Oh, I forgot to mention: watch the English dub for sure. Even anime purists agree that the English dub is far better than the Japanese one. The entire show takes place in America, and the dub gets the accents and such down to a point.

seems pretty interesting, i do enjoy drama
the art style is kinda... uhh not my thing imo, but thats just because im so used to smooth, cutesy art. not sure if that makes sense
Itās definitely no Totally Spies, but it can be super wholesome and heartwarming at times. It definitely has some violence and grittiness, but not just for the sake of it. I enjoy the art style personally, it sells the dark world it takes place in, and makes those wholesome moments more wholesome in comparison, and make the rays of light shine so much brighter. The tone is darkly comedic throughout, though. Even the dramatic moments are usually undercut with some form of levity. Itās never like youāre watching The Godfather or anything.

Please stop posting.
Just stop.
Donāt you ever find it a bit rude that no matter what kind of content I post, whether itās something silly like this, or something of a much higher quality like this thread, your response is identical? Why should I even bother with an attempt at good-faith, quality threads? Why should I even give you that effort? If the response is the same regardless, then I have no reason to even forgo my fun (for me) dumb threads and attempt to make something of my posts. Youāre being a Chuck to my Jimmy, insisting that Iāll never be able to be a quality poster because of my past and, ironically, making sure that very thing happens. Your inevitable reply to this is oh, so predictable. But I implore you to just chill out a bit and either donāt say anything at all, or give legitimate discussion where itās due.

Please just take my recommendation and watch this fantastic show if you havenāt yet. But if thatās not enough, take a look at this video above. It excellently sums up whatās so great about this show, and I want to actually challenge Verbatimās argument from his Evangelion review about themes in this post. Baccano is a multi-faceted mystery/drama with plenty of comedic elements. It takes place in Prohibition-era America, in three timelines that ultimately connect to each other in plot relevance (1929, 1930, and 1931). It has a huge cast of interesting characters, some appearing in only one timeline, some appearing in two, and one set of characters, extremely important but essentially comic characters, who appear in all three. Despite how muddled this may sound, it never gets bogged down and youāre never at a lull where youāre asking āwait, who is this guy againā? The characters make the show, in my opinion, but make no mistake - the plot of the show is one of the most well-crafted ones where youāre never confused, but always wanting more. The only time you might be scratching your head is at the end of the first episode, as, fair warning, itās more of a āvignettes of things to comeā situation that doesnāt make a whole lot of sense on first viewing except to the most eagle-eyed viewer. I always tell people that no, you canāt skip the first episode, as it expertly sets up the characters and the tone, but the first aspect of a concise, serialized story begins in the second episode. The show is almost, almost like a āPulp Fiction meets a mafia movie meets a supernatural horror storyā, in a way. Thatās just a simple comparison, though, and the show itself is unique and unlike anything youāve probably seen. This show makes me disagree with Verbatimās idea that themes make a story. He said that without themes, without the tomato in the sandwich, a story is just bread. That may be the case with most stories, yes. That may be the case when a story is trying to illustrate a larger point or provide some larger reason for you to watch it - for Verbatim, he likes to walk away from a story with some takeaway he can apply to his life, to feel like his time wasnāt wasted. I can understand that, but really, do you need a theme or lesson to have something to apply to your life? What about a āI relate to this character and the things they went through in this story remind me of things Iāve gone through in my own lifeā? What about ātheir arc and how they changed, and how they resolved the crisis they were in has given me new insight on how to combat my similar life situationā? Iām mainly speaking to Verbatim in this paragraph, because for most people, merely the promise of watching an incredible, high-quality show is its own reward. What Iām saying is that you donāt need a theme, or to be taught a lesson, to take something away from a show or film. The characters themselves can be what you take away. Verbatim compared shows to a sandwich - the tomato being the themes/lessons, and the bread being the vehicle - the plot and characters - on which those lessons are served. Baccano, as I said, is unlike any show Iāve ever seen, and I think an exception can be made. Baccano is like an entree of tastiest potato chips youāve ever tasted. Not some Lays bullshit - the genuine article, made by some renowned Southern cook and served to you in a fancy restaurant. Are they a sandwich, are they good for you? Not really. Theyāre still deep fried and covered in salt and seasonings and all that. They have no health food content (i.e. themes, lessons, deeper meaning), but goddamn they are delicious. Goddamn you will reach for one after the other, and theyāll be gone as fast as you can consume them. And while they didnāt do anything for you on a health food level, goddamn youāll remember that dining experience, eating those chips, for a long, LONG time. Baccano takes its characters and narrative very seriously, and everything is very consistent. But it also doesnāt pander to you pretending to be something itās not. Itās definitely not an Evangelion or something like The Shining. If I had to reach and guess the overall themes of the show, they would be āmorality, togetherness, and familyā. The show goes out of its way to reward the characters who try to do the right thing, make the morally neutral ones reconsider their lives, and punish the outright monsters. Thereās a sense of camaraderie in each episode, working together to defeat this darkness that looms over everything. And in the end of the show, thereās yes, a sense of familial love that these non-related characters have developed toward each other. You will love the characters, thatās for sure. Youāre connected with them and want to see them triumph over their foes almost immediately. Even the āvillainsā are endearing and charming (except for literally two who are meant to be Hate Sinks). Anyway, this isnāt really a show that even has themes, and the three I listed above are almost more like plot fixtures than themes. Itās not a pretentious show, even if it might seem that way initially. Just give it a chance and youāll enjoy it - I promise, on the honor of Winona.

Did you save Niko like a loser with emotions or make the cruel hard difficult but ultimately far more moral option of defying the World Machine and saving the world?
Niko might be the only non-NPC in the game (aside from you and, arguably, the Author) but that doesnāt matter. As Niko said, Silver and Prototype existed outside the World Machineās code when they saved you in the mines - the place that even the World Machine couldnāt see. That proves that every tamed robot and human NPC character in the game is a true AI, capable of advancing their knowledge based on preexisting knowledge, and thus able to gain sentience and sapience. That makes them just as real as Niko.
And thus even though Niko is a human and the NPCs are code, theyāre living code, and itās morally reprehensible to make them suffer in a cold sunless world to save the life of a single human being.
Thoughts? Did you even play the game? Yeah, you. I know whoās reading this.

I like how you get more mad the longer the review goes on. Also I actually want to watch Evanglion or however you spell it for the sake of watching it now, not just for approval points. It sounds good, and from the way you describe Asuka sheād probably be my favorite character. I kind of want to watch that movie, though, (but donāt want to get too spoiled so I wonāt - the review itself was pretty spoiler free because Iām not going to remember any of that insane bs with gay magic and pulling apart spears to stop lily from rising from her grave ) because of how insane it sounds. I feel like Iād laugh throughout the thing in a āThe Roomā kind of way, especially since its ridiculousness is intentional like in classic Scooby Doo. Anyway why arenāt you getting paid for this? That tomato/sandwich metaphor for themes was a really inspired way to put it. Like you waste time posting these reviews here, why not bite the small amount it costs and register a domain name and make an actual website with Cheatās server? She helped me make winonaryder.club which is probably down now but yeah I had that site to say I had a winona ryder fansite for a while. Long post lol sorry

I have a theory that the reason you guys are still on a message board which handles like it launched ten years before it did and had no upgrades since is because you don't know which series of tubes will lead you from the depths of php.

Then don't?
No one is compelling you to click on my threads, you know.
Consider it constructive criticism, prick.
I will not. Constructive criticism is just that - constructive. Whining about post length just makes you look like a child with ADD.
It's like if Roger Ebert posted a review of a movie and in the comments you said "I'm not reading all that" and acted like you said something profound.
If Roger Bert has 2 views (one from himself and one from the commenter) he should listen to that advice
Terrible logic. Might doesn't make right. It would be the same review from him, regardless of if he got one view or one million.

Only on episode 3, but I can already tell I'm in this one for the long haul. It's hilarious and has gorgeous animation, but more than that, it has social messages and extrospection on a level that I haven't seen from a show in a long time. I don't know if this is a bad thing to say, but from Sanford & Son to Chris Rock, I've always found black comedy that exposes subtle forms of racism, the plight of black communities, and the broken unity of black people amongst themselves (internalized phobia of your own race included) extremely thought-provoking. I love the tension between Robert and Ruckus, and though I haven't seen enough of the show to really elaborate, the checkers match between the two in episode 2 says it all. In short, the two of them are debating about Ruckus' borderline worship of the white race. Ruckus is a self-hating black man who is going on and on about how the white man "civilized" the black man, and how black people owe the white race, but only repay them by protesting and voting. Robert is at first befuddled by Ruckus (Ruckus says "king me" when it seems like the debate is going in his favor) but quickly recovers and puts Ruckus on his toes with his excellent wordplay and logical reasoning. This puts Ruckus in a state of mania and he goes off on a rant, just repeating the same shit he already said. The scene ends with Robert responding to that rant with a calm "Well, how about this: game, nigga." I love how the checkers match itself is a metaphor for the debate they're having, and it's not until Ruckus trips up on his own words and unwillingly cedes the debate to Robert that Robert wins the match itself. The "nigga" part from Robert is the icing on the cake - Robert reminding Ruckus that as much as he wants to be white, he is a black man. And that's not a bad thing. That's the B-plot of the episode. The A-plot is about R Kelly's trial for sexual acts with a minor. The prosecutor, Tom Dubois, is a black man who's confident that the mountain of evidence against R Kelly will be enough to convict him. (Love that character btw, hope he shows up more. Perhaps one of the most moral and upstanding characters on the show so far). R Kelly's unnamed defense attorney is a white man (voiced by Adam West no less) who uses R Kelly's immense popularity, and an insistence that the white establishment is out to get R Kelly, to quickly swing the trial in his favor despite the evidence. The defense attorney also uses the fact that Dubois is married to a white woman as a way to discredit him and imply that he's part of the white establishment himself. It very soon becomes clear that R Kelly is going to get off scot-free, and Dubois' BSOD monologue almost made me cry, but more just made me so disappointed and angry: Dubois: Please, people! You saw the tape. The girl testified she was underage. Y-you're not allowed to do that to a little girl!!! We have a videotape!
Female Juror: Go tell that to your white bitch.
Other Juror: Mm-hmm!
Dubois: [Dejected, head hung] ......the prosecution rests. Huey would be the "main character" of the show, a 10 year old boy who very adamantly despises what he sees as the white establishment and its privilege, and who is extremely proud of his own race. Huey is silent throughout the entire trial (his brother Riley by contrast loudly protesting for R Kelly to be freed throughout the episode). However, after Dubois more or less cedes the case to the defense, head flat on his desk, and just waiting for this to be over, Huey gets up from the audience and walks to the well of the courtroom. He delivers an excellent speech that made me appreciate his character so much more (up until now you weren't sure what side he was on): Hey! What the hell is wrong with you people? Every famous nigga that gets arrested is not Nelson Mandela! Yes, the government conspires to put a lot of innocent black men in jail on fallacious charges! But R. Kelly is not one of those men!
We all know the nigga can sing! But what happened to standards? What happened to bare minimums? You a fan of R. Kelly? You wanna help R. Kelly? Then get some counseling for R. Kelly! Introduce him to some older women! Hide his camcorder! But don't pretend like the man is a hero! Act like you got some goddamn sense, people! I wish the episode ended with R Kelly going to jail, but the crowd just ignores Huey's speech and acquits him anyway. The ending narration from Huey / montage of what happened to everyone afterward, ties everything up in an extremely succinct way that cemented this episode as one of my favorite episodes of anything, ever: Huey voiceover: I did battle with ignorance today, and ignorance won. I admit that I'm often vexed at the behavior of my own people. Yeah, vexed is a good word.
Dubois: [Having lost the case, returns to his cheap car. His wife greets him there.]
Sarah Dubois: [Hugs Dubois] [Smiling] I told you about messing with them white women.
Huey voiceover, continued: You do what you can to help black folks, and they make you wonder why you even bother.
Ruckus: [Asleep at the park bench, with nowhere to go.]
Robert: [Parks his car next to Ruckus. He wakes Ruckus up and helps take him home.]
Huey voiceover, continued: But they're our people, and we got to love them regardless. One thing for sure, though: can't blame this one on the white man.
[EPISODE ENDS]
Like holy shit. I know it's a simple message, but it still resonated with me so much and changed my mood back to happy. I seriously recommend checking out this iconic show if you haven't seen it yet. I actually can't believe it's taken me so long myself.
