The Flood / Re: Better sci fi universe: Star Trek or Mass Effect?
« on: December 20, 2016, 12:00:32 AM »
easily Star Trek

it's in the distant future and humanity is literally perfected - no malice, no greed, no discrimination, no corruption

who wouldn't want to watch a show with a universe like that?

I found the fat muggle character completely insufferable and his love interest flat and annoying. It was a decent movie.
what is wrong with you

jacob was super endearing and likable

his reason for wanting to open a bakery (to make people happy) was so sweet

other than that, 9/10 film

literally every character was unique and interesting, the plot was kinda convulted at first but made sense after like 25 minutes

also, so many heartwarming/breaking scenes

Spoiler
they should've kept Firth as Grindelwald tho

Freedom of speech is the freedom to yell fire in a crowded theater, or to verbally harass someone.

Freedom of expression is the freedom to hold whatever opinion you'd like and let it be known you hold it, without persecution.

One is a joke, the other is the foundation of democracy.
actually "freedom of expression" is an umbrella term for the five freedoms--speech, assembly, petition, press, religion

what you described as freedom of expression is still freedom of speech--harassment, threats, yelling fire, etc. are simply cited as exceptions that are not protected under free speech laws
nah

that was such a bad line though
the pairing of that childish reward (childish emphasized with how she said it) against the brutal, fucked up, adult-fear punishment she just described in detail was actually pretty brilliant.
you mean corny and hackneyed?
maybe if you have no sense of storytelling
i probably have a greater sense of storytelling than anybody on this forum

i know exactly what the writers were attempting to do, but it was executed so poorly that i legit cannot watch that scene without bursting out laughing
that's on you

it made an excellent capstone to the needful brutality of the scene in a carrot/stick way

just because you didn't like it doesn't make it bad - guess what, you're not the expert authority you think you are

I liked how he killed Spencer because he was a coward and snitch.
I took it more that Negan legit liked Spencer and how subservient/accomodating he was being then felt a bit "betrayed" when he learned Spence was only acting like that for his own personal gain

WW is super sexualized, to be fair. There are far better fictitious woman to champion feminism than her.
She really isn't. Wonder Woman is brutal.

Her outfit is super sexualized and revealing, you can tell that male comic book writers designed her.

if i was in the show, id just do whatever he said tbh
he would probs get bored with you and you'd fall into his bad graces again

it's legit a lose/lose, you have to ride the line between obedient and interesting

He's still an evil, irredeemable monster, but I feel like his character is getting a lot stronger as the show goes on. He actually apologized to Carl and Olivia, showed legit remorse (however brief).

But next episode I have to watch is the midseason finale, so I'm sure he'll do some shit to make me hate him again.

There's a large carnivorous beetle that calls home to my province. They can grow up to about the length of your thumb. They're aggressive as fuck, have mandibles that can take off a chunk of skin deep enough to see bone if they get your fingers, long antenna, and spindly ass fucking legs that stick to anything.

And they have the ability to fly very poorly for short distances. These things will come flying out of the air like a drunk pilot and then latch onto you. First you feel their antennas and then you feel those god awful legs.

I cannot describe to you the feelings that happen when one of these things lands on the back of your head.

Still haven't gotten enough curiousity to see what the hubub is about discord. I hear it's like skype but not shit. I make a terrible conversationalist on those things too.
Believe me, you don't need to be good at convo to just chill on discord and say something every now and again. You should give it a try, it's way better than Skype.

"have sex with me or I kill your children"

The girl then has sex with him because of this threat

apparently not rape

>"Fuck me or I kill your child"
>No.

Oh wow, no rape.
Yeah, that's still rape.

Forced consent isn't real consent. Really not a fucking difficult concept.
