Anyone else also got in?
I saw people complain that its not as fast as past Quakes, is it much different?
It's not even live yet, so we'll find out soon. The demos at events seemed pretty damn fast though.

Flee. A horror movie about a gang of popular gullible teens, the awkward outcast and black guy being chased by a mysterious being in the woods.

In all seriousness though, "Flee" would be a pretty decent movie name.

Gotta admit that I'm starting to feel the hype. Bethesda and id actually seem committed to making it a success. Marketing is on point and they're doing a good job getting the name out there. They've said on numerous occasions that esports is going to be a major focus of theirs. The 1v1 FPS scene is a big gap right now and Quake would be perfect to fill it. Several famous pro players (Fatal1ty, Evil, Tox...) have been involved in the development and they've got one of the biggest former pro names (Zero4) as a manager of their esports division. And many of the old legends and veterans of the game (many of which are now playing Overwatch and such) have picked up the series again and have talked about coming back if Champions turns out to be successful.

I really hope they can get this right. Get a lot of old pros (Evil, Cypher, Rapha, Cooller, Killsen...) back as well as draw in a big audience in regular and major events. The thought of 50-100k viewer streams for big Quake team and 1v1 tournaments is getting me hard already.

QUAKE BETA KEYS ARE BEING GIVEN OUT
Yep, I've got mine. It has an NDA and everything, meaning there won't be any streams. Already downloaded and set up the launcher. It's going live in like 5 hours.

Also how is Quake being 500 times harder than Dark Souls impressive? Especially when Serious Sam makes it look like a baby game?
What is this meme.
Have you ever played Serious Sam? it seems like something up your alley
Not in a very, very long time.
Wow, took you long enough to reply
I had to weigh my words.

Flee, you help keep this site going, and I have always been struck by your intelligence and reasoned approach to issues. You have emy respect and thanks for being a mod here.
Thanks man, I appreciate it. You too help this site going, just like any of the other regulars on here. You contribute a lot of good threads and your art, both drawings and figurines, is nice to look at.

For what it's worth, we've had our difference but you're a pretty solid guy. I hope college works out for you and that you can leave all the miserable crap behind.
I wasn't speaking to offend you, it was just a crack about lawyers in general.

I disagree with many of your opinions, but I have a lot of respect for you.
I do remember one time I spent a long time joking about europoor education, but I was just trying to get a rise.
I know man, I wasn't referring to the lawyer joke. Same to you.

This is the full PM he sent me:

I know it's your own to choose but the fact that you show any kind of regret shows that you know you're going down the wrong road with drugs. I won't try to guilt trip you on this but I'll speak plainly because you're already doing it to yourself. You're wallowing in it.

You can give me any excuse about your drugs and I'll tell you why it's bullshit. I've seen and heard every last argument from people trying to come up with a reason to support their usage. The worst ones are those kids who say "Oh don't worry, I don't do heavy stuff." It catches up with them. Every time. Their tame shit fizzles out and then they're ready to try something new and then they're fucked.

You're headed there. Within 6 years if you keep going where you are now, you'll be trapped. This comes back to what I said. It's your call. You've got other stuff in your life weighing you down. I get that. Doesn't mean you can't man up to things and start taking control over your life before you don't have a choice anymore. This isn't a guilt trip. But I want you to think about it.

Rob, Melissa, Dylan, David, Reg, Caitlyn.

You don't know those people and you never will since they all died from their cancers. They didn't have a choice. If any of them could be alive, I'd bet my life that they wouldn't waste theirs.

I understand you. I get the self pity and the wallowing. You're smart enough to know that it's closing in around you and you feel like you don't have what's needed to escape it. You lack the will and the drive to pull yourself out of it on your own.

Get help. Try anything you can to pull yourself out of your hole. Don't sit around and watch yourself circle around that drain until you've gone too far. I'm telling you. It'll catch up to you. Maybe you want it to. I say that's a load of shit. You don't have any valid reason to want that kind of fate.

And now he'll never know just how much me improving my life is down to his words. How much of my motivation comes from him and the example he could set even over a forum.

He died without knowing his effort really did make a difference. Goddamn.
Best thing you can do is keep it up for him. Make it so that his advice and impression ends up being a lasting one.

...you being on the mod team. I think people forget that this place runs solely off of good will. And it's held together by it as well.

Anybody who works on the mod team's gotta sift through a lot of crap and put a fair amount of their own time in. And you do it for nothing. It speaks a little bit about your character. It's good. And it's a largely thankless job. Allow me to say thank you for helping to manage this community, and for doing it of your of your own accord so kindly.

Sandtrap messaged me some long-ass message when I was depressed. Telling me to keep my chin up and sort my life out. I didn't reply.

Idk if he saw my thread about kicking drugs and getting on medication, but I hope he did. And I wish I had replied to him, to let him know his efforts weren't in vain.

But now he's gone and isn't coming back. And it sucks.

Don't let what you didn't say become a regret. Just say it. I cried when I read Psy's post, and Challenger made a point about how we were often too lazy or dismissive to consider him. And many of us have been.

Yeah, I don't know where the fuck I was going with this post. But. . . Yeah.

I'll fucking miss him.
How is being clear working out for you?
Best decision of my life.
Happy to hear that man. I hope you can keep it up.

I'm not much of an emotional or sappy guy so I'm not looking to turn this into a tribute or anything similar, but I figured it could still be nice.

A common theme in Psy's thread about Sandtrap is how many regret not having done enough, shown more interest or engaged with him before it was too late. Obviously it's too late for Sandy himself, but not necessarily the rest of us. After all, life is short and can end very suddenly. People you take for granted might at some point just stop being around. This thread, I thought, can serve as a reminder of that.

In real life, you might want to remember to give that (grand)parent a call. Drop a Facebook message to that one friend that you've fallen out with. Tell your loved ones that you care.

On here, you can do what Sandtrap did. Vent a little and tell the rest what you're struggling with right now. Or just as well, listen (actually and genuinely so too) to others and give them honest advice and support. Give the person above you (or anyone else for that matter) a compliment and tell them why you think they're a good person or valuable member of the site.

tl;dr: don't let genuine compassion and human interaction be a regret when it's too late. Tell others about how you're doing, give and receive advice, hand out a few compliments. Come and be a great guy like Sandtrap for a bit. Or don't post at all and let this thread die, but spare a thought for those you care about.

Ah fuck, that really sucks. Sandtrap was a great guy. Hadn't spoken to him much lately, but I still remember checking up on him back in the day. I guess that I just started to assume that he was slowly starting to do better because of how little he talked about his condition. I regret not talking to him more now.

At least he's no longer in pain and misery. I really hope I'm wrong about religion and all of this afterlife stuff so that he's now parrying scrubs and Banshee bombing grunts in the real Valhalla. He'll always be missed.

Ctrl+F Doom. Zero results. This forum has no taste.
I already have the 2016 one on console, so doesn't matter much.
are you playing fps games with a gamepad
non-twitch shooters play just fine with a controller.
Just fine is still pretty bad when compared to a mouse though.

Why would I?
just saying doom would feel different on pc if you werent using gamepad for both
I'm sure it's a lot better on PC, but I don't feel like buying a game I already beat and got 100% completion on again. Maybe if it drops down in price a lot.

53% on Metacritic, 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, already shaping up to do poorly in sales.

This is what happens when you try and do an anime.

« on: April 03, 2017, 09:51:09 AM »
Doesn't even look half bad, but I'm always sceptical about serious movies / horror focusing entirely on a children's cast.

Stranger things was stellar, if they can capture half of that it will be p good.
Sure thing, but Stranger Things was neither horror nor entirely focused on children. They may have been the protagonists, but two episodes in and half the show already covered several adult story lines and characters (the mom, sheriff, teacher, older teens...) taking up a lot of screen time. But here, there's not a single adult with an actual role in the entire trailer. I'm sure there will be some in the full movie and it might be pretty good, but I'm skeptical. Flashbacks of the atrocious final part of Super 8 come to mind, for example.

Planetside 2 is F2P but has a massive learning curve and is a bitch on new players.
Why does it have such a steep learning curve?
Because there's nothing separating new players from vets who have played for thousands of hours. You're basically going to get dunked over and over again until you either learn to git gud or rage quit. You also need to learn how to choose your battles properly learn and which outfits to join or avoid, because solo play is hell.
Fair enough. I played Planetside 2 at some point and didn't think it was that hard. I only played it for like half an hour though, so I might be wrong.
