Gaming / Re: PSN Under Attack Again
« on: August 24, 2014, 07:56:12 PM »
Bit of a console war going on in here.
I'll just leave this here.

Xbox is losing exclusives now though; Titanfall was timed, then Ryse and Deadrising are coming to PC aswell.
Obvious problem here is that the list both completely neglects console exclusive indie / arcade games, yet goes out of its way to list heaps of unknown and rather poor PC indie titles that very little people care about.

And in regards to your final remark, it also goes the other way around. Games that used to be PC exclusives and are listed as such in your post like Warframe and DayZ are coming to console too.

A little less bias would help everyone in this gaming platform war.

Shame, although I am glad that it isn't David who passed away.

That sounded a lot more morbid than intended.

I never said they get paid minimum wage, just something around what they pay generic military personnel.
I never said anything about minimum wage either. Just letting you know that many high paying jobs are those that come with great responsibilities and pressure. A politician is a public figure with a significant task. They're under constant watch and have to govern a country while reconciling conflicting interests and ideals. It's not an easy job, especially when taking into account that no matter what they say or do, there will always be thousands of people that will disagree with them and slander them because of it. You're not just signing up to do a service to your country, you're signing up for a job that will have you hated by thousands no matter what you do. A job that makes you work harder than most and that constantly puts you in the spotlight where almost every move you make or thing you say is watched, and where any misstep could very well mean the end of your entire carreer.

No matter how you look at it, it's not an easy job. And although the exuberant wages some politicians make are excessive, I do believe they should be paid accordingly.

I disagree.
In that case, you came into office knowing what you were getting yourself into. You are doing a service to your country. As a perk while in office, provide free housing maybe. That's it.
Knowing what you're getting yourself into really isn't a valid argument. A high risk brain surgeon knew just the same that his job would bring pressure, hard work and great responsibilities. Does simply knowing that and "doing the people/country a service" mean they don't have a right to a higher pay than a janitor?

I have to strain my eyes to see things in split-screen.
Now, if most games did it like Halo 2, where the split is vertical instead of horizontal,
it would be WAY better.

#myopinion
Most games do from my experience. I rarely come across games that have vertical splitscreen rather than horizontal or don't allow you to change it.

Looks pretty good, although reinserting the magazine seems a little off. I think it would look better if it would be reloaded in multiple motions (move magazine up - change angle - insert it) than it just flawlessly latching on like this.

Unfortunately voter ignorance just isn't something that can be fixed though.
...which reminds me.

-People in positions of political power should only be paid as much as people serving in the military and or/just a normal living wage.

My reasoning?
You're supposed to be doing a service to the country. That's how is used to be, and that's how it should be.

Power corrupts.
People in political positions cannot be trusted in they're in control of their own salaries.
One could argue that the pressure and responsibilities that come with the job function of politicians warrant the above average wages.

Serious / Re: Why do you all hate on police officers?
« on: August 23, 2014, 10:18:37 PM »
I wouldn't know about American cops. Despite all that ever gets on the media is talk of abusive cops and excessive use of force, I'm still inclined to keep an open mind and look at both sides of the story before judging.

Local cops however, I've never had a bad experience with. The few times I've interacted with them went very smoothly and the two cops I know privately (an uncle and neighbor) are both great people that take their job very seriously and pride themselves on being the best policemen they can be.

The Flood / Re: US Theaters
« on: August 23, 2014, 10:09:50 PM »
So because you went to just 3 or 4 theaters in the US, that means that those peoples' behaviors were the norms? I don't know what state you were in when you went to go see those movies, but it sure as hell was not Washington. Every movie I went to go see at a theater, everyone was respectful by just whispering and turning off their phones. The only times I have ever heard people talking loud was before the movie started and after it ended. Literally nothing you said about the theaters you went to ever happened in the ones I've been at, and I've been to quite a few.

God your constant generalizing of America really pisses me the fuck off.
Do I really have to put "from my experience", "in my opinion", "from what I have seen" and "applying only to the Americans I have met" before every single sentence for you not to be a retard and go nitpicking and bitching about everything, all while assuming I'm talking about every single American rather than the ones I've met?

That being said, it looks like I've either just been to some pretty loud theaters, or that American moviegoers are just culturally louder than their European counterparts. I'm guessing it's a little bit of both.

I can see my edit was to late, but i'll explain it anyway, i can see where your coming from, i do get annoyed when people do shit like this, but you gotta keep in mind that the US is not the only one in the country to act like this, besides people do this to show how they're enjoying it, i may be an American but i don't to shit like jump around in the movie and start cheering.
I realize that, it's just something that struck me as different. I've been to theaters in different countries and the US is the only one where I've gotten regularly annoyed by some of the people around me. Sure, I've been to movies where there were a few people being loud, but it just seems a lot more acceptable in the US than anywhere else I've been. That is from my experience at least.

The Flood / Re: US Theaters
« on: August 23, 2014, 07:02:39 PM »
So your saying we americans can't enjoy things like this, lol.
Not at all, I'm just wondering about the cultural difference. People enjoy movies in theaters where I live just the same while having an equally good time. I'm just slightly baffled by how loud people get during movies in the US, it seems pretty disrespectul to the people around you.

I'm not saying this is inheritently bad, it's just very different from where I'm from. In Belgium, people usually enjoy movies in mostly silence, whereas in the US a movie seems more like a sports game.

Anti Gun is a problem in Belgium?
Oh no, not at all. We have fairly strict gun regulations that requires people to have a valid reason, background check and training before they can obtain a firearm. Furthermore, public carry is out of the question for anone who doesn't exercise a profession that requires one. I'm personally pleased with these regulations, as I don't believe your everyday person should be allowed to carry a gun around in public. Instead of the American system of "everyone can carry a gun around unless there's a very good reason to deny them one", I feel like "no one can carry a gun in public unless there's a good reason for it" is much more sensible.

I'm talking about online interactions or some people I've talked to during my numerous visits to the US.

The Flood / US Theaters
« on: August 23, 2014, 06:49:37 PM »
Now that I've gone to a handful of movies in US theaters, I figured that I am qualified to make this thread and ask a very important question as a direct result from yet another poor roleplay ("I am groot", ho ho 2funny4me).

Why are Americans so loud during movies? I thought that the Americlap thing was nothing but a petty joke at first, but this is actually true. People cheering and clapping throughout the movie making so much noise that you actually miss parts of what's being said. There's not much of a point of showing 3 PSA messages at the start telling people to turn of their mobile phones when there's people making noise throughout the entire movie anyways.

It also seems that a lot of American moviegoers are very easily entertained. I recently saw Guardians of the Galaxy (watchable movie if you don't put much thought into it and ignore how predictable and cliché it really is, but that's just Marvel movies for ya) and this scene had people go wild. Like, not just a few drunk guys finding it a little too funny, but easily half the audience was laughing their asses off as if it was the single most hilarious thing to ever grace this world while I was sitting there in disbelief.

Explain this behavior, for it is very different from the typical theater experience in Europe.

Let's see.

Anti gun.
Pro secularism.
Pro EU and UN, to some extent.
Pro an extensive catalogus of basic human rights.
Not that big of a fan of the US.

I'll add more if I think of some.

I agree, economists should probably be listened to more
Problem is, which economists should be listened to more? Economics isn't an exact science and you'll find that a lot of highly educated and intelligent economists still disagree on many of today's issues.

Whatever. The real problem here is the fucking anime spam.

Take it to PMs. We don't want to scroll through entire pages of your completely off topic discussion.
I more or less agree with Challenger. People can post whatever they want, but seeing threads taken over by nothing but constant spam of anime gifs does get tedious.

Glad to have you back. I never liked this Reciffo guy anyways and I knew he'd fall for my ruse and get himself killed by the "advice" I gave him.
