Sitcoms that employ laugh tracks, references for the sake of themselves, and the theory that characters are less important than jokes.
A sitcom is literally just a situational comedy - it doesn't have to be that way. "Smartcoms" like Community and 30 Rock are single-camera shows, devoid of laugh tracks and everything else that makes their lesser competitors terrible. The characters drive the humor instead of being mouthpieces for it. The writing is so sharp that you literally catch new jokes every time you watch it, and there's a new joke nearly every four to five seconds.
Don't hate on quality media because of the connotations of a word.
