I retract that qualification

it just has to exist for you to be friends with it
people on the internet exist
lolno
so you don't exist?
the actual size of the internet is like 10% of the "users" on it

it was literally invented as a tool to keep the masses distracted

You could be friends with a ghost if they existed

because, you know, they exist

unlike people on the internet
but they're not tangible

you said they had to be tangible

are you legit trying to say that people irl don't exist
um, no

i'm making the point that tangibility doesn't and shouldn't matter when it comes to having friends

if ghosts were real, could you not be friends with a ghost? because ghosts are intangible, right

you're so dumb lmao

People in real life are real so no
Are they though? Some of those people are the fakest I've ever met.
they are tangible and real
"here are some adjectives that i think help my point somehow"

I never thought I'd have to explain this to someone

Nope

They were artificial and manufactured
buzzy buzzwords

Manufactured by who? What company developed this software called "Verb and Verb's Friend"?
Manufactured by your own need for acceptance
Oh, you mean like in real life?

Those are fake experiences. They're not real.
Define "fake" and define "real," and explain why I should care.
Real is stuff that happened

Fake is stuff that didn't happen
Okay, great.

100% of the activities I've done with my Internet buddies happened.
Nope

The Internet is just a medium for people to connect with each other. Doesn't make it any less real.
It's artificial, no different than thinking cleverbot is your friend

Convos on the internet didn't even happen

Someone close that you share experiences with, and not fake invented ones.
Chats are experiences. Especially the deeper, philosophical, personal ones.
Playing video games online is an experience.
Watching movies is an experience.

They're not "active," but that doesn't make it an experience.

You're someone who values more active experiences, like going to Chili's, going to the park, and other bullshit like that.

To me, that's all auxiliary. That's unnecessary. That's all fake and invented--no less than the Internet is. You can have  a deep, intimate, personal relationship with someone just by talking with them. Anyone who needs more than that is a shallow cunt, you shallow cunt.

I'm not saying it isn't nice to have dinner with friends every once in awhile. I'd probably really enjoy meeting a lot of my Internet friends in person. A lot of them are riddled with anxiety, though, and would rather we maintain our interactions through text, and I respect that. Doesn't mean we're not friends, and it doesn't mean we can't treat each other like friends.

I don't need someone like you on the Internet to tell me that my relationships with these people mean nothing, because they do mean something. Now that you've gone far enough to say that even my PHYSICAL friendships aren't real friendships, now I can officially throw your entire outlook on this subject into the shredder.

By all means--Don't try to build meaningful relationships on the Internet. But don't tell anyone that they can't, just because you personally find the concept stupid. I don't give a fuck.
Those are fake experiences. They're not real.

I find it kind of funny that this excuse is always used as damage control itself when people get trolled now.
"Ha, we weren't fooled, you were being serious the whole time!"
I've seen this countless times.

That's not to say that this was necessarily a "troll", more just saying unjustifiably idiotic opinions to get people to respond.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but I've seriously never been more confident about it until now.

Even if he really was trolling, it's still damage control. You're not supposed to admit your "ruse" the moment you start looking really bad, and everyone's starting to gang up on you. Otherwise, it kinda just looks like you're trying to save face.

But if I don't admit my ruse, everyone is going to think I was serious.

Which is it Verbatim? Come out clean and say that its fake or have everyone on the site think you're some kind of cunt because of it?
The whole point is to make people think you're serious. When everyone starts getting pissy at you, you keep ramping it up until they're legit angry.

Its hard because I was about to lose some friends over it.
>internet "friends"

I met a friend on the internet in real life.

Explain this bullshit
Hanging out with someone once doesn't make you friends

it barely makes you acquaintances

Right, so someone I've known for 3 years online, even though we had the same laughs and experiences in real life outside, it barely makes us acquaintances.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
Yeah, you've never even chilled with him, man

All of those laughs and experiences were artificial. They weren't in real life.

Her*

And they're a hell of a lot more real than trying to have a fucking conversation with cleverbot
Cleverbot and your little e-friend are on the same level

Then you're no different from the rest here, Cleverbot.
Now you're getting it

Okay Carson. What is your definition of a friend? I'll be sure to throw it straight into the bin.
Someone close that you share experiences with, and not fake invented ones.

The physicality is important because otherwise, you're just talking to someone through text. You're not having an experience, you're having a chat.

I have seen some of them. Skype has a video feature.

Even if I haven't seem them, why the fuck do I HAVE to?

What is so goddamn important about the physicality of it? Answer me.
But you're just seeing a video of him, you're not actually seeing him. The physicality is important because otherwise, you're just talking to someone through text. You're not having an experience, you're having a chat.
