It's been common knowledge for centuries now that Dragonball is the only good anime, but Attack on Titan has recently become verified fresh too.
Show's good. Animation is some of the best I've seen, story is engaging, and the show has next to no annoying anime tropes. Would recommend. 9

I think they both just operate differently. Russia lacks money so it's more interested in just destabilizing other countries by increasing divides, promoting populism, playing on controversial topics, manipulating voters and spreading fake news. It's why it loves supporting nationalists and thrives on Brexit and Trump - because these things weaken the West. On the other hand, China focuses more on keeping a tight grip on its own people, controlling the flow of (negative) information and leveraging its interests through trade and economic pressure. It's got plenty of money because of how much control it exerts over its businesses and how crucial the country is to just about every single industry and technology in the world, so it can buy itself into Western companies and use that influence to steer the narrative and protect its authoritarianism. I wouldn't necessarily say one is a greater threat than the other but it's both pretty concerning.

Serious / Re: Gun control works« on: September 30, 2019, 01:34:14 PM »yeah and then we can start banning butter knives and requiring ID to buy spoonsThat's a pretty big slippery slope. The only place I can think of that has laws anything like that is the UK which has a long reputation of being an overbearing "nanny state" for many reasons unrelated to guns. There's no reason why stricter gun control would ever result in something similar in the US (or any other country for that matter). 19

Looks like Donohue is publishing another study shortly that found more evidence that the previous AWB had a positive impact on mass shooting deaths and frequency. Comes at a good (or bad) time depending on how you look at it.

Serious / Re: Gun control works« on: September 27, 2019, 07:45:11 PM »Who’s advocating for it? Feinstein has been DESPERATE to reinstate her ban for literal decades, even before there was a hysteria on shootings. News reports are saying even Democrats aren’t really supporting it, if Feinstein is in charge I can see why.Feinstein's the bill's main sponsor, yeah.OwO what's this, a new assault weapons ban in Congress? Probably won't amount to anything though. 21

The Flood / Re: The Definitive Guide to Making Anime Tolerable« on: September 17, 2019, 04:42:29 PM »I don't understand how that's supposed to work. Are you telling me that if an anime comes out with the title:I forgot what step we're at, so I'm calling this step 6:But it's not the title, it's English translation of the title Gundam Wing UltimateWar Ep.XII.03: Bleed/Blast GX PrismXomega -ORDER- [Rebirth]!!! the actual and literal Japanese title might just be "Gundam Wing Ultimate Season 3"? Because I don't see how that could be the case. These naming conventions obviously aren't a Western thing so even if that's what they're translated to it's definitely still inspired / mandated by the Japanese creators for one reason or another. I'm also seeing plenty of really long Japanese titles on Google with pretty ridiculous literal meanings, so this seems like it's more than just some translation thing. 23
The Flood / Re: The Definitive Guide to Making Anime Tolerable« on: September 17, 2019, 04:11:44 PM »
I forgot what step we're at, so I'm calling this step 6:
Don't give your anime a bad title. If the title has something like a . or / or ZERO or GX or @ or & or random French words or words just stitched togher or whatever, just ditch it. Same goes for titles with just too many buzzwords or words altogether. This applies to all anime things, including manga and video games or other spinoffs. Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX: Believe in Justice and Hold a Determination to Fist. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! Keijo!!!!!!!! Ore no Nounai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Comedy wo Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo Just don't ever do this. 24
Serious / Re: Good god what a fucking nightmare of an era« on: September 17, 2019, 07:14:26 AM »Fair enough, but that's assuming that this actually led to any sort of relief. It's just as likely that someone posting a rant like this walks away feeling even more vindicated in their intolerance, more hostile towards "the other" (in this case, the fabled far leftist SJW PC libtard NPC soy cucks), and more angered by how everyone else is too stupid/brainwashed/incapable of coming to terms with "the truth" (in their eyes) that they just dropped. Venting can definitely help in some cases but I'm far from convinced that a rage fueled rant about how the other side is so fucking disgusting and vile that you fucking fear getting thrown in jail for saying the wrong fucking thing because stupid NPCs and leftists are gearing up for another fucking civil war is something that calms you down and makes you feel less aggressive towards those who disagree.I think you're selling catharsis short. It can be the difference between someone managing to cope with their emotions or snapping and doing real harm. It's not supposed to be about coming to a realization of anything, it's just a release of tension.it's catharsis devoid of meaning, a hollow feeling that will only need to revamped once he realizes that his moment of self-actualization was inepiphanous. Then he'll just make another thread and the cycle will continue at the reader's expense.at that point, why even make a thread, he's obviously not here to discuss his beliefs, this is a political board not a political blogVenting is cathartic. Besides, whether or not you resort to physical violence is a pretty extreme standard for this being a good thing. Rant away if it makes you feel better, but if you decide not to listen to people who shed light on clear misunderstandings and mistakes you're making, then the only thing you get out of it is feeling more entrenched in your beliefs and intolerance. Better than violence, sure, but obviously pretty shitty either way. 25
Serious / Re: Good god what a fucking nightmare of an era« on: September 15, 2019, 07:29:37 PM »Look fam, sorry but, you're completely politically ignorant. The worst part is just the attitude he has going into this. "I'm not here to argue or debate. Save your rebuttals. At this point, facts don't mean much. It doesn't matter if what I say is entirely false, I don't care about your responses. Don't bother refuting or correcting anything because I just don't give a shit about what's accurate or correct. My feelings matter more than the truth and I would rather knowingly repeat things proven to be false than to learn and grow as a person." I really don't understand how you got to this point Deci but it's really problematic and doesn't make much sense. 26

Never even heard of Violet Evergarden before. If it's not something I might have occasionally watched as kid (like Dragonball or Yugioh) then it's a safe bet to say I haven't seen it. What's it about?

Back home at last. I spent some time in the UK and Germany so haven't been around and didn't get to watch anything else. More anime watching soon, probably.

The Flood / Re: Attention British people« on: September 12, 2019, 07:00:46 AM »Attention all British people: Flee is in great danger and he needs your help to wipe out the Brexiters out of United Kingdom, but to do this he needs an equipment for quality streaming and a few Twitch subscribers. To help him, all he needs is your credit card number, the three digits on the back, and the expiration month and year. But, you gotta be quick, so Flee can destroy Brexiters with FACTS and LOGIC!Social security number doesn't hurt either, just saying. 30
The Flood / Re: Attention British people« on: September 12, 2019, 06:56:43 AM »Congrats on making it big in the streaming world! Thanks man, I got pretty lucky last year. With the new Quake game being out, I hosted my own amateur tournament for hitting 100 followers on Twitch. There were only like a dozen sign-ups but I (jokingly) did some commentary for the matches that I spectated on stream. People seemed to really like it and suggested I looked into doing some other tournaments as well so I ended up covering other small cups by the Quake subreddit and whatnot. Before too long I was casting pro level players in unofficial tournaments and somehow caught the attention of the community / talent managers over at id / Bethesda who really liked me as a caster and analyst. In the past 8 months, they've flown me out to Romania, Italy, Sweden and the UK to cover Dreamhack, PGL, ESL and FaceIT tournaments. Wouldn't really say I made it "big" yet on my own stream (still not a Twitch Partner), but I'm glad I can do this as a hobby on the side (and make a good amount of money too). I got offers from much bigger FPS titles as well and was asked to move to a different country to cover a full 6 month league but things didn't work out since I still have my PhD that I want to get over with first. |
