We’re trying to plan a week long trip for Norway in September, but we have some financial difficulties we need to take care of first. I’m hoping to get a good chunk of it (if not all of it) taken care of by the end of February.

We’re going for Pixarfest in Disneyland, followed by Universal Hollywood, followed by another Hollywood-area day, and ending back at Disneyland for D23.

Congratulations man, I wish you and your wife the best in life. Where at in California are you guys planning on visiting?

One of our nights we’re going to a place that lets you play board games in private tents indoors. We have a ton of 2+ player games we like to play together at home so it’s the perfect date night. Is very private so I feel it’s the best place because everywhere else we’re going for the trip has a lot of people around.

Congrats big guy, what's your proposal plan?

lol yeah, Nora being an absolute QT was also a selling point for me too. But I also agree that it was very mid. This game plus Diofield Chronicles suffered from that shit stain Flopspoken taking the lions share of SEs resources.

I bought it on discount before I even had a PS5. Not a bad game but not great either. I mainly bought it because I think the valkyrie was pretty cute tbh

The Flood / AMA I’m proposing to my GF next month
« on: July 17, 2024, 10:05:20 AM »
One of my major life goals was to be married by 30. I gave myself an extra year because of Covid shutting the world down. Although we probably won’t be financially ready for a wedding by next August, she’s been dropping not-so subtle hints at me and I could at least say I’m engaged before 30.

We’ve only been dating for a year, but next month on our California trip we have a date night planned for the anniversary of us knowing each other for four years.

Please wish me luck.  :)

Chances of another happening before November? 2024 is already way better than 2020 & 2022.

Yeah, I don’t want to say he just won the election but he got the perfect galvanizing force now. Meanwhile Biden literally doesn’t even remember who’s standing next to him lol

The Flood / Re: Biden won the debate
« on: July 04, 2024, 07:15:04 PM »
Only read up to this point in the thread. The debate mattered because realistically Biden has been this way his entire four years, people intentionally forget he was already somewhat like this during their last debates four years ago because they hated Trump so much. Everyone was pretending and lying to themselves about Biden’s age and if he is physically/mentally fit to continue and this debate showed them what they’ve been denying.

Biden lost the debate, since he was looking physically weak, and some media outlets got something to write about. But does the debate matter that much for this election? They would matter if majority of voters wouldn't have decided who to vote for, but as far as I am concerned everyone already have decided who they will be voting for and those debates just serve as some confirmation on each candidates position and what each candidate will do if they become a president. I don't think that these debates matter much for election.

Overall debates were depressing to watch because both candidates are old, and, well, one candidate seems to be wise and speaking with facts, with some defined position, yet physically weak and speech problems (while they aren't anything new, aren't helping), while other candidate energetic, proactive, yet when you will start analyzing what he said and start fact checking, well, the things don't match. Either way, seems like there's lack of younger people who would be passionate enough about politics that would have big public support to be a valid candidates for a president.

If you see XII TZA on sale go for that one next. It’s my personal favorite and trying to 100% will easily put you past the 100 hr mark. I’ve had three different 100 hr save files and I still see things I haven’t seen before on that game.

Went to USA Gundam Store in Daytona Beach, small shop floor and the guy at the register was a bit impersonal/unfriendly but they it was still a super cool shop dedicated to Gunpla and they operate out of their warehouse. If there’s something in stock on their site and you don’t see it, they’ll pull it for you and leave it at the register.

I also got kits for Christmas that aren’t in the picture:
SD Unicorn Gundam
MG Char Zaku II
MG RX-78 3.0

Me and my girlfriend have been looking for a house to rent since her lease is up at the end of February and moving in together is the next logical step. Because it’s still a few months out we’re not getting a whole lot of communication back when we send a request for a tour.

Luckily we have a backup apartment plan if we can’t find a house in time.

Big oof, sounds like the heads on top know they're in a sink or swim scenario and that Sony is literally not any better than Microsoft when it comes killing off developers they acquire.

I'm not sure if you'd like Shin Godzilla. The characters are very quirky and the actors really lean into it, but it also has some very weird cinematography and of course I remember all the comments on how "ugly" Godzilla was in it. Although it does do a great job of being an allegory for the Fukushima Disaster more than an atomic weapon, and there's a looming fear of another bomb being dropped in the story that hangs over the heads of the characters if they can't solve the mystery. I also feel the atomic breathe scene in Shin was better than it was in Minus One.

Godzilla Minus One: Never got around to watching Shin Godzilla (seemed weird to me), so I really appreciated a grounded Godzilla story, closer to the original. The WWII setting was a nice touch to retain the allegory. Wasn’t quite a slam dunk for me. I feel like I have trouble with Japanese media, such as anime. Some of the overacting got a bit goofy, especially with people in the audience laughing. 7/10

The Flood / The 2023 Box Office
« on: December 04, 2023, 10:57:46 AM »
With the end of the year around the corner, and all big releases (both actual and assumed) having been released, I wanted to look back at what I saw theatrically and how I felt about how they performed and why. And I would like to see what you all felt about these same movies. Unfortunately I never got to see either Barbie or Oppenheimer but I'm glad they both performed successfully and that the year in whole wasn't made up of just laughing stock financial flops. I'm most certainly enjoying The Marvels falling flat on its face.

I will say though that my views on some of the films I saw may have been more softer than I normally would have been considering I went with my GF to see them and she loved them. Either that or I have become less scornful overall but I doubt that is the case.

Godzilla Minus One: I hate to say it, but Yamazaki made a far more compelling and visually impressive film than Anno did with Shin. The character story felt like it complimented Godzilla well instead of just butting heads with Goji like the Legendary films tend to do. With its miniscule budget and performing well financially, this was a huge wake up call to the West with their money-laundering levels of wasteful spending.  10/10

Wish: This movie was bad. Not incredibly bad, or massively bad, just generically bad which I think is worse. The art style was absolutely beautiful...and that's about all I can really say it had going for it. The little Easter Egg references were nice I guess, but I felt they were more put in by committee demand than put in for genuine artistic expression (and on that note, Doc is a really obvious and out of place director self-insert) and it kind of taints the whole point. For a movie that's supposed to celebrate the company's 100th, this is embarrassing. 2/10

Elemental: Ironically, Elemental was a far more sincere and enjoyable film despite it initially being advertised to me as generic Pixar slop. The social commentary and themes actually felt genuine and despite constantly looming over the runtime, it didn't detract from the comedy or other light-hearted moments in the story. It wasn't very visually impressive though and it was kind of generic, but at least it felt like what I said before: sincere/genuine. 8/10

The Little Mermaid: I didn't have an interest in going to see it and I was basically dragged to the theaters because I dragged her to the next movie. I don't care enough about it to review. ?/10 (probably very low)

Shin Kamen Rider: Tokusatsu Kino. I want to give this movie a perfect 10/10 but it suffers from Anno's usual problem of live-action with awkward shots/angles. His style works very well in Anime but it transfers very poorly to live-action. He somehow made it work with Shin Godzilla and it "kind of" worked here, but there were still scenes and entire sequences that suffered cause of it. 9/10

Shin Ultraman: Another movie I wanted to give a perfect score to, but surprisingly this one suffers even more from Anno-syndrome despite not even being directed by him. The entire pacing of the movie is awkward jarring and the movie straight up feels like its ending twice before the actual climax. The story was good, but it feels rushed and that along with the quirky directing choices, I struggled to get behind it. 7/10 (but it should realistically be 6/10)

the Haunted Mansion: I completely forgot this movie existed and that I went to go see it. It definitely felt more genuine to the ride than Eddie Murphy's version, I feel both are trying to accomplish different things with the 2023 version trying to be more faithful while the original trying to be a better film (which I think it is), the story for this one just felt kind of lost until halfway through when the Hatbox Ghost is revealed. But the fact that I straight up forgot I even saw the movie doesn't bode well for how others might feel about the movie. 6/10

The Super Mario Bros. Movie: I know there was a lot of back and forth about this movie leading up to its release. And as someone who has a pretty negative bias towards Nintendo (I just bought an OLED Switch a month ago) I must admit this was a pretty enjoyable movie. The story was simple/generic but not eye-rolling which might seem like a subpar thing to say but I do realize this is a movie for kids first and foremost; the visuals were surprisingly really good, and the performance from the actors were top notch. I don't want to call this movie perfect, I know its a kid's movie but there isn't much for adults to latch onto unless your one of those Gen X Nintendrones who don't believe other video game companies outside of Nintendo exists. But I just can't find anything truly bad yo say about it. 9/10

How was the year for you all at the movies?

I can't stomach Nu-Bungie but I can see logic in this decision. Why keep a feature around that isn't being used when resources could be allocated to something that will be?

The Flood / Re: When you upset your GF on your birthday
« on: October 01, 2023, 08:42:49 PM »
I believe I have recovered enough to post about all the happenings that have occurred (both self-inflicted and poor bad luck) that brought me to where I am now. The only issue is...there's a lot of backstory/context/nuance so I'll keep it brief and fill in the gaps if anyone is interested.

PART 1:
Spoiler
>Get promoted to go into leadership (management) at work
>Waiting in a pool of candidates to get called for a leadership spot to open up to go in
>Decide I don't want it anymore because I love my current job (coordinator) and my current location (Magic Kingdom)
>A colossal amount of pressure is then put on me to stay in the pool and say yes to whatever I'm given even if I don't want it anymore
>Peers I had a stress working relationship with put further pressure on me to say yes to any location and leave
>Get called to go to a resort on the other side of property
>I don't even stay a week before I give up and ask to go back to my old job/location
>Everything in the systems still haven't updated that I was a manager yet so it should be easy to just slide me back in
>The Union throws me under the bus because I left their hourly union role for a salaried non-union one and tells me to fuck off
>Stuck in a job I hate for another two weeks with a boss who can't stomach looking at me until casting calls me to help me get out of my situation
>I tell them I'll take whatever is the quickest hourly role open just to get the fuck out of where I'm at
>Ending up getting a full time Custodial position at Epcot
>Literally a fucking Disney Janny
>Stuck in the job for three months BUT I still have Merchandise training so I'm able to give away my custodial shifts and pick up Merchandise
>I also still have the ability to interview for my old coordinator job anywhere I want
>Peers who hated my guts back in Magic Kingdom do everything they can to ruin my reputation with my former leaders and cast I worked with
>My old location had two open coordinator spots and I never got called for an interview (despite it being required by Union contract to call anyone on their interest list which I definitely was) because of their meddling
>Want to get out of Custodial so I put in part time transfers back in Merchandise
>The Art Festival at Epcot was coming up so I got pulled to go to there
>Some of my old leaders from when I worked at Epcot during Covid got the email that I was transferring to them and called casting begging to have me come sooner
>I got that information from a friend of mine who was currently on the team so at least I knew I still had a positive network somewhere in the company
>Started working with them February of this year

PART 2:
Spoiler
>Having an okay time adjusting to my new location
>Leaders here love me, the coordinators love me, my fellow cast seem to be receptive towards me
>My friend on the team I have a complicated relationship with but she tells me she's happy to see me again and is glad I came to them
>Everyone also pretty much knows my entire backstory but they aren't judgmental about it at all

PART 2.5:
Spoiler
>Roommate lost his job and has been posting concerning stuff all over Facebook
>He slowly becomes more and more unhinged and is passive aggressive towards me and our other roommate
>He keeps saying he's being stalked but wont say who
>He keeps saying he's being harassed but he goes to wander around the apartment complex
>He says there's a fucking cult after him
>I have screencaps of his FB posts, I'm not making this shit up
>Finally learn that he's been doing meth and he's going insane
>Call up a close friend and he helps me move in one day back into my mom's place
>Currently living in her rec room with my bed on the floor
>Neither me nor or other roommate wanted an eviction on our record so we agreed to split the lease between the two of us since he can't pay anything and we couldn't break the lease because he would have to agree to it
>Between his portion of the rent we had to pay, all the new furniture I had to buy because of my emergency exit, and him trashing the apartment when the lease ended, he basically stole $3000+ from me and $2000+ from the other roommate.

PART 3:
Spoiler
>Friend I work with has been very affectionate with me
>She finally comes clean and tells me she's liked me for a long time
>I kind of did too before but I kept my distance because of previous situations
>Furthermore she's trying to get full time coordinator at Festivals (what I had in Magic Kingdom)
>She doesn't want anything to happen that could risk her not being considered
>We agree to not act on anything until I transfer out to a coordinator job somewhere else
>I didn't put Festivals on my interest list because it was very much her home and I've kind of been treating it as a temporary thing until I figure out where to go from here
>All I knew was I just wanted my old job back, and in one of the four parks
>Our agreement lasted....a whole week and we started dating anyways
>I've been interviewing for coordinator but don't get any offers
>I interviewed with my old location in Magic Kingdom and my leaders (who once gave me support for leadership and told me I was personally carrying the team on my own) gave me laughably dishonest feedback and basically made it clear they don't want me back
>GF says to try for the Countries on the East side of Epcot, our leaders run that operation along with the Festival operation but they're one leadership team in charge of two separate operations
>GF specifically does not want me in Festivals because if there's an open spot, she wants it and she doesn't want us working that close together because she's afraid it would ruin our relationship
>I interview for East with two of my leaders, but....they don't say anything to me afterwards so I assume I'm not only not considered but I did some kind of Faux Pas by putting my name on the list in the first place
>My GF is pulled into a meeting and specifically told to put her name on the interest list for East and they they really want her on that side working in the Countries with the international cast.
>The leaders up until this point have no idea we're dating
>GF does what's she's told because she wants the job even if it means leaving Festivals where she loves working
>One day GF is working with one of the leaders that interviewed me and asked her is she's been studying interview questions, GF says no
>"Oh you know who you should talk to? Ian. We interviewed him last week and he was the best interviewee we ever had. We didn't choose him because we are going to desperately try and get him coordinator on the Festivals side."
>GF is completely speechless, because she knew I was a little upset that I never got feedback for how my interview went.
>She thinks about it for a bit but then calls me, tells me what happens, and then says she wants me to put in for Festivals.
>I do what my better half tells me to.
>We both interview for coordinator on the same day. She interviews for East, and I interview for Festivals.
>We both get it, and now that I'm full time again, we're starting to plan to move in together when her lease ends in February.

I start next Sunday, she's staying in Festivals until I'm fully trained and then she transfers to the East side the following week. Hopefully this is the end to an entire 12 months of horrible situations.

Current shelf as of 9/14/23. I have all 12 volumes of The Origin on the shelf above this one along with the Unicorn BD box AND both Japanese Bluray Boxes for Turn A Gundam.

Spoiler

As for my entire kit collection, it's kind of all over the place....

Spoiler

The MG Hi-Nu Ver Ka. & the MG Astray Blue Frame aren't mine. They're gifts for my brother that I haven't shipped off yet. The MG Turn A and the HG Avalanche are in the box broken beyond repair. MG Freedom 2.0 is on the top shelf of my desk but I'm thinking about moving him because although the stand is sturdy, he visibly shakes a lot from any movement on the desk (he's shaking right now as I'm typing lol).

HG Tristar, Red Comet, & the Gouf are all on the shelf with the RG Mark 06. The other Mark 06 is in the box because I can't stand to look at that hideous abomination. The RG GP01 is will probably remain unfinished because every time I try to restart it I get frustrated and put it away immediately.

The bottom left four are....missing. AWOL. Ghosts. They're not in their boxes and I have searched through every box of old crap that I own in this house and I can't find them anywhere and I'm pissed. I'm also missing the entire box (and kit) of my HG Sazabi. I can only assume that I accidentally left them in the old house I lived in before I moved into the apartment and they got thrown out by the person who took the house over. But the Thunderbolt Zaku & HG Unicorn never left my Mom's house so I have no idea what happened to those.

I bought the HG Aerial kit from Target for like $15, it's pretty good (I'm one of the few that actually liked TWFM) and I put together the Gouf finally. As for kits I still have left to build, I have the MG Strike Noir and the HG Narrative Phenex. Technically the RG Unicorn Perfectibility too but I'm not actually going to build that one because it's such a collectors item already.

I also ordered the RG Hi-Nu off USA Gundam store and it shipped within a few hours. Hopefully it comes in soon since I live only a few hours from Daytona Beach where they're located.

Serious / Re: What should be done about the rising cost of housing?
« on: August 13, 2023, 08:00:37 AM »
Both are happening in Florida but all this is doing is raising the prices even further.

With the first point we end up getting a lot of remote workers who used to live in high earning locations like NY and Cali but they're keeping their large wages so they're brining the average income up beyond what workers in the area really get paid, causing rental owners to charge far beyond what most people here can afford to pay because the only people who were able to afford these places to begin with were those remote tech workers.

With the second point, all new apartments being built in the area are being labeled "luxury apartments" and thus still charge well above what would be considered a fair rate because the label is an excuse to them not having to build and charge for a basic minimal living.

1) Work-from-home mandate. So people can buy places in remote towns.
2) Rapid construction of massive apartment blocks, so people have a place to live in now and drop the rent price down.
