I initially said people should handle themselves, and I stand by that. The conversation just got shifted. If handling yourself is being the bigger person and walking away, fantastic. If it's stooping to the aggressor's level, whatever. The point is you should be able to do it yourself, and not feel obligated to do it for someone else because of their gender or marital status.
