FF8 is much better than FF7, IMO. Not story-wise, obviously (8 has some pretty weak plotting), but in every other way.

but FF8 has some of the best music in the whole franchise. Deling City's theme Balamb Garden (literally the most serene FF song of all time) Fisherman's Horizon, of course Laguna's battle theme And I actually love Rinoa's theme, though others may disagree FFX has a lot of great music, as well. This is why the series has really paled in comparison to what it once was. No one SE has hired since Uematsu left has been able to match his brilliance in music composition.

Man o War is great. I have Rapid Fire/Long Barrel/Grip and it's a kickass medium-long range weapon. I used to have high caliber on it, too, which works great for close range.

Post-war is the entire point of Fallout
Also what the fuck would you even do in a pre-war Fallout?
Live in a family in the weeks leading up to the war, at the height of paranoia and national tensions. It would be much more story/choice driven and less about weapons. Of course, non-canonical endings would be available, which would add to the effect your character has on the world. With the amazing atmosphere of pre-war Fallout, I could see a game like that being very fun.
