like, developers don't give a fuck about your kids, and they probably shouldn't be obliged to
i think it's fine for a separate organization to handle that independently

Why do we need the ESRB rating system anyway
Can't developers just use their own discretion based on the standard set by the ESRB?
what do you mean
you think developers should rate their own games, or
yeah
i mean games have been around long enough that we know what constitutes "M" and "T"
the ESRB kinda exists because devs and publishers were exploiting the fact that there wasn't any kind of rating body and the industry didn't want the government to step in and regulate it for them
How could they exploit it? I dunno I'm not really the kind of person to even acknowledge the ESRB rating so I've never seen its merit.
by having gratuitously violent or sexual content during a period where video games were often looked upon as children's toys they're not children's toys anymore, but given that games are still heavily enjoyed by young people, i'd say it's perfectly reasonable for parents to be concerned about what kinds of games their children are playing it's kind of an odd thing to take issue with

and just to dispel the notion that i'm only rallying against nier because i hate weebs: i would nominate persona 5 before nier
there you go, 6-7 games that are more worthy of GOTY than nier: automata is

nier isn't even in the top 5 games this year, sorry
i haven't played it beyond the demo, but i can just tell by the way it is that it's the weeb game that every weeb says is the best game ever because they're weebs (along with persona 5)
i mean, it's not a mind blowing game by any means but i can't really see any good reason why PUBG or Horizon Zero Dawn are more deserving of consideration
we all know this year is a competition between two nintendo products so it's not a huge deal.
pubg shouldn't be on there, yeah, but only because it hasn't been officially released if it were, then i wouldn't argue against it hzd deserves the nomination, and i think you could make a case for sonic mania or samus returns (not to win, obviously, but i think they deserve the recognition that a nomination would give them) the only people who think nier should've been nominated are people who are already crazy nier fans who shit sperm the moment they see anything japanese (unless it's nintendo), because that's what weebs do

It's one thing to be blunt, it's another to be an aggressive arrogant flippant naive little kid.
how does it feel to be less intelligent than this aggressive arrogant flippant naïve little kid

I would have said the "anime" label pertains a number of themes/tropes/cliches found in a great deal of Japanese media, and thus some American animation could be considered and anime (likewise, some Japanese animation could "transcend" anime.)
"anime-esque" or "anime-inspired" is as far as i'd go with that tbh the reason the definition is so restrictive is because it makes it easier to draw a line in the sand between what's anime and what isn't, whereas your definition kinda makes it a little bit foggier and less clear-cut that said, even if we were to go with that standard, i would argue that, overall, Avatar: TLA's characters, themes, sense of humor, and even its sense of pacing are far more western than eastern—the only thing that's really anime-esque about it is the artstyle it's kinda like calling star wars a work of science fiction (rather than fantasy), just because it takes place in space and borrows some elements from that genre

Does the last airbender count as anime
nope
wasn't made by a japanese studio
if it were an anime, it would be my favorite
So it has to be Japanese to be considered anime
basically the word "anime" literally just means "animation" in japan, so in their tongue, everything is an "anime" there's some debate about the stipulations, which is why some people opt to say "japanese animation" if you want to be crystal clear

I just watched Grave of the Fireflies.
And just before that, I watched The Road.
I need a hug.
Why would you do that to yourself? The Road alone is tough to watch.
he was inspired by my patrician taste
The Road or grave?
this is the anime thread isn't it
Watching anime is the road to an early grave.
ironically, this is the only way to make watching anime sound appealing
Pro Tip: Watch SAO multiple times, it really boosts those suicidal thoughts.
oh, i'll get to that eventually watch it unironically become my favorite anime

Verb, what's your opinion on that one anime where the young man living in the idyllic fishing village discovers he has mystical powers right before a demon/warlord attacks and kills everyone in his village forcing him to go on a quest to fight said demon/warlord while meeting friends who have similar, but weaker powers than him. Then said friends sacrafice themselves forcing him to realize he's the most powerful before vanquishing the demon/warlord.
no idea what you're referring to

honestly, i should've just posted "you've never experienced voluntary celibacy, so that's why you don't understand it," but i'm pretty sure the irony would've been lost on most of you anyway
basically you're all dipshits

You failed to substantiate why my reasons for it not being pointless to me were wrong and have done little more than give highly subjective value statements on why sex is so bad and all these alternatives are so much better. Don't go pretend now that this was all I said just because I'm not interested in keeping up with this discussion any longer.
it pretty much was all that you said, though I think you underestimate how important that kind of intimacy can be for bonding, building trust and maintaining a healthy relationship. If you've never experienced this, it's near impossible to really understand. this is basically the crux of your last response, and it's complete nonsense it's not impossible for me to understand at all, and in fact, i probably understand it more than you

failure to engage in a little bit of self-awareness is a tell-tale sign of lower intelligence, because you're living your life on autopilot
meanwhile, i spend all day and night thinking about this stuff
so whenever someone says anything like, "you wouldn't understand, because you've never had the experience," the hilarious thing is, 99 times out of 100, they're ALWAYS wrong—because i'd eventually go on to experience whatever it is i haven't experienced, and it winds up being EXACTLY how i thought it would be, every single time
it's almost like you don't actually need to experience anything in order to understand whether it has any real purpose
it's almost like i can simply observe shit and make judgment calls based off of those observations
if the value of something cannot be observed or even described in words, then it probably has no value at all—"get laid and then come back to me" is the most childish cop-out rebuttal you could possibly make

"i'm finding it difficult to bond with my girlfriend because she hasn't touched my peepee in a long time"
"i'm having trust issues with my wife because she doesn't let me touch her fatty round parts anymore"
"oh no white stuff hasn't come out of my penis in like two days i've lost control of my relationship i want to die"
you're right, i have absolutely no fucking idea what being that pathetic is like, and i NEVER want to know
Ignoring biological urges does not equal intellectual maturity exactly. You're partaking in suppression of your desires, which, generally will surface at some point down the road in some form. I don't think you have some moral high ground because you don't like the idea of a girl stimulating your peepee.
it's not a moral high ground, it's an intellectual one
and it's not that i don't like the idea—i love the idea
but i hate being in the body of an organism who actually enjoys such stupid shit
Do you believe that the mind and the brain are separate?
kind of? but not really, i'm just engaging in meta-analysis of my own behavior and human behavior as a whole it's more that i recognize that the brain has multiple departments designated for separate functions, and not all of these functions are necessary or even good in fact, some of these functions are toxic, and we're better off without them the functions i'm interested in keeping are the functions that separate us from wild animals—mainly, our enhanced ability to think, reason, judge, communicate

Cromartie High School is funny. Low budget in the best way, 26eps running 12 minutes each. Also had a dub that aired on G4.
g4 aired anime?

Better add SuperStar Saga and Paper Mario when you're done playing them boy 😏

the reviews for ultra sumo are out The progression, both story and gameplay-wise, is pretty indistinguishable from Sun and Moon (aside from the occasional interjection from the Ultra Recon Squad) up until the plot climax about 25 hours in.
[...]
As a returning player, it was a bit disappointing to experience so much sameness for so long, but once it finally happened the change in the story was worth it. And, despite how ridiculous it is, this version is still better told and more cohesive than the original story in Sun and Moon. sigh who else is /notgettingthisgame/ here
