Honestly, I apologize if I participated in a thread were Elegiac was told to kill himself over something like that. I can't say that I'm fond of him (or really anyone here, to be completely honest), but that doesn't mean that it's okay to tell someone who is obviously in need of help to kill himself. I'd appreciate it if I was called out on these things, I'm not fond of acting hypocritically.

Now, I don't think that all instances of "kill yourself" are used seriously. I don't think that Verbatim has ever honestly intended for someone to throw himself out of a window or to generally cause bodily harm. Likewise, if someone's told to end it because he said that he liked Twin Snakes more than the original MGS, it's clearly used as a sentence enhancer because they want to talk all fancy. The important thing is making it 100% clear that you do not intend the threat seriously in any form. This is one of a very select few instances where a black and white understanding is the only viable way to go about it other than blanket disdain.
Yeah, I'm not really referring to the whole kill yourself "meme" or whatever, but more in cases like Nexus to Saladin or Challenger to Elegiac.

Lol Naru because the obvious alternative to a lane for bikes is to make pedestrians and bikers share the sidewalk

can't think of anything that could go wrong there....

let me guess - you're for intersections over roundabouts, too
roundabouts are fucking retarded though
Are you 16? It's well-known that roundabouts do nothing but make traffic flow more smoothly.

Septagon / Re: Prefix idea - [Important]
« on: August 31, 2015, 06:08:11 PM »
I'd be able to make a workaround for something like that, yeah; but it's not a feature out of the box. The downside with temporary prefixes like that would be that they would disappear if you edited the OP after using up one of your allotted prefixes.
Ah, well that's the price to pay if you want an important thread, then. Once you make it, it's set in stone.
From what I've seen, most important threads usually get edited at least a few times.
[Important] prefixes don't necessarily mean that the thread is important, just that it's important enough to the user to make him use one of his allotted tags

and the fact that you can't edit it is just something to consider before you hit submit.

Well technically the FF creator made the movie which drove Square Soft into the ground. So they fired him and due to blowing so much money, had to merge with their rival company Enix. Bad blood with them.

As for Uematsu, he still gets brought on to do work with Final Fantasy, such as the MMO FF 14. Anyway, I'd like to play some games by them, but sadly they're for the Wii and I do not have such a device.

Edit: Actually, just The Last Story. Terra Battle is a mobile game which apparently sucks, but obviously if the soundtrack is composed by Uematsu, it's time to youtube some music.
Well, to be fair, the movie itself wasn't really bad in quality, it just didn't sell. I can't really fault the creator for something when that kind of thing happens. And yeah, MW games are pretty limited in terms of consoles...their earlier games were for Xbox, but now it looks like they're just going into mobile games.

I haven't played Terra Battle yet, but yeah, I hear it isn't great.

Moved this to septagon because I thought it might be better suited here. If it's supposed to be more of a comment towards the community in general (kind of like a PSA) just say so.
No, it's probably better suited here, tbh. More official and serious discussion can come of it.

Just pointing out that we did give chally a warning for doing that if you're referring to the mod side of things.
I actually wasn't aware of that, but I've definitely seen him do it more than once. The hypocrisy I mentioned in the OP has more to do with the forum in general than the mods, though. People's interpretation of the rules is completely dependent on the popularity of the user, as gats said.

When did it happen?
What context did it happen in?
Was it reported?

If you want something to be looked into, you gotta give us a little more information than that.
This isn't really an isolated incident as much as a recurring trend.

Gats didn't?
Did he?

Either way, all Chally says iirc is "Busy Road", yes >Implying, but there are no rules broken there.
Yeah, in the MGS megathread.

And implying it or not, it's still openly mocking something really personal and serious...

I find it pretty hypocritical that people freak out when nexus tells a suicidal person to kill himself, but when Chally and the others make a fucking joke out of Elegiac's suicide attempt, it's completely fine.

Not to suck anyone's dick here, but can this be like, changed?

Gaming / Re: Tropes vs. Women in Video Games: Women as Reward
« on: August 31, 2015, 04:22:09 PM »
There's a lot of sexism in our society, and while I'd consider this bad, of course, it's not nearly as important as things like employment discrimination and the gender pay gap.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy_of_relative_privation

I'm glad you can at least see where I'm coming from.
No, I definitely agree that sexism in video games is an important issue, but I just don't know why that's the thing that you choose to post a lot about. I mean, over-sexualization of women affects how society in the real world treats them, but I feel like there's an odd contrast there when you put it beside slut shaming. We love seeing nearly naked women in our shows and games, but in real life, we hate women who are sexually active. It makes no sense.

Obviously, you and I differ when it comes to how much of a bad thing being promiscuous is, but I think we can both agree that the double standard (of men who have a lot of sex being looked up to, while women are shamed for it) is ridiculous.

The Flood / Re: Why are we so sensitive to pain?
« on: August 31, 2015, 03:57:39 PM »
This is common sense
Jeez I don't know why you're so snippy today

And my reasoning is that if pain is a warning of sorts, and an animal is literally being eaten alive, they were already "warned". You'd just think that after millennia of evolution, there would be something like a body going numb in that kind of situation.

19138
The Flood / Why are we so sensitive to pain?
« on: August 31, 2015, 03:50:34 PM »
What evolutionary benefit is there? Why did mammalian nerve endings develop to the point where if a rabbit gets eaten by a fox, the rabbit is in excruciating, hellish pain? I know that pain is a "warning" of sorts, but why is the most common death in nature that painful?
