He never agreed that the chants were awful. His first and only response was an attempt to justify their anger.

unlisting the video doesn't allow you to circumvent youtube's ToS, and nobody (except das and whoever is that cretin who claims to be in a relationship with you) wants to see your dick

in terms of audio, there wasn't

visually, there was enough nudity to warrant reporting the video, which i did

you know, i'm not really sure, but i do remember loving pretty much any movie that you'd put in front of me as a kid—the very idea of movies being "bad" hadn't entered my brain until i saw the Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993

i saw it very young, maybe 9 or 10, and i wanted to love it, because the idea of adapting a video game series that i was such a huge fan of to film was the most exciting thing ever

i had my dad pick up a VHS tape of it from blockbuster, and he must have known how bad it was, because he wouldn't even watch it with me (and we watched everything together)

and as i'm watching it, it was probably the most baffling headfuck piece of media i had ever seen up until that point, such that i genuinely did not know how to respond—it felt to me how i imagine losing your virginity to your elementary school teacher would feel, or something, where even if i had the vocabulary to describe what i had just experienced, i wouldn't even be able to, because my mind would not have been developed enough to even comprehend it

"what WAS that? did i enjoy that? why was it so weird? i don't think i enjoyed that, actually—i don't think i enjoyed that at all"
you know, just completely dumbfounded

that's when i learned that not all movies are good—but it's kind of hard to pinpoint when i started to develop a sense of criticism, or an understanding of what makes good/bad filmmaking

Nope I don't hate or fear Trans, I just find it a headache having distinguish between transexual, transvestite, pre-op, post-op, ladyboy, boylady?...
do a little bit of reading and ask questions if you don't understand something—that's all you really need to do

the stereotype that transpeople will fly off the handle if you slip up is generally not true, and the ones that refuse to be patient with those of you who are a little slower on the uptake are generally disliked by the reasonable ones that make up the majority of the trans community, most of whom completely understand that some concepts can be pretty difficult to wrap your head around if you've never had to think about stuff like "what gender am i" before

to help you out a bit, for example, i don't think anyone really uses the word "transvestite" anymore, and it doesn't actually refer to any kind of transgender individual anyway—it's only used to describe cross-dressers, or people who dress up like the opposite sex without identifying as the opposite sex (such as drag queens, who mainly do it for fun, not because they are having an identity crisis)

"transexual" is also not really used anymore, either, because the whole point of being trans is not identifying with your biological sex—therefore, the more accurate term is "transgender." the barebones basic distinction between sex and gender (that can be used as a rule of thumb) is that sex is what's going on physically, and gender is what's going on mentally

if you are a cisgender man, that means that your sex and gender happen to match, just like the majority of humans

when there's a mismatch between sex and gender, you get transgenderism—and because people are strange and complex and unique and have different circumstances, everyone's going to have a unique case of it

it's not really important to know EVERY little thing about this stuff, especially if you don't happen to know any Ts anyway, but as long as you remain open and respectful of people, that's really the only thing anyone wants at the end of the day (and yes, you're allowed to make mistakes)

Second, Verb, you seem to be not understanding that the entire point is that the possibility of one of the 100 condemning you is what constitutes the game theory outcome of it being necessary for you to be that one.
i understand it just fine—everything you're saying is logically sound

i literally just don't like that you used the word "guarantee," because it's simply inaccurate

let's change the scenario so that all 100 people make their choice simultaneously, and that you're part of the group—you, with your supreme knowledge of game theory, mark down the first option as your choice, and against all odds, it's revealed to you that everyone else voted for the second option

what would your reaction be? the way i see it, it's a good thing the option to relinquish your immortality was baked into the hypothetical, otherwise you'd have the biggest fucking egg on your face
Quote
You're for some reason stuck way back at unlikely and impossible
i don't see it as "way back"—i see this question as further along the conversation than what you're pondering, because the root of it is more concerned with the ethics of the situation, which is a fundamentally deeper question than "what's the best strategy to 'win' at this game"

you're trying to play the game to "win" it, because you think reducing your choice down to what produces the "highest self-benefit" is how you "win" a game like this

you're the kind of guy who watches a show like Squid Game for the games and not the message

a more high-minded person could argue that the "best" option would be to put your own personal comfort at stake and be willing to have yourself tortured for all eternity for the sake of keeping your principles, your innocence, or even just maintaining a clean conscience

the way you look at the "game" only applies if you equate making it out alive and unharmed as "winning," which is understandable if incredibly basic and middlebrow

Actually you are the one being obtuse because the difference between unlikely and impossible is so irrelevant to this discussion that there is no reason to bring it up
he used the word "guarantee" wrong, and i carefully explained to him why it was

when someone is wrong, they have to be corrected—it doesn't matter if it's "relevant" (which it is, you're just being your typical dumbass self as usual)

yes, because if you said that you could NEVER spontaneously combust, then you're missing the point of the word "spontaneously," and that is something that ought to be corrected, because it's bad to be wrong

glad you get it, good job

Nah, you can't just ignore the entirety of game theory.
if whatever you think "game theory" means clashes with basic, fundamental things like stochasticity that hard, i think i can

do you deny that if you flip a coin a million times, you COULD get heads every single time? or do you think it's literally impossible for that to happen (you know, instead of just extremely unlikely)
Human behaviour isn't a coin flip.
but this hypothetical doesn't really observe complex human behavior—it observes the choice between a simple binary of options for which there exist compelling reasons to take either, depending on your disposition

we don't know how the islanders are chosen, so we can assume that they'd be chosen randomly

take a random youtube video with at least 100 dislikes, but a like/dislike ratio of 99:1—out of all the people who rated this video one way or the other, let's randomly select 100 of those people

out of those randomly selected individuals, it's very unlikely that all 100 of them voted to dislike the video, but since we already know that 100 people did, we already know that there's a remote possibility of such a thing occurring

it's the same principle here, except rather than using raw data to support my position, i'm essentially using common sense—i'm personally fairly confident that there's more than 100 people on this planet of 7.9 billion who would never have anyone tortured under any circumstances, even if it would grant them immortality

to put it another way, in order to disagree with my position, you would have to believe that the world's population contains less than 100 people who would choose the second option, and that you also just happen to be speaking to one of them—that would be pretty remarkable

knowing that these people exist is enough to say that it isn't guaranteed that someone on that island will vote to fuck everyone over—you can only be 99.99999% sure if you want, but you cannot be 100% sure unless you happen to know all of the people on the island

i'm basically explaining the difference between "unlikely" and "impossible" to you right now, which i don't think i should have to do, so i can only assume you already understand this, and that you're just being semantically imprecise or deliberately obtuse

Can't wait to torture this idiot for a trillion years while I'm chilling in paradise 8)
which is another thing that separates this from a true prisoner's dilemma in the sense that having the choice-makers be randomly chosen is imbalanced—why should some random person get to choose first over another random person? what's the logic behind that? if i were second in line, and the very first person chose to fuck everyone over, that kinda just throws the whole experiment out the window right off the bat

then again, the closer you model the hypothetical after the prisoner's dilemma, the more you might as well just be thinking about the prisoner's dilemma, where the choices are made simultaneously between just two people

YouTube

^ the most optimal response to the prisoner's dilemma, but only if the "prisoners" (obviously contestants in this case) are allowed to communicate with each other

Out of 100 people it's guaranteed one will
it isn't guaranteed, there's no way to be sure of that

otherwise, you're sadly correct
It is though.  in fact it'd probably be many.  Every person who realizes that the choice it trusting 99 other people completely, or not, is not going to blindly trust 99 other people randomly selected from the population.
it's not necessarily about trust—it's also about you, personally, NOT wanting 99 people to suffer for all eternity and understanding that you have the power to prevent that

do you know how easy it would be for me to find 99 people who would take the second option? even if i had a hard time, if you assume any number of people would share my mentality, there's no reason to suspect that it would be impossible for 99 others to feel the same

the furthest you can go is "it's overwhelmingly likely"—you can't guarantee it any more than i can guarantee the opposite

if it was 100 dahuterschuters on this island, then you'd be wise to choose the first option, but not everybody is you (or someone like you), and that's the point—i'm sure there have been countless stories written about this level of myopia

i would spend 99 years on this island and find a way to "end my existence" just before the time comes for someone to make that choice

at that point, i've already lived what could essentially be considered a "full life" where i didn't have to suffer, and i've never had ambitions to live much longer than that, so there's absolutely no point in playing this silly game with a bunch of potentially sadistic morons for a trillion more years

when you account for things like aging, living more than a normal human lifespan isn't as desirable as most people think it is—i'm willing to bet that most people would choose to end their own lives before they even turned 200

therefore, to make this hypothetical more compelling, shorten the trillion years to just ten years, where someone is given the choice every single month, and instead of gaining simple immortality, you would get to spend that eternity in some sort of paradise, like heaven, while everyone gets cast to hell for as long as you would choose to remain in heaven

also, consider removing the option to just kill yourself—because that's still what i would choose to do in that situation, knowing that i wouldn't have anyone tortured, but that i can't trust anyone else to feel the same way, and that being dead is infinitely preferable to being tortured against my will for eternity

people don't want to live forever—they want to be happy forever, and on an island like this, there may be no suffering, but if there's no guarantee of happiness, then what makes living here any different than toiling in the normal world? there's basically no difference, so it's not a very thought-provoking hypothetical

Yo, I dunno if it's your cup of tea, and it's probably jarring to get into, but if you haven't played Witcher III, you should Verb. Been making my way through it slowly and it just keeps blowing me away for a lot reasons. If you like pondering morals, the game has heaping truckloads of them, plus a shit-ton of great characters and other stuff.
I'm interested in playing it some day, but I'd have to play through the first two Witcher games before I do. As far as I know, those games are only available on PC, so I don't really have the means to jump into this series right now.

I'm sure it's not required for the story to start from the beginning, but it's just how I prefer to play games.

Yeah, I'd say Pyra and Mythra especially sucked because they were clearly just shill picks for Nintendo's latest shit-ass JRPG for weebs to jerk off to, but I do think that's what separates Sora from these characters—it makes all the difference to me that people (at large) actually wanted to have Sora, and went through an organically democratic process to get him there. And after we've been led to believe that Bayonetta won the Smash Ballot for all these years, it was pretty vindicating to learn that it was actually Sora who won all along.

Your issues with Mii Costumes are totally valid. I personally think they're kinda cool, because if nothing else, it's an acknowledgment. I feel worse for Crash fans, who were given absolutely nothing—not even a Spirit (even Rayman has a Spirit).

I don't like KH either, but I do recognize that it's a very big and important series that means so much to so many people, so it's genuinely difficult for me to be too down on it, especially when I personally know several diehard KH fans.

I would've felt the same if it wound up being Master Chief, because even though I've always thought Halo was trash, coming from B.net, I've come to understand just how meaningful and significant Halo really is to some people, even if it means nothing to me.

That's really the cool thing about big ambitious crossovers like this—not only is there at least one character for everyone, there are also characters that you would never touch with a 10-foot pole, and I would say that this is a positive dichotomy if all it does is make more people happy in the long run.

Not to mention, I also just think Sora fits right in with the cast, and probably could've been in the game since Smash 4 if wrangling the rights from Disney hadn't proved to be such an arduous process. That's definitely a big part of it, too—the fact that Nintendo and Sakurai had the power to finesse the rights to a character owned by DISNEY, a company so notorious for being so protective of its intellectual property—all in the name of fanservice—is an absolute triumph no matter how you look at it.

You got your Doom Slayer, at the very least. That's a character I would've been disappointed with, because I've always felt that Doom's ultraviolence wouldn't be something they'd be able to faithfully represent, and it wouldn't have "fit" the game anyway—so even if it's not what you asked for, a Mii Costume just feels like the better route IMO.
