and lmao @ this poll
The person who watches MSNBC is already on MSNBC's side. The person who watches FOX News is already on FOX's side. No change will be made by 1/5 of the population watching media that agrees with them anyway.
Conservatives and liberals consume entertainment media hungrily. An offhand remark in BBT about Trump will have far more effect on the population than a piece on the nightly news about Trump.

It's almost as if every credible definition of an Average American is only about a persons housing, income, and unemployment and has nothing to do with their personal interests. I don't know what definition you're using, but it's far from the idea of defining an Average American.
Um, wrong? I'm not using "average" as the medium, I'm using it as the mode. Someone can be average in their responsibilities or job, but this thread is about television. 2/3 of Americans watch primetime TV every night, and thus the average American watches primetime TV. This isn't even about defining what average means - it's about a provable fact.

LMAO at this poll being 3-1, really shows how unintelligent sep7 really is
Let me answer the poll for anyone not paying attention or just dumb: People drive change. The larger society does. And when you have one medium that reaches 214 million people every night for four hours, and another that reaches 64 million for one hour, one is going to be far more influential.
Maverick agreeing with you shows that you're wrong.
No shame in that.
Not how it works does this mean that television is magically bad now is The Sopranos a bad show if a serial killer likes it

What is an "Average American"? What, am I Chinese spy? An Indian business man?
I work, pay taxes, go to school, live a mundane life, I think that's pretty average.
You react this way every time somebody says this, and every time you're surprised again. This isn't hard stuff. You're an American, just not one that fits into how the majority of them act.

WTF how am I not?
Ian is not an average American. The average American does not: - Watch anime.
- Post on Internet boards.
- Like to dress up as the opposite sex.
- Play Japanese video games.
- Like Disney to the extent you do.
- Not watch primetime TV.
- Not watch a sport regularly.
- Get offended when they're called "not normal".
Note that this doesn't mean the average American is right, only that you aren't one.

Interesting, I thought they were still pushing the Russia thing.
Political analysts agree that it was Trump's constant and dominating presence in newsmedia that allowed him to win. The news says that, not anyone who bases their findings on fact.
Oh hey look, an example of my point. Thanks Ian.
Ian is not an average American. Notice how I didn't cite a single person agreeing with me ITT as "proving my point'

Pretty much impossible to say without some kind of research but I'd speculate entertainment has more of a subconscious influence.
Exactly. Kinda hard for it not to when it reaches so many more people, and for so much longer (do people buy DVDs of old news broadcasts like they buy old seasons of Friends or Seinfeld?)

The news let trump meme his way to the presidency.
You mean public discontent and desperation for strong "tell it like it is" bravado? Macho shit let trump win, not the news.
The average trump voter hasn't watched rhe news in years

Wrong again the average trump voter was with trump from the start, maybe tuned into the news a few times just to see him "political analysts agree", lmao fuck off. Did everyone who identifies as a "political analyst" take a poll? Wording like this is so pretentious and misleading

also I believe the original discussion was:
Is the news biased more by the political and financial interests of the people running the network, or is it biased more by panderdom and the growth of viewership?
^this dude thinks a top executive at NBC tries to use their corporation to affect liberal change, and not to bring the corporation (and themselves by proxy) success. if an nbc executive got fired and fox offered them a job on the condition that they change their social views, EVERY exec would If you disagree with this, you have far too much faith in the world corporate execs aren't ideologues

Spoiler I like Terra's design, but the distinct lack of Tara Strong urks me. Tara Strong only does good shows

Yeah, like My LIttle Pony and Teen Titans Go!.
never seen TTG but from what I hear they break the fourth wall and lampshade shit on there, so it's fine in my book
Hey guys, the show has a shit art style, ruins the characters, ruins the original TV show, but hey it breaks the fourth wall a few times. That means its good.
art style looks cute to me, what's your problem? Also, "ruined" is subjective. Bring up some examples fam. Use your words.

drinking unfiltered water is like eating raw meat
do you know what a mountain spring is I'll take that as a no
the water in the underground basin is literally sealed, pure H2O (the molecule itself). It rises up, into a sterile PVC pipe, which runs down about a mile where people like me can collect it
You're thinking of a river. You only have to filter water if there's something in the water other than H2O.
these statements are false
I can literally take pictures when I go on friday if you want fam

TTG sounds better than TT tbh
never seen either but the first seems to at least have a sense of humor and not take itself too seriously (which you shouldn't do if one of your characters is legit named beast boy)

http://i.imgur.com/kSj9lCvh.gifWould a shitty show actually care enough about quality to count the words and make sure they line up? No, it would just make the joke and assume no one would look into the specifics.

sitcoms are shit tbh
Spoiler Contrarinism is shit.
Everyone has this "haha sitcoms are inherently bad" mentality because they associate the word "sitcom" with shitty multi-camera sitcoms like Two and a Half Men or Mike & Molly. Sitcoms that employ laugh tracks, references for the sake of themselves, and the theory that characters are less important than jokes.
A sitcom is literally just a situational comedy - it doesn't have to be that way. "Smartcoms" like Community and 30 Rock are single-camera shows, devoid of laugh tracks and everything else that makes their lesser competitors terrible. The characters drive the humor instead of being mouthpieces for it. The writing is so sharp that you literally catch new jokes every time you watch it, and there's a new joke nearly every four to five seconds.
Don't hate on quality media because of the connotations of a word.
Would Big Bang Theory have Woody Allen level wit like this:
