posts like this are just so amazing
the thing is, you could send zen the exact same message without changing a single word (except the part about azula i guess) and it would make even more sense

tbh I'm like the opposite of Class

I just want people to like me (not love, that's too much tbh), while Class likes being put down

<3 u tho
i'm sure you realize, it would be a lot easier for people to like you if you were less reluctant to make friends over the internet, right
It's not that I'm reluctant, I just don't believe that friendship is possible solely through electronic means. The closest one can be is "someone I like", or "an associate". While those terms are somewhat derogatory for someone you've spoken to face-to-face, it's one of the highest honers that one who isn't known personally can have.
just could never agree with this perspective, considering how much closer i am to my internet friends than i am to my in-person friends

not to throw them under the bus or anything, but over the years i've only become more and more detached from them—the barriers we put up on the internet are ultimately no different from the barriers we put up in the physical world

lately, i feel like i know my in-person friends less and less the more i talk to them

i've seen movies with some extremely morally repugnant characters in them, but i still like them, because their charisma is not based in the character's personality or actions, but with the actor's own ability to play the role so well
So what you're saying is that you watch films and tv literally wrong

"Wrong" in the sense that the goal of any story - to be so invested in it, you can't separate it from the truth - is being consciously violated. For the purpose of...what? Indulging in the "behind the scenes" unnecessary? If an actor's motivations or life are being thought of while you're watching something, the entire point of the medium has failed.
shockingly enough i don't think you understood what i said

part of a film's quality is how well the actors portray the characters, yes

most unlikable character ever is noah cross btw, intentionally so
if they're intentionally unlikable then that means they're actually likable
makes literally negative sense
a good actor can play an evil character in a really charismatic way

charismatic means you like their character while simultaneously rooting against them because you know they're bad

basic basic basic basic shit
That's what I'm saying - Noah Cross is no Frank Underwood. He has no charisma, and is literally impossible to like in every scene he's in. You never sympathize with him or understand his delusional, probably made-up worldview. He's pretty much the embodiment of evil, but was intentionally written that way, obviously (as he's a villain). All I'm saying is that he's probably the most unlikable character in film/TV history
i mean i've never seen him in action so i guess i can't have any idea, but

i've seen movies with some extremely morally repugnant characters in them, but i still like them, because their charisma is not based in the character's personality or actions, but with the actor's own ability to play the role so well

take bruno ganz's performance as hitler in the movie der untergang, for example

when i say unlikable, i'm talking about characters that fail to move the audience in any intended way—characters who aren't funny when they're supposed to be funny, and suchlike

also that best part of Ron Swanson is that Nick Offerman is almost the exact opposite as him politically

it helps him more perfectly portray the stereotypical libertarian
really? it was my understanding that nick offerman shared many of ron's opinions on things

why don't you watch something cool like house of cards or narcos
HOC is so overindulgent and not nearly as smart as it pretends to be - pretty much Dexter with politics
i do not take your opinions on tv shows seriously

I found out when
Spoiler
my mother wiki'd it halfway through S1 and told me

It's very obvious from the S5 trailer that played on the Netflix homepage, but I still hate that got spoiled.

I also own an

shirt, and I love it
your mother seems to do that a lot, lol

i remember you saying she ruined gone girl for you too (which you should still see)

I do watch House of Cards lol, why wouldn't I

Only on S3 tho, I want to pace myself
oh okay, you're ahead of me

when my friend had me watch the first episode, we were just beginning to watch it, when he blurts this out:
Spoiler
"i don't wanna spoil anything but kevin spacey becomes POTUS"

i should've reacted more strongly because he needs to know how NOT OKAY that is

right, it's a good thing but it doesn't create the positive sensations typically associated with happiness is my point

why would you bet someone with a cozy life would be less depressed than you
poor phrasing

depression is a mental condition that should probably be considered separate from someone's overall quality of life and their satisfaction with it, because it can occur in any person regardless of how awesome their life is

8278
The Flood / Re: Should Trump be allowed to resign?
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:02:05 AM »
my point of contention is that no one derives happiness from a lack of suffering, or that realision that they could be suffering

why would you bet that
i would argue that it isn't even relevant whether someone derives happiness from a lack of suffering, because a lack of suffering in and of itself is an objectively positive thing, whether it's appreciated or not

this is a fundamental premise in benatar's asymmetry

The Flood / Re: Should Trump be allowed to resign?
« on: June 11, 2017, 12:55:53 AM »
that fact makes you happy?
not happy per se, but i definitely feel "better" about my position in life

i want future generations to feel the same way, but at the same time, i don't want to take away their right to feel discontent about whatever boring problems they'll have

because my problems, comparatively speaking, are boring—but i'm starkly aware of how much happier i could be, and that's the frustrating thing

and this is where i lack perspective, because i can't prove to you that someone with a cozy life is going to be less depressed than i am—but i'm willing to bet that they would
