Oh and one more thing, can anyone give me a brief overview of the DLC? The humble bundle came with all of the expansion packs included, so I have access to all of them. Should I still just play a grand campaign first? Does the DLC add anything to that general grand campaign, or are they completely separate? Should I play one of those instead?

Thanks for the advice. I won't be looking up any tutorials or playstyles as I'm somewhat confident in my own battle abilities after pouring hours into Rome 1 and Medieval 1, but I will install most of those mods. Appreciate it.

Just got done installing Rome 2 so I'll be starting my playthrough tomorrow. Any tips or advice from those who already played it? What factions to pick or avoid, what campaign to play (I have all the DLC) and so on? I haven't seriously played a Total War game since the first Rome, so I'm pretty out of touch with the series.

This is another thing I always thought was just movie fiction about the US, along with things like spelling bee competitions.

Spelling bees are legit and televised.
I always thought that was just too strange to be true. I would've wrecked people if that was a thing here. There were a lot of things I thought were just fiction in American shows, like the whole football / cheerleaders / high school scenarios that I saw on TV. Oh and tumbleweeds, for whatever reason.

But yeah, this is also one of those things I only discovered a few years ago. Autistic people are generally not part of the general school system here.

Calling it "female circumcision" is glib as fuck.

Sorry, wormdicks--foreskin isn't anywhere near as important as the clitoris. Don't inject this issue with your fucking non-issue.
Just for clarity's sake:

- full removal of the clitoris and/or labia along with ritual sewing is estimated to only happen in less than 10% of all cases of FGM. Most stop at what's usually refered to as a 'knicking' of the clitoral hood or performing a labiaplasty. The term 'female genital mutilation' covers every non-medically necessary alteration of the female genitalia, including those that are as 'harmless' as piercings and the likes.

- the clitoral hood (which is most often removed) is made up of the exact same tissue as the foreskin and has pretty much the exact same functions as the foreskin does (sexual pleasure, protection, moisturising...). Slightly NSFW wiki page for source.

- while you're going to disagree because of your anti-natalist POV and say that bringing someone in this world is terrible in the first place, routine genital mutilation of non-consenting infants no matter what gender with a wide array of possible complications and negative side-effects for no good reason is by no means a non-issue and is pretty morally disgusting either way.

tl;dr no they're not the same and FGM is often worse, but the whole "others have it worse and other issues are more important so all your complaints are non-issues that shouldn't be brought up" is akin to dismissing 99% of modern feminist issues because there's still women in other countries getting stoned for being raped.

No pokemon team is complete without a Dragonite man.

Where da hell will I get a Dragonite in White 2?!
Google says to fish for a Dratini and Dragonspiral tower. Then level it up to 55 of course.

Is there a way to just have a battle between two armies? If I got the games I wouldn't really be interested in doing any of the turn based strategy, or at least not starting out.
I used to think the same way, but the turn-based strategy compliments the entire experience so well. Winning fights is so much more rewarding when you actually deliver a real blow to a larger enemy and gain resources or land in return, and just playing the fights is a lot more intense when you're actually working with the units and soldiers that you recruited, trained and upgraded yourself, and where a loss actually means something. The game and its battles become a lot more enticing and thrilling when part of a larger campaign.

But yes, there are alternatives. First there's custom battles. There you can just pick a faction for you and your enemy, the troops each army gets, the battleground / arena, weather, season and game conditions before simply battling it out. Then you also have historic battles where you fight a famous battle from history from one of the two sides.

Finally, and I may be wrong on this, I remember reading that the later games have an option to disable a lot of the turn-based micromanaging stuff. Not sure if this is actually a thing now as I haven't played them myself, but this would allow you to play through the campaign with most of the managing and politics being let to the AI to handle while you just focus on the actual warfare and troop creation / movements.

Gaming / Total War Humble Bundle
« on: September 24, 2015, 05:26:55 AM »
I rarely buy the humble bundles because it's 99% trash, indie or weebshit (usually all in one), but this one's pretty good and has Total War for a theme. Figured I'd make a thread for those who were unaware that this is going on.

Pay whatever you want for:

- Medieval 2 + all DLC
- Shogun 1 + all DLC

Pay more than $10 for:

- Medieval 1 + all DLC
- Empire + all DLC
- Shogun 2 + all DLC
- Napoleon + all DLC
- a 66% discount coupon for Attila when it launches

Pay more than $15 for:

- Rome 2 + all DLC

And then there's some other stuff like a soundtrack, digital map and other stuff for spin-off games that no one really cares about.

tl;dr $15 for all Total War games (minus Rome 1) + all DLC . Offer expires in 6 days.

I've only sporadically played the games after Rome 1 and Empire, so I'm pretty excited to give the newer ones a go. Any tips from veterans? First gotta get this stuff downloaded though. 20-30gb per game (not including DLC) is quite hefty.

Can't say I've really cared much about the US presidential campaign. It isn't something terribly important to me. Either way:

Sanders is good on most social issues, but pretty bad economically.

Clinton is corrupt, crazy and seems to sway all over the place.

No clue about other democrats.

And then there's the republicans, who may generally be more competent when it comes to economics, but are also mostly terrible and very conservative on the other stuff.

If I absolutely had to choose, I'd probably say Sanders but only because I would not want Hilary and can't support people stuck in the last century.

The Flood / Re: What will you tell your kids about Santa?
« on: September 22, 2015, 10:32:27 AM »
Santa isn't really a thing here, so that's not much of an issue.
obviously belgian children have no childhood then LOL

no santa, no childhood
cause PSU said so
Well fuck me. :(

They're essentially the same thing though. Guy comes through the chimney and gives presents to the kids who have been good throughout the year. The European one called Sinterklaas is the inspiration for the American Santa. They even look alike, with some minor differences. Chubbier old white men wearing red and white dropping presents from a bag.

Too bad my childhood apparently was still trash, though.

I normally try to avoid jumping on news bandwagons, but I can't think of a single legitimate reason for such an absurd price hike.  He'll have to produce some very compelling profit data to justify this, because it sounds like fucking bullshit.
I remember reading that his justification was that this way he'd be able to pour that money back into more research on the drug. In response to this, people were pointing out that this is bullshit as the drug is hardly being researched as it is and that there's no evidence to support that he'd actually use the money for such a purpose.

The Flood / Re: What will you tell your kids about Santa?
« on: September 22, 2015, 08:47:29 AM »
Santa isn't really a thing here, so that's not much of an issue. We have the European version that the American Santa is based on, even though he doesn't really have anything to do with Christmas.

Never really thought about this though. I suppose I'd probably just do what my parents did with me and my siblings. Wait until the kids are 8 or so and then drop some subtle hints before telling them.

Serious / Re: "I hate what marijuana does to my students"
« on: September 22, 2015, 04:11:31 AM »
Gotta say that he does have a point. The legalisation of marijuana is one of those issues that I honestly couldn't care less about, but this seems to be a keen observation. While weed isn't as dangerous or has as much of a direct influence on most people as hard drugs or alcohol, it can and does affect a lot of people negatively. Smoking it is bad for your lungs, lot of less than pure stuff out there that can be pretty bad for you, impairs your judgment and actions, high risk of psychological addiction, potential of being a gateway drug...

Anyways, story time (yes, it's anecdotal). One of my best friends throughout high and middle school got involved with weed at the end of high school. His grades took a pretty big hit, he stopped most of his extracurricular activities and started hanging out with different people. He went to university, smoked even more and simply "hung out" all the time, neglected his classes and such. Ended up failing university two years in and then went on to study something different and less challenging at the community college where he is again struggling. Smoking weed also got him started on smoking a lot of actual cigarettes and trying other and harder drugs quite often. And he isn't the only person I've seen this happen to.

Moderation is key, sure, but weed makes it very, very easy tot get too comfortable with being lazy and doing nothing. For a lot of people, it drains your energy and creativity. It often kills any drive to go out and accomplish, and creates what's essentially an escape from outside pressure and responsibilities.

I'd be fine with it if he or she could not let their religious beliefs intervene with their policymaking and support of a secular state. I'd be just as opposed to a radical Christian / Catholic / Mormon president who couldn't do that as I would be to a Muslim one.
