Used to hate it more than anything (seriously), but I took a couple classes, and not only have I found that I'm not too bad at it, I also consider it kind of fun. I like being on a soapbox.
My problem was that in school, you were always forced into giving presentations on subjects you only have a passing interest in. When I have the freedom to discuss what I want to discuss, it's pretty cool introducing people to new ideas, or just being an informant on a subject you're passionate about.
I also used to fear flubbing my speech in front of everybody, but that's why I took classes for it. I'm not a natural, but practicing in front of a mirror, understanding the material you're presenting, and being prepared to answer any questions people may have are all things you should probably be taking care of if not already.
