"Why don't you just watch things that you expect to enjoy" - question one of my weeb friends is always asking me
anime is the only medium where you can expect to hate everything you watch, if you just watch any old thing
whereas i can play pretty much any video game, no matter what it is, and find something to enjoy about it—and even then, you don't have to look very hard to find good stuff
the same applies to film, literature, and especially music (while there are some genres i strongly dislike, i can point to exceptions pretty much everywhere)
but it seems with anime, where everything is garbage, you're pretty much supposed to go into it having a perfect understanding of what you like, rather than being open about what you could end up liking, because otherwise, it's just too hard to find anything worth watching
and this is an art form that i'm supposed to take seriously

Here's (almost) everything I still need to watch from 1995, for reference:
Shows:
Sailor Moon SuperS - Apparently, this is just season 4 of Sailor Moon. Why is it listed as a separate show on MAL? I'll get to Sailor Moon eventually, but I probably won't consider it a 1995 show.
Tenchi Universe - I need to watch the OVA, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, first.
Magic Knight Rayearth II - Obviously, I need to watch the first Magic Knight Rayearth.
The World's Most Famous Tales - Shitty anime adaptations of fairytales Disney already did perfectly. Might not bother.
H2 - Looks kinda interesting. It's about baseball, and I didn't know they played baseball in Japan.
El Hazard: The Wanderers - Already tried and didn't like The Magnificent World, so I'm not sure about this.
Wild Knights Gulkeeva Jura Tripper Bonobono Bit the Cupid Kuma no Puutarou Yanbo Ninbo Tonbo Nurse Angel Ririka SOS Sorcerer Hunters Saint Tail Neighborhood Story Mojacko Touma Kishinden Oni
Some of this stuff is so obscure, it doesn't even have a Wikipedia article.
As for movies, we have:
Elementalors Catnapped! Tobe! Pegasus Kokoro no Goal ni Shoot Tokai no Butchy Whisper of the Heart*** Red Hawk: Weapon of Death Kazu & Yasu Hero Tanjou Memories*** Gotou ni Naritai. Heong-geuli Beseuteu 5
*** = i'm looking forward to these
I'm only counting original movies that don't seem to be part of a larger franchise, so things like Legend of Crystania and any DBZ movie are excluded. Movies adapted from manga alone are fine, but in general, films that are based on shows just tend to feel like glorified episodes of that show, which is not at all what I'm looking for when it comes to film.
I won't bother posting the mountain of OVAs and specials I still need to sift through.

I'm gonna reset on account of the insanely retarded bullshit that's been happening.
5-hit Fury Attack three times in a row with two critical hits every single time + a destroyed PC = reset.
nuzlocking btw so yeah

There's a fun little glitch in this game where you can swap color palettes with the opposite-gendered player character, e.g. having a blue color palette for the boy (rather than red) and a red color palette for the girl (rather than blue). All you have to do is start a new game, save, reset, and then start another new game as the opposite gender that you picked previously. Then save again, only turn off the game right as it's telling you not to. When you reset and continue your last save, not only will this unlock Mystery Gift for seemingly no reason, your avatar's color palette will be that of the opposite gender. If you want a blue Ethan, start as Kris; if you want a red Kris, start as Ethan. The effect seems to wear off as soon as you make it to Slowpoke Well, but it's still a neat little thing. Resetting as the game is still saving is kinda scary, but I've used this glitch for years and I haven't had any problems. Just don't do it in the middle of your playthrough, like I did just now. It'll overwrite everything you had in your PC boxes (I only had a Hoothoot, a Zubat, and an Onix, but still). I wanted to see if I could reapply the glitch even after Slowpoke Well, and you kind of can. Your character will just undergo a sex change, and they'll also be the wrong color. Assuming there are other points in the game where the effect wears off, you could technically alternate between incorrectly-colored characters throughout the playthrough, but the whole PC destruction thing kinda makes this whole experiment a lot less appealing. That's what happens when you tamper with save files too much, I suppose.

Street Fighter II V (Group TAC, 1995, five episodes) Given that I'm already a pretty big Street Fighter fan, I kind of expected to find some enjoyment out of this, especially when it has a decent premise for the source material. But I didn't, really. It takes itself far too seriously, all the fight scenes are pretty laughable, and overall, it wound up being far too slow-paced for me to even finish. 5/10
Wedding Peach (KSS, 1995, one episode) I cannot believe that this Not-Sailor Moon has over 50 episodes to watch of it. 2/10
Azuki-chan (Madhouse, 1995, one episode) This isn't even close to my demographic, and I'm not quite deep enough into my insanity to where I can start imagining myself as a little Japanese girl before I start watching shows that are intended for them (I'm getting there, though). 5/10
Juuni Senshi Bakuretsu Eto Ranger (Shaft, 1995, one episode) 1/10
Soar High! Isami (Group TAC, 1995, one episode) 4/10
801 T.T.S. Airbats (Studio Fantasia, 1995, two episodes) 3/10
Makeruna! Makendou (OLM, 1995, completed) 1/10
Sotsugyou: Graduation (Unknown studio, 1995, completed) 2/10
Lesson XX (Unknown studio, 1995, completed) 3/10
Ruin Explorers (Ajia-Do, 1995, two episodes) 4/10
the bottom of this barrel is vast and spacious

My dad found the collector's edition of Final Fantasy XIII-2 the other day, which has a nice case and the complete soundtrack which is split across three separate CDs.
it'll be a billion years before i play that game, though

i will play this stupid thing, but on one condition
does the game have ANY appeal whatsoever outside of shock value, or the fact that it has twists in the plot
you are only eligible to answer this question if you do not tend to enjoy anime or anime-inspired media

drift drift drift, literally whenever possible and for as long as possible
let bananas hang behind you for protection, never toss them forward because they're that shitty
don't get flustered when you're hit with a barrage of items, it's part of the game and it's happening to everyone else too
if you get a mushroom, never miss an opportunity to blast through offroad paths with it for little shortcuts

top 8 Winners: MOV (Chun-Li) vs. John Takeuchi (Rashid) Infiltration (Menat) vs. Humanbomb (Chun-Li) Losers: Tokido (Akuma) vs. StormKubo (Abigail) Itabashi Zangief (Zangief) vs. Daigo (Guile) really hope daigo takes it, that would make my relatively shitty weekend gonna have to be up at 4:00 AM to catch it, though

things are popular because of a thing called "lowest common denominator" and i suggest you learn what that means
lowest common denominator popularity doesn't really last though
things that are universally popular like Breaking Bad or The Sopranos are popular because they're so good
you can cherrypick anomalistic examples but that doesn't really prove my point wrong

God of War turning into a dramatic character piece exemplifies how lacking in original ideas big game devs are today.
not sure if it's lack of ideas as much as knowing specifically what ideas "work" best
'Work' in what sense? Because I can see it working as an easy and popular way to reboot old characters , but in a narrative sense it's kind of boring and unoriginal.
Hopefully it's as effective as the new Wolfenstein games have been in doing the same thing.
in a business sense it's boring and unoriginal, sure, but it's also a huge reward for low effort and zero risk i'd love to believe that triple-A game devs are honest people who do it for the art, but i'm just too cynical
