My dad found the collector's edition of Final Fantasy XIII-2 the other day, which has a nice case and the complete soundtrack which is split across three separate CDs.

it'll be a billion years before i play that game, though

i will play this stupid thing, but on one condition

does the game have ANY appeal whatsoever outside of shock value, or the fact that it has twists in the plot

you are only eligible to answer this question if you do not tend to enjoy anime or anime-inspired media

drift drift drift, literally whenever possible and for as long as possible

let bananas hang behind you for protection, never toss them forward because they're that shitty

don't get flustered when you're hit with a barrage of items, it's part of the game and it's happening to everyone else too

if you get a mushroom, never miss an opportunity to blast through offroad paths with it for little shortcuts

top 8

Winners:
MOV (Chun-Li) vs. John Takeuchi (Rashid)
Infiltration (Menat) vs. Humanbomb (Chun-Li)

Losers:
Tokido (Akuma) vs. StormKubo (Abigail)
Itabashi Zangief (Zangief) vs. Daigo (Guile)

really hope daigo takes it, that would make my relatively shitty weekend

gonna have to be up at 4:00 AM to catch it, though

My run today pretty much immediately hit a road block when I realised you can only catch Wooper at night

phanpy, ledyba, and teddiursa are only available in the morning and i woke up 30 minutes too late

things are popular because of a thing called "lowest common denominator" and i suggest you learn what that means
lowest common denominator popularity doesn't really last though

things that are universally popular like Breaking Bad or The Sopranos are popular because they're so good
you can cherrypick anomalistic examples but that doesn't really prove my point wrong

God of War turning into a dramatic character piece exemplifies how lacking in original ideas big game devs are today.
not sure if it's lack of ideas as much as knowing specifically what ideas "work" best
'Work' in what sense? Because I can see it working as an easy and popular way to reboot old characters , but in a narrative sense it's kind of boring and unoriginal.

Hopefully it's as effective as the new Wolfenstein games have been in doing the same thing.
in a business sense

it's boring and unoriginal, sure, but it's also a huge reward for low effort and zero risk

i'd love to believe that triple-A game devs are honest people who do it for the art, but i'm just too cynical

« on: January 24, 2018, 05:13:47 PM »
it's the best one for casual fun play (other than 64), but i wouldn't bother getting competitive with it

it was okay for that until bayonetta came along
Still no plans for a new Smash?
nothing concrete, but given that nintendo has been porting over literally every single Wii U game worth playing over to the switch with VERY few exceptions, a port of smash 4 over to the switch seems all but inevitable

especially since sakurai is a tortured soul who hasn't been wanting to make more new ones since melee
Damn. I might need to actually get a Switch then for the new Zelda, Mario, Smash (or remaster, whatever) and the standalone pokemon game. The latter has been announced or rumored, right?
yep, we know for sure that the next pokemon game is switch-bound, but we don't know much about it other than that it's still relatively far along

it should be noted that we just had a mini-direct, though

traditionally, mini-directs are often followed up with a larger direct shortly thereafter, which would be the optimum time to reveal something huge like pokemon for switch

fingers crossed
