The Flood / How have you changed since Sep7 began?
« on: May 09, 2021, 06:12:03 AM »
Sep7 is nearing its 7-year anniversary. Many of us have experienced significant life changes since this site began.

I was 16 when this site started, and things have changed for me in many ways since then: enough that I don't feel like listing all of them right now. Some of the major points worth noting:

- I graduated high school in 2016, and am about to receive my bachelor's degree in a couple months

- I've moved residences three times since 2017, although I've remained in the north Texas area.

- I am much healthier than I used to be. From early 2018 through early to mid 2019 I lost about 60lb (200lb to 140lb).

here's me in 2017

The Flood / DIEGO BRANDO (& samus)
« on: January 04, 2021, 06:56:06 PM »
recently picked up a figure of my favorite misanthropic jockey.
rawr :3
the scaling between him and my other 1/12 figures is reasonably accurate, which is nice. Means I can display him next to them.
The coloring is based on one of the volume covers rather than how he's depicted in the colorized manga.
All in all I'm pretty satisfied with the figure. Diego is my favorite character from SBR, and one of my favorites from the whole series, so I figured I should pick him up.

The Flood / Do you live alone?
« on: July 14, 2020, 05:43:16 PM »
Do you live independently? Do you live on a Campus? Do you live with family? With Roommates? Are you friends with your Roommate(s)?

I live with my mother, as I have stopped living at the dorm because of expenses. Plus, it looks like all my classes next semester will be online anyway.

Gaming / Brother and I bought a Wii U
« on: July 14, 2020, 03:53:21 PM »
My little brother found a great listing on eBay: $115 + shipping for a 32gb Wii U with Gamepad and Pro Controller. It gets here anywhere between the 16th and 18th. My brother paid for most of it, I just covered shipping.

My brother wanted it for Wind Waker HD. I don't know why, he was playing my copy of WW on the Wii and imo the original still looks fine. I'm interested in Twilight Princess HD; I've never beaten it, and while we have the original I'd rather just play the HD version so I don't have to bother with motion controls.

Aside from that, we want to pick up OoT and Majora's Mask; we have them on Wii and 3DS, but again the Wii version is 480p and as I understand it the 3D versions of the games aren't as good as the originals. We're also going to get Super Mario 64 and M&L: Partners in Time

The Flood / Graphic Tees
« on: June 09, 2020, 01:47:06 AM »
yay or nay?

personally I think it depends. Some graphic tees can be pretty cringe, especially if they're just a product logo or something else uninspired, like a superhero logo or something.

If the T-shirt has a nice design, however, they can be cool. I have a Rocket League T-shirt I picked up at the 2019 World Championship, and I think it looks pretty cool.

I also think it depends on where you wear them.

What are your thoughts? Post examples of good and bad graphic tees.

The Flood / I started watching the Mobile Suit Gundam series
« on: January 14, 2020, 08:55:04 AM »
I'm not really into mecha, but I started watching the Mobile Suit Gundam (Universal Century) series with a friend recently, and have found it surprisingly enjoyable. The story and characters of the various series have been enough to overcome my general lack of interest in mecha.

So far I've watched:

  • Mobile Suit Gundam
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: War in The Pocket (my favorite thus far)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt (season 1)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin

I've recently started watching Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam as well.

I'm impressed that the series partly responsible for popularizing people fighting  wars with giant robot suits has such strong anti-war themes. War in The Pocket was especially poignant. I enjoyed it enough to buy a model of the Zaku-II FZ featured in this series, I'll post pictures when I'm done building it. The Zaku and a couple other Zeon mobile suits are really the only ones that I find visually interesting enough to consider buying as models. I want to get Char's Zaku-II and maybe a couple other variants in the future.

The Flood / I might be studying abroad next summer
« on: October 16, 2019, 10:09:48 PM »
My school is hosting a study abroad program in the Black Forest in Germany. The program is a month long, and upon completion I'd receive credit for Intermediate German 1 & 2, which would enable me to attain a minor in German by the time I graduate.

Ordinarily I wouldn't consider this financially feasible, but the university is offering guaranteed scholarships that substantially reduce the cost, plus any further scholarships received from other institutions.

Only problem is, unless 15 people sign up we aren't going, which is an issue that happened last year.

A 3d effects artist has single-handedly been creating an awesome Warhammer 40k short film titled "Astartes."

Regardless of whether or not you like 40k, I'd encourage everyone to check it out, as it is incredibly well made. As of episode 5, the whole series is around 11 minutes in length.

The Flood / I got a cool thing
« on: April 29, 2019, 01:25:37 PM »
After playing some Super Metroid and remembering how much fun the series is, I caved and snagged this neat thing

It's been out of production for a bit, and I didn't want to pay too high a price, so I got a used one from a Japanese vendor on eBay. Unfortunately immediately after I bought it, I saw a listing from a vendor for a used figure in great condition that was $6 less, and was in the US, meaning I would get it in a week versus over a month. My fault for not looking around enough. Hopefully the one I bought is in good condition like the vendor says.

The Flood / Kill Team
« on: July 15, 2018, 06:08:55 PM »
This looks really cool; it's neat that they're making Kill Team a standalone game rather than it just being an expansion or something.

It looks a lot more manageable to play, paint, and build for too. Each side consists of five to ten models depending on the faction in question. This is a lot more manageable in terms of expense and time, as it's a lot easier to paint five or ten dudes compared to fifty for standard 40k.

The box set looks pretty neat.

These past few months I've been trying to get my brother into 40k so we have something to do together. I bought the recent Forgebane box set for us to play with, as he likes Necrons and I already had a moderately sized force of Adeptus Mechanicus dudes, and 8th edition is a lot easier to play than previous editions.

Still, I found it a bit difficult to get started because we didn't have any terrain (playing on a flat surface with no cover or buildings of any kind is boring), and it's a lot of work to build and paint even the small force of Necrons and Skitarii that came with Forgebane.

This looks like it solves a lot of those issues given the small scale and the inclusion of a game board and some terrain in the box set.

The Flood / The Horus Heresy is dying
« on: May 18, 2018, 02:41:20 PM »
The dude who did most of the work at Forge World died, and the production of their new books has slowed significantly.
In addition, loads of their kits have been discontinued, including the Legion upgrade kits and Mk. II Crusade armor.

It's a shame, I loved how The Horus Heresy had this almost historical game thing going, and the amount of detail that went into things like the army books.
