If you're an atheist, there's determinism.
If you're not an atheist, you're, you know. Wrong.
What about "God's plan"? Wouldn't that imply that events are set in stone to some extent
Well, sure, if one believes in that sort of thing. By "wrong," I'm referring to religion as a sort of catch-22: If you believe you have free will and are religious, you're wrong. If you believe in determinism and are religious... I mean, you're right about determinism, but the religious angle taints it, so it's still wrong. (If you don't know how to divide polynomials, but you somehow got the correct answer anyway... you still don't know how to divide polynomials. So, I mean, what good does that do you?) And in my experience, most people who claim to be religious also seem to think that their god does indeed give them free will (even though he apparently has a "plan"--yep, Christianity is riddled with contradictions. Who knew?) So yeah, either way, everyone's gonna have their own interpretations of their religion-- but it doesn't matter, because religion is bullshit. But that is a good point to bring up.

lmao, my life is wretchedly dreary as it is already, and now Verbatim gives me not just an F, but and F-
Why the minus sign? Just because? because not only do you prefer cash's version
you had to go the extra mile and imply that trent reznor sounds like a "little bitch" when he sings

Because to me, they're the same thing.

No... I'm pretty sure I grew out of it. I would still watch the show when it would come on but I got rid of my cards and shit.
I wasn't "pressured" either. A lot of people that were my age continued to play and collect Pokemon cars all the way up throughout high school.
So they're just manchildren, right. 'Cause they didn't grow out of it yet. I mean, that's how stupid it is to say shit like that, you realize.

Be honest here, would you care if the same thing had happened with Korra and a male character? Would you be calling it bad writing or shoehorning of an unnecessary romance either way? yes and no yes, because romances are almost always shoehorned and unnecessary no, because we're living in this time where everyone is trying to show you how progressive they are the tv show doesn't exist in a vacuum the creators are very obviously trying to make a statement--as well-intentioned as it is

Life isn't worthless by any means - we find worth in our own personal lives, whether we're trying to be successful, just trying to be happy, etc.
It is inherently pointless, though. Nothing we do has any consequence on our ultimate place. No matter who you are, you'll eventually end up on the same level as the lowest vagrant. The only thing we can do is strive that the amount of times we're happy ultimately outnumbers the amount of times we're suffering. That's more like it.

Out of interest, would your position change if technology made it possible to live forever and - as a result of that - literally not a single human being would choose to have a new child. Would your philosophy, solely in relation to human beings change?
Secondly, what if technology literally made it possible for the suffering of sentient beings to be "abolished"? I just wrote like, an essay on how poorly formed these questions are, but I'll instead answer them as best as I can... Yes, given the two proposals, that would change my philosophy. However, it would be a dreadfully pointless existence (and bearing witness to the entropic heat death of the sun and having our planet destroyed as all seven billion of us live it out and subsequently float around in space completely complacent about it all doesn't sound like an existence I would want to be a part of). Additionally, we'd have to prioritize the abolition of suffering before we discover the key to immortality. But... you see why the very notion of "no suffering" is unimaginable, right? That's what makes the questions difficult to answer seriously. The mission for me at the point of immortality is to find myself an "off" button. I'd want to stop my immortality after the first couple thousand years, if that.

You don't "grow out" of Pokémon. You just get bored of it.
Unless you stopped because you felt pressured by your peers to do so?... In which case, you'd be a spineless pussy, but I'm sure that's not the case...

It's not that life is worthless (you're an idiot if you think that). It's that the universe would be worthless without us. Extant sentient life is all the value in the universe--and it's only because we have this capacity to suffer. As long as there are sentient beings with a capacity to suffer in existence, life will always have meaning in the universe. If all sentient life were to end, there really would be no point in the existence of the universe--but there wouldn't really need to be. That's sort of the end goal, in my eyes.

ummm
i got nothing
Well, back in like... elementary school, there would be two kids who would literally chase people down wielding mistletoe (or anything that they could find that looked like mistletoe) and raising it above two kids' heads, telling them that they have to kiss. I never fell victim to it, but the look of horror and disgust on my peers' faces when they did were priceless.
