The Flood / Re: give me advice 4chan didnt

I don't know exactly, it's hard to actually quantify and grade negative experiences

maybe the first time I was molested as a kid, or some other example of abuse from my childhood

adulthood has been tough, and I've had nowhere to live and nothing to eat more than once, I've been to jail for things I did and did not do, though the only time it was something I actually did I was stealing food from the supermarket

the town I found myself living on the streets of after high school wasn't big, and they didn't have resources for feeding the homeless or shelters for those other than battered women, it still has a big homelessness problem today

my dad sued me for eviction when I was 18. I was still in high school. I posted about it on here five years ago, and that has definitely led to a life that was not easy to get off on the right foot in

that's actually how I found myself trading sex for a place to live

I've been robbed and taken advantage of loads of times, but I really think that whatever the absolute worst thing is, it has to have been in my childhood

as an adult, at least I have options for recourse and a complete understanding of what's going on
not that i know the whole story or anything, but i wonder if your dad has any concept of how fucking much he sucks

tbh I'm not really sure what the question is
how would you cope with being an unwilling sex slave if your life depended on it
thanks for clarifying

just move forward?

I was in this exact situation like two years ago. I saved like a grand, packed my shit, and left while nobody was watching.

I try not to think about it, and I don't think it really gives me any trouble.

Then again, that's not the worst thing that has ever happened to me by far, so I'm not sure how the average person would cope.
what's the worst thing

Japanese voices are more annoying than American voices especially the women
you're not wrong, but hearing anime dialogue in english also tends to bring attention to how cheesy and stupid it is

756
why impose yourself to listening to this jarring language that you can't understand
well, the performances are generally better, and even if they weren't, it just seems "right" to experience foreign media in the language that it was created in—for me, it just makes the experience more authentic

i get it though, having to read subtitles can be a pain in the ass—i used to hate it

detestable personality + all you ever talk about is your pathetic joke of a life

pretty simple

if you wouldn't actually use this dumb bitch who you tricked into liking you for her money, then why exactly were you bragging about it so much
My personality is the best part about me. Why do you think I have a cult of personality around me? I was bragging about the fact that I get to be rich - in like 10-20 years. I NEVER tricked anyone. I loved her and asked her out long before I knew about her wealth. You're just an envious, sad, sick, person. I'm a better antinatalist than you.
watch every episode of evangelion on netflix (including the movie) and review each one, and then i'll start liking you
If that's actually what it takes then I'll start tonight, no fucking joke dude
do whatever you want sub/dub-wise, but subs will always be preferred

No.

I refuse to believe they changed the dialogue from "Congratulations!"
nah

in the new subs, everyone says "congratulations" except kensuke and toji, who say "congrats bro!" and "way to go, man!" respectively, which is accurate to the japanese audio, in which they say things other than "omedetou" anyway

in the new dub, everyone says congratulations except for toji, who says "congrats bro!"

so it's basically the same dumbass scene, don't worry

I AM REAL VERBATIM

I AM NOT AN ARG

holy fucking SHIT
don't you wish though

i sure do

762
would a death or two be too much to ask for the next chapter of this fake ARG because that would really spice things up for sure

i'm already getting some american psycho vibes during this current arc, so you might as well follow through

763
the staff
if that's the case, i think that's unfortunate, because if something is broken, the patrons are going to be the first to notice, and staff can't always respond in a timely fashion

i don't generally see staff floating around vending machines, either, so it's not like i could easily notify somebody if i wanted to

that's a lot of potentially wasted quarters

764
Verbatim, what?
if you don't need any authorization, i wonder if anyone has ever gotten in trouble for placing "out of order" signs on a bunch of shit that wasn't actually out of order

765
if anyone can place them, then would i be morally obligated to place an "out of order" sign on a vending machine if it malfunctions after just one try?

if not, how many times do i have to keep trying before i can be sure it's broken? is there some other way to know

766
The Flood / who's job is it to place "out of order" signs on things
« on: May 12, 2020, 05:28:28 PM »
is it someone's job to do that, like a janitor or something?

or are they just placed by some random good samaritan? if so, do you need somebody's permission first?

i've never seen somebody actually place one before, and i've always wondered

Can someone explain Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2O49 because I really don't understand how people love them so much
basically started cyberpunk, which a lot of people think is the coolest aesthetic in the world—you either get it, or you don't

one of the earliest movies to ask questions like "at what point do robots become people," which are somewhat passe now, but were very thought-provoking at the time

has great performances, great writing, cool cinematography, cool atmosphere, and overall rock-solid film-making

took me more than a couple of watches to really appreciate it, and i still think it's a tad overrated, but it's still a really cool movie

i have a lot of catching up to do, so don't take this at all seriously

Seemed-pretty-great tier:

2014 - Gone Girl, Nightcrawler, Birdman, Whiplash, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Lego Movie
2015 - The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Hateful Eight, Sicario, The Force Awakens
2010 - The Social Network, Black Swan, Scott Pilgrim, Inception, 127 Hours, Deathly Hallows Part 1, pre-cynic Toy Story 3

Seemed-pretty-solid tier:

2012 - Wreck-It Ralph, The Avengers, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Chronicle, Project X (viewed as social commentary)
2017 - The Last Jedi, Blade Runner 2049, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Seemed-pretty-meh tier:

2013 - The Wolf of Wall Street, Prisoners, Under the Skin
2019 - Parasite, Joker
2011 - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Deathly Hallows Part 2

Wait-really?-That's-it? tier:

2018 - Infinity War
2016 - Uhhhhhhhhh... Split?

from what i've seen, Gone Girl is probably my favorite movie of the past decade; The Revenant is pretty close

Kinda surprised in the apparent lack of interest in Control here.
Honestly this thread was the first time I'd heard about it. So I don't really have anything to say on it for better or worse.
It's heavily inspired by the SCP Foundation, and I seem to recall a lot of Bnet people being into that stuff.

Not necessarily you, I guess, but yeah.

a simple "happy mother's day" should do like always

773
Or you could use the established term "ethnic/racial minorities" when stating the need for greater representation.
that's another option, albeit a more clinical and less personal one
Certainly a lot less political and also more all-encompassing, since as I mentioned PoC seems mostly aimed at black people and other groups seem more of an after thought. I see black and PoC used pretty interchangeably.
either we've had very different experiences, or i'm just very literal-minded, but i've personally never seen the term used only to refer to black people

even then, if PoC can be corrupted in this way, i'm not seeing why "racial minorities" couldn't be as well

Ironic, I have told my friends repeatedly that the only way I would buy a Switch is if they put some meme/joke character (like Goku) in Smash.
joker didn't sell you?

778
I suppose, but it definitely seems like it can be a double edged sword to me used by people who want to completely separate whites from all other races in any and all contexts.

I guess there will always just be people who will take virtually anything and try to use it in a negative or counterproductive way.
yeah, it's no more of a double-edged sword than any other descriptive terms that we could use

so let's be more concerned about what people actually do to each other rather than how we describe each other

779
But what is the utility of putting all other races into a single category separate from whites instead of just viewing each one as their individual race? That seems very weird to me.
for those contexts in which referring to non-white races collectively would be convenient, especially when whites are a majority

"black people need more representation in government" is one statement
"asian people need more representation in government" is another
"indigenous people need more representation in government" is yet another

you could say these one at a time if you wanted, or you could save time with a catch-all term such as "people of color"
