I've been a daily smoker for a while, and I'm pretty sure I'm just as sharp as when I started. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect
The fact that that concept exists doesn't mean that it applies to everyone who sees themselves as intelligent. Like, seriously, you use the Wikipedia link to that page as a weapon sooooo much.

It has a negative impact on cognition and academic performance. secondclass would probably contest that though
see? with his anecdotal evidence and everything
If it's been empirically proven beyond all doubt that weed makes you less intelligent, like most of you claim, then why did that evil herb's effects spare me?
class, i hate to do this
>tfw anecdote >tfw standard deviation >tfw unregulated psychoactives can affect different people differently
Guess I just got lucky, then.
It didn't affect me either. . .to my knowledge but I'm not a heavy user.
I've been a daily smoker for a while, and I'm pretty sure I'm just as sharp as when I started. I just took the SAT a year ago, and I'd been smoking for a long time before that. I can see how it might make others dumber, though. I do think, however, that a large part of why people see weed smokers as the "lazy, dumb stoner" archetype is because most people who smoke were lazy and dumb to begin with.

Anyone but Scott Walker would be fine. But if that fucking scumbag gets any kind of higher level of political power in this country, I'm leaving.

Not really. I smoked weed all throughout high school and got great ACT and SAT scores.

Depends how old they are. If my kid is 13 or 14 and I find him smoking, I'd be pretty angry. If he was 16 or 17, I wouldn't give a shit. why would it matter to you anyway why would you care even if they were 5
apparently it's completely harmless, so
I'd rather my kids learn what reality is before they begin the adventure of altering it.

I can't even argue about this anymore. We're both just parroting things that have already been said. You're thinking about this in the wrong light, and making waaaaaay too many generalizations. The simple fact of the matter is that you have, yes, a right to do whatever the hell you want to your own body. Why so many people on this forum and in this world have such a strong aversion to this basic fact is beyond me. So, yeah, not going to stress myself out anymore today by getting constantly reminded that people like you exist.

Haven't put much thought into it, but I suppose I'd try to be the ideal father - loving/interested normally, but not afraid to put punishments in place when something has been done wrong.
Would you let your kids smoke weed?

Would you smoke weed with your kids?
Yeah, maybe. I'd have to gauge whether or not they'd be cool about it, and obviously set up some strict ground rules about it first, though.

It's morally wrong.
I'm not finding the motivation to even continue this conversation, considering how pointless it is. You and I obviously just have vastly different views on morality. When you're born, the one, the only thing that you doubtlessly own is yourself. And you can do anything you want to yourself. Call me whatever you want, but that's a fucking human right in my eyes. When you use your possession to infringe on others, that's where the line of morality even begins. But no one - not an individual, not an authority, and not a morality system - can ethically dictate what someone can do to their own body. That effort is what's immoral in all of this.
You can be a prostitute all you like.
It's just not going to be legal and normalized and socially accepted. We need to move away from that and improve humanity. Girls that are prostitutes could be doctors.
Yeah, it is going to be legal. Did you just skim my post? It's immoral for the government to illegalize anything that you're just doing to yourself. And yeah, girls that are prostitutes could be doctors - but they fucking chose not to be. That's what so important in all of this. That's what we need to be protecting. If you force girls to be "dignified" and pressure them into pursuing fields they might not even want to go into, you're the one who's degrading them. And don't act like you just need to protect these hypothetical innocent, fragile girls who get wrongly snared up in this equally hypothetical vicious sex industry. I'm talking about legalization of it, which would eliminate any trace of abuse or coercion in the industry, since it will be brought out into the light and regulated. But none of that matters. The only thing that matters is what I've been saying this whole time. We can do whatever we want to ourselves. If I wanted to go out and mix up bleach and heroin and snort it, I should be legally able to do so. Because that's the only thing that we own, without a doubt. TVs can be stolen or sold. You will always own your body, and you have a human right to do whatever you want to it.

Prostitution is degrading to the family and to women in general. And men. It affects society in general. It affects the neighborhood. The whole country. Use your brain a little, bro.
Let me know when you grow up a little bit. Human rights is more important than uptight people getting angry. Any negative effects of prostituion would pretty much all be the standard effects of taboo breaking.
More like having a real and serious negative effect on the micro and macro economy as well as corrupting the minds of children.
But hey. This is a forum full of people with their heads stuck so far up their own ass they should have commercials advertising how much better their shit tastes compared to the other guy.
"OH LAWD THINK OF THE CHILDREN"
And yeah, I'm real sorry that you're stuck on this forum where people actually try to think about ways to progess society instead of living in this fearful 1950s-esque bubble that you do.
>cherryfondling this hard
Would you like to provide a rebuttal for the most important part of my post? Where prostitution is a real factor in driving down property and business value in a neighborhood and affects the country and a whole as that means more crime and more welfare in that neighborhood?
And children thinking selling their body is ok seems like a good idea to you? Teaching them dignity and honor is irrelevant, that valuing yourself and having self esteem is worthless?
Sure you're not smoking sherm sticks?
If prostitution is legalized in a gradual, safe, and smart way, none of those problems are even relevant. lol
Facts show otherwise.
Except for that last one, but I seriously doubt any kid is going to idolize hookers and make it their dream to become one. If that was a real threat, we'd outlaw being homeless, too.
Wat
No, facts show wise. Look at Australia. Thinking any kid's dream would be to grow up and become a hooker is just as dumb as thinking any kid's dream would be to grow up and become a hobo.

He considers Russia a bastion of morality in spite of the fact that men stand outside metro exits handing out catalogs of prostitutes. This is dumb. Russia definitely has its problems in terms of morality, but prostitution is not one of them.
Are you retarded?
Prostitution, in and of itself, isn't a bad thing. I don't know much about Russia's prostitution system, but to call out the industry itself as immoral is ridiculous. We have every right to do whatever the fuck we want to our bodies. The fact that this is an unpopular opinion is what's truly appalling.
Prostitution is wrong. Selling your body is wrong. Smoking crack is wrong.
You have the freedom to do whatever you want, but that doesn't mean everything is right. There's a difference.
Oh my god, the dumb hurts my brain. Morality is a human concept that governs our relationship between ourselves and other sentient creatures. Prostitution is a human concept.
In the absence of animals and non-consenting humans, nothing can be "wrong" or unethical. It's not wrong to kill yourself inhaling crack smoke?
If you somehow think that morality is tied to something beyond human/animal interaction, you're deluded.
You know, this proves me right.
Your point? So is modern celery. Which means it can be wrong or bad. Which it is. It's degrading and not a healthy way to live.
No. Wrong means immoral. And there's nothing you can do to your own body that's immoral, since there's consent involved. Damaging your body and/or dignity is wrong.
And no again.
Yup. Read it again.
Your interpretation of morality is too vain and arbitrary for us to have a real conversation here. Dignity/health aren't related to morality in any way whatsoever, by the way. Only consent is. Is what you're doing only going to directly affect you? Yes? Then it's impossible for it to be immoral. No? Then are the people you're affecting also on board with consent? Yes? Then it's impossible for it to be immoral. No? Then it is probably immoral.
