People actually give this loudmouth attention whore cunt money?
Fortunately.

There's nothing wrong with doing this, and it's completely irrelevant anyway.

She doesn't make a single dime from any of her videos. She makes her money through donations alone.

Does this mean Robin has been objectified?

He didn't wear pants and had those pixie slippers for a long damn time.
He's been adapted so many times, you'd have to be more specific, but in general, he doesn't really have any masculine features to exploit, does he?

Chris O'Donnell's interpretation is probably the best example. Robin nipples and everything.

Objectification is a strong word, though, and refers to characters that don't have any character. Just sex appeal.

If her point is not to prove the influence of treatment of women in games - what is she trying to do?
I made it a point to describe exactly what she's trying to do twice in that post.

She's giving a critical examination of the portrayal of women in video games while citing examples of tropes she considers to be perniciously sexist. She then offers various solutions to make the industry treat female characters with greater care, and not just as toys for male gamers to play with.

Even if she were saying that games make people sexist, who fucking cares? We already know that they don't. That doesn't mean there's nothing else to take away from her videos.

Quote
Also, I believe she said "Directly reinforcing negative ways of thinking about the dynamics between men and women in our society."
So we are meant to understand that all she is doing is saying that games are a realistic representation of our society?
No, and if that were true, she would probably argue that it's a deeply unoriginal thing to do.

Quote
"games reinforce negative stereotypes of women"

If you are sexist, do you think having games which reinforce positive stereotypes of women, would convert you? Would it make your sexism more mild?
No. Stereotypes in general should be avoided, regardless of whether they're positive or negative.

Quote
If she claims that games have no effect, other than just satisfying sexists, would it not be more productive to spend half a million on figuring out the source of sexism?
What would changing games achieve?
We already know the source of sexism. The gaming population is predominantly male, so the industry tends to cater to that demographic exclusively. But as many games have shown, female characters can be strong, modest, and fleshed out. There's just not enough of them to satisfy feminists.

As a HIGHLY respected historian in my academic circle (I don't want to brag, but my history professor has given me two perfect grades this semester), I thought I'd have the magnanimity to opine on this issue, but it seems my esteemed colleagues here have already done so for me. Boy, am I sure glad to be surrounded by such scholarly fellows who can match my historical acumen. :)

I don't really think I have any. I like movies, and then I like them less and less the more I watch them. If a movie is garbage, I don't typically give it another chance, because the things I don't like about it are sort of integral to the film itself.

Turkey questioned my lack of appreciation for the Cabin in the Woods the other day, so I decided to watch it again with a new perspective—ie. not as a love letter to/deconstruction of horror, but as whatever he said it was supposed to be (to be honest, I don't understand what it's supposed to be if not a critical satire)—and I just ended up disliking it even more. Really tedious and poorly-executed movie through and through—but this is Joss Whedon we're talking about.

8860
She misrepresented the Hitman sequence - you are not rewarded for killing the strippers, you are penalised fro doing so.
I already mentioned this, and I chalk it up to the simple fact that not every point she makes is going to be a home run. I still haven't played the game myself and probably never will, so the subject bores me.
Quote
In watchdogs - the mission she showed is about shutting down a sex trafficking ring, but she presented it like it was a strip club or something.
Are you talking about this video? Watch Dogs is another game I haven't played, but it was also only one game (briefly) mentioned in a montage of about 10-15 examples of games with strip clubs, brothels, etc. in them. You're gonna have to refute every single example in order for me not to completely disregard your point, because that's what I'm doing right now.

I'll let this guy speak for the rest.
YouTube
>Thunderfoot

God, I fucking hate this retard.

0:16 - Okay, so he starts off the video by claiming that Anita is trying to, quote, "teach people how they interact with other people in the real world." This is false, and his own clip disproves that. What she says is, "When games such as these award players with achievements or trophies for sexual conquest, they're directly reinforcing negative ways of thinking about the dynamics between men and women in our society."

Reinforcement of negative ideas does not come anywhere close to tutelage. She never claimed that games are teaching gamers to be sexist. She claims that games exhibit sexist tropes, and thus reinforce sexist ideas, regardless of whether may make anyone sexist.

0:40 - He then uses his tenuous strawman as a corollary for his next little gem, sarcastically implying that men are objectified in deathmatch games, because you predominantly kill male characters—and this, in turn, by his interpretation of Anita's logic, somehow encourages violence against men. Again, this is bullshit. The entire fucking point of deathmatch is to kill players, regardless of who or what they are. The reason feminists don't consider this "objectification" is because the masculinity of these male characters is not being exploited, generally speaking. There is no underlying message of "men are objects," whereas games that feature sexualized women and reward players for exploiting them do have an underlying message of "women are just objects." This isn't complicated.

1:46 - Lots of sanctimonious rambling about boring shit—yes, pull up all the academic studies you want that suggest that games don't make people sexist all you want. It doesn't matter, because that was never the argument being made. As for Anita's stint with teleseminars, here is my response.

3:04 - Phil claims, based on his interpretation of her logic, that if video games make you more sexist (which, they don't, and nobody has ever claimed that they do), and if Anita herself has played thousands of hours of games, then she is, by virtue, "the most sexist of all." This is a prize-winningly stupid interpretation of the following statement by Anita: "Paradoxically, and somewhat ironically, those who most strongly believe that media is just harmless entertainment are also the ones most likely to uncritically internalize harmful media messages. In short, the more you think you cannot be affected, the more likely you are to be affected." What she is saying here is quite simple—if you believe media is just harmless entertainment, you will not hold media up to critical scrutiny, and you are therefore more susceptible to the harm that media can incur. The reason Anita herself isn't "affected" is because she doesn't believe that media is just harmless entertainment. She considers herself a critic, so she holds media to critical scrutiny. Again, this isn't difficult. I can't believe Thunderfoot has a fucking ph.D.

4:09 - The rest of the video from this point forward is just boring, unentertaining nonsense born out of this retarded strawman notion that games make people sexist. Once more, they don't, and no such argument has ever been made by Anita. The closest thing she's ever said to that would probably be that games reinforce negative stereotypes of women, which is a fact. How male gamers respond to this is irrelevant. Men tend to be sexist enough on their own, and they don't need games to teach them to be sexist—they pretty much already are. So I'd probably argue that it's not games that make people sexist; men just tend to be sexist by default, and games inladen with sexist tropes are simply made for these sexists.

That was an absolutely retarded video and a complete waste of my time.

Never link me a Thunderfoot video again.

9:00 - Here, Phil attempts to make fun of Anita by implying that she's contradicting herself. She cites Jade, the protagonist from Beyond Good & Evil, as a "warm, compassionate, multi-talented character who has realistic and relatable concerns." Phil then cuts to a moment where Anita describes her mission in the game, which involves aliens and conspiracy, implying that a game with aliens in it cannot have relatable or realistic characters. When they, in fact, can. Fuck you, Phil.

Then again, most of those guys are probably sexually active to make up for that. I dunno, I just wanna see proof I guess.
To my knowledge, it's not so much that bad shit will happen if you don't (your body should compensate for the build-up), but that good stuff is more likely to happen if you do. Ejaculating regularly has been linked to lower rates of prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction. Frequent orgasms are also thought to help prevent heart disease, improve sleep quality and serve as a mild anti-depressant / de-stressor. As always, correlation does not equal causation, but there seems to be a decent amount of research out there in its favor and almost nothing finding it's bad.

Yeah, I'm aware of the benefits, but I'm just not really sure it's worth losing upwards of an hour of my day just to receive them (an hour that could be spent playing Dark Souls). I'm content with indulging every month or so, but I don't particularly enjoy it enough to make it the habit it used to be for me.

it takes me around 45 minutes yeah
Why?
idfk dude

most porn bores me, it takes me awhile for something to really get me off
thats why you construct your own mental fantasies and images ya dingnut
that doesn't work for me at all

part of the appeal of sex is the element of surprise, or the excitement of being in a situation that you weren't expecting--and imagining stuff kinda directly contradicts that

i'm the kind of guy who sits through casting couch interviews, because i need that context for it to be hot

so that increases the time wasted to about 2 hours, and overall it's just a colossal waste of life
What the heck is a casting couch interview?
videos where girls act like they're being auditioned for a porn shoot

she sits on a couch for twenty minutes as a dude puts a camera in her face and interviews her--"what's your name," "how old are you," "what are you doing here," "what do you do for a living," "what's your favorite position," "do you enjoy getting fucked on camera," etc.

and then they start fucking

getting to know the person before watching them get fucked makes it a little bit hotter
I don't want to judge but LOL
it's a pretty popular type of porn to watch, and that's just one example

Uhm.
Dick is hot, and everyone like it.

It's like boobs.
The social stigma about touching other dude's dicks is the only thing that keeps guys from doing the same as girls do with each other's boobs, but they certainly spend plenty of time playing with their own dicks, even in a non-sexual manner.
I stopped playing with my dick over a year ago because I realized how disgusting (and time wasting) it is.
you really should masturbate at least once a month dude there some bad things that can happen if you don't
Yeah I know, I last rubbed one out a few weeks ago because I heard horror stories about build-up and shit. I won't do it habitually, though. Fuck that.

Then again, I don't know how true those stories are, because there are tons of people who don't masturbate at all for their whole lives (or at least, they claim not to) and they don't seem to have any problems whatsoever.

I only skimmed the post but I'm not really seeing where the sexism comes in. This seems like a general critique of having support characters in a game which then supposedly becomes sexist when it happens to be a woman instead of a man.
Quote
I understand why some wouldn't like this mechanic, but just because the supporting character happens to be a woman does not make it sexist when she isn't put in that position because of her being a woman. Replace Elizabeth in Bioshock with a young man who has never left his room, doesn't know how to fight, avoids violence and has never seen the outside world, and the game and his interactions with Booker would've played out the exact same way.
See Turkey's post; this is addressed in her essay.

Again, I haven't played Bioshock Infinite, so I can't fairly comment on it, but your relatively exhaustive(?) list of defenses for Elizabeth's particular case draws a little bit of skepticism from me. It comes across like you're protesting too much. Either way, she is only one example out of the several she cited in her little montage.
