The point is that if you let critical consensuses of movies impact your expectations of them, you're depriving yourself of that additional enjoyment from watching the movie. No SHIT. That's exactly what I was saying from the very start.
You ignore the hype, which is what I always do.
This dampens the experience, because you're looking at the film with a more objective, critical view.
