For me, the answer is quite plain... it's because I'm aware of the fact that there's other people on the planet, and they deserve to have a beautiful comfortable world to live in. No one is born "deserving" anything. All you deserve is what you personally achieve or obtain. Am I a paragon of virtue? Not exactly. If I was, I wouldn't be so angry. I wouldn't insult people so often. That's one of my character flaws. But you see, that's me having humility right there.
If I was like you, I couldn't rationally have any humility.
You're free to believe what you want, but frankly, I find it a little disgusting, and little bit sad. Because you're a reasonably intelligent person who could probably do a lot to help humanity. But apparently that's just too much of a drag.

Why does that necessitate that we all must live only for ourselves? To me, that only makes me want to live for others even more. The fact that we die makes me want to make life better for everyone. Because we're all "in it together".
It doesn't necessitate anything, it's just the most reasonable way to live. If your existence is all there is, why would you not want to stretch that out as long as possible? Why would you throw it away on someone else? I guess you're just a better person than I am. and I'm not even being glib there's cowardice and heroism, but heroes don't get to live in the better world they created. so what's the point of being one?
