You're in a cafe/bar/furry convention/wherever you go for fun. This girl walks up to you and starts hitting on you, and eventually makes it clear that she wants to sleep with you. She's 17. In this hypothetical situation, you know for a fact that she won't tell anyone, and that you won't get caught. The only thing in your way is your conscience.

Do you do it?

Serious / Re: What are your thoughts on schools like this?
« on: January 10, 2015, 12:01:30 AM »
The point of school is to learn. Kids don't like learning, they like leisure. Schools like this just encourage the freeloading, lazy lifestyle 99% of kids would choose if they could. But it doesn't do any good for them any good when they grow up.

Long story short, school is supposed to be a drag. Otherwise, there would be no point.

Pretty good. My dealer is surprisingly dry tonight, but I was able to scrape some resin. Now all that's left to do is smoke and watch Family Guy. Then probably play some ORAS or Town of Salem.

Yeah, we are. Verbatim's first comment was referring to vegetarians in general.
only because i forgot that there were vegetarians that were vegetarian for the wrong reasons, not for the ethical reasons

so i was referring to ethical vegetarians, not... whatever, healthnut vegetarians or whatever
So trying not to die is the wrong reason. Gotcha.

You're not grasping what I'm saying. Sure, I could eat it. But I have no obligation to. Nor do I have any obligation to ensure it's consumed. If it ends up in the trash, that's the restaurant's fault.
Look, this view on its own would maybe be defensible, the point is that is contradicts the typical justifications for being vegetarian.  So if you make this argument and are also vegetarian your views are likely not internally consistent.

That's also why your analogy misses the point, unless you're vegetarian purely because you hate the taste of meat, in which case u crazy
My grandma is a vegetarian because her body can't metabolize animal fats or something like that.

I guess she should just eat an accidentally placed piece of pork if the restaurant gets her order wrong unless she wants to be a straight up idiot.
Then she is not a vegetarian on ethical grounds and why are you even pretending to argue about ethics
Because she has an ethical right not to eat it. We're talking about vegetarians in general.
No, we're not.
Yeah, we are. Verbatim's first comment was referring to vegetarians in general.

Look at it this way: if you hated the taste of a certain food, absolutely couldn't stand it, and some cafe gave you an extra helping of it, would you try to repress your gag reflex and scarf it down? Or would you be a normal, sane person and send it back?
if that "certain food" used to be sentient and was tortured and killed to end up on my tray, then yes, i'd either find someone who does want it, or i would eat it myself

because i'm ethical like that
Hmm, I guess you're just a better person than I am.

but you have the choice not to have it wasted

i mean... duh

give it to someone who wants it
make sure it gets consumed

doesn't sound very ethical to me

i mean, that's your right, but i'm just saying, if we're gonna talk about ethics, then yeah, the ethically correct decision would be not to waste the food
I disagree. If I go to a restaurant and order a vegetarian salad, my only ethical obligation is to eat that salad. If the restaurant messes up and gives me a whole slab of ribs, am I morally obligated to eat them, even though I've dedicated my life to doing the exact opposite?

No. If I send it back, I didn't waste the food. The restaurant did by sending me the wrong dish.

You aren't using your reading glasses right now.
if vegetarians think that it's ethical to waste the pain and suffering of whatever animal it took to get that piece of meat, then yes, vegetarians are idiots
The point is that they don't want meat in their bodies.

If they ordered a bunch of meat, and then refused to eat it, yes, that would be idiotic. But if the restaurant simply gives them the wrong order, why should they have the obligation to eat it? So they don't waste it? When a restaurant puts cheese on my hamburger, I send it fucking back. Am I an idiot for having a unique taste in food?

Point is, if a restaurant fucks up your order, any wasted food is on them. Not on you.

...then why did you say that a vegetarian that wouldn't eat an accidentally placed piece of meat is an idiot? For them, it's not an issue of wasting, it's an issue of ethics.
you aren't using your brain right now

eating an animal isn't inherently wrong

systematically torturing and slaughtering them for our use is wrong
it's the torture and the suffering of the sentient beings that makes the matter

whatever's left of them, it would be BEST to make GOOD USE of their remains--that's also the ethical decision, and most vegans will agree with that

by eating a piece of meat you were accidentally given in your meal, you aren't contributing to the industry
it's like you didn't even read the article
You aren't using your reading glasses right now.

Most vegetarians I know aren't just opposed to the meat industry, they're opposed to animal matter entering their bodies whatsoever.

This is so old and you should feel stupid for posting it.

Of course you wouldn't want to waste meat. It's fucking dead. So you BETTER eat it.

A vegetarian who would refuse to eat it isn't an asshole--he's a straight-up fucking idiot.
The better question: why do you care? People eat what they eat. Some people don't like eating animals. What's it to you?
