Someone give me a quick rundown of how these things work so that I can into Deutsches Reich.
It's pretty basic, honestly. You just manage your country, deal with other countries, and annex neutral territories. You can also start research projects, but they have to advance at a reasonable rate.
Are there any concrete rules or mechanics I should be aware of?
No attacking AFK people, no unreasonable expansion (if you're going to annex Alaska, it will take way longer than annexing Belgium; the more powerful the research, the longer it will take, etc.), you have to research in steps (researching muskets before you can research rifles), no godmodding.
And I take it the GM's moderate all that?

Like I said, this doesn't take place in any particular historical year or setting. It's just an alternate reality where all the countries are whole, but the population and technological level resembles the iron age.

Going back to the basics. Everyone starts out as a small nation, just learning the basics of iron weaponry. There's no set year, and unlike the last "primitive" UN game, no restrictions are placed on how fast you can advance, so long as you advance in a logical and realistic way. Time progresses at a speed of a year per 25 posts. I call China, but the rest of the countries are up for grabs. You can choose your government type, economy, religion, etc. We'll start when we have an adequate amount of players. If you want to be a GM, just let me know!
