looks all right

botw has developed a fondness within me for imperfect horse controls, though, so unless the horse actively feels like it has a mind of its own, that automatically degrades it a little bit for me

So how often do you get the "shut off your brain to enjoy it" spiel?
oddly enough, that hasn't ever been said to me just yet

i think if someone were to glance at my MAL, they'd probably assume that i'm not the type to just "turn my brain off" in order to enjoy something more (though i suppose the closest i've come to doing so was with golden boy)

speaking of which, my MAL's average rating actually increased by 0.01 with my last update

Behold: My least favorite Street Fighter character.

And he looks every bit as bad as he did in 4.

But hey, at least we seem to be getting new characters every month now. That's actually hype as fuck. So the FM I would've grinded for Blanka can now be spent on Falke, assuming she's next.

i was intrigued because it's a traditional fighter and those are my jam, but it looks really bad
what looks bad about it
just looks really boring, match making looks fucking atrocious, and i don't like any of the characters

having to learn three different characters is cool, but the hyperactive MvC style gives me migraines

i prefer my fighters to be more grounded, mid-paced, mano e mano with not too much shit going on

Do you skip recap episodes?
i don't usually make it far enough to see any, but they're not something i generally look out for anyway

i suppose if i knew that the next episode was just going to be a recap, i would probably skip it i guess

why

« on: February 11, 2018, 02:42:23 PM »
Flee made a similar thread awhile back where I went ahead and posted every Switch or Nintendo exclusive game available for the system, categorized by quality, so I'll do the same here and update it.

Sadly, the list hasn't actually grown that much.

Must have:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Mario Odyssey
Splatoon 2

Good choices:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Blaster Master Zero
Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack
Mighty Gunvolt Burst
Snipperclips Plus
Fast RMX

Not so good or niche:

Spoiler
Arms
DragonFangZ: The Rose & Dungeon of Time
Floor Kids
Pic-a-Pix Deluxe
Tactical Mind
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Fire Emblem Warriors
Pokkén Tournament DX
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
Super Bomberman R
Super Putty Squad
Touch Battle Tank SP
ACORN Tactics
Gear.Club Unlimited
Golf Story
Kamiko

Don't bother:

Spoiler
1-2-Switch
3D MiniGolf
FruitFall Crush
Moorhuhn Knights & Castles
Party Planet
Picross S
Puzzle Box Maker
Tennis
Revenant Saga
New Frontier Days: Founding Pioneers
Super Ping Pong Trick Shot
Qbics Paint
Physical Contact: Picture Place
Physical Contact: 2048
Physical Contact: Speed
Soldam: Drop, Connect, Erase
Othello
Boost Beast
Astro Bears Party
Flip Wars
Super Beat Sports
Ultra Hyperball
Puzzle Adventure Blockle
Vroom in the Night Sky

One of the things added to the niche section is a game called DragonFangZ: The Rose & Dungeon of Time, which looks like something you may or may not enjoy, I dunno. Price is definitely a big issue for some games right now.

If you enjoy Mario games, Odyssey is a safe buy.

The good news is that 2018 is gonna be a big year for the Switch, with Dark Souls and Bayonetta (if you're into that sort of thing) dropping very soon, among other things.

also knowing you, you might be into xenoblade chronicles 2

Memories (Various directors, Madhouse, 1995) This one's pretty interesting: an anthology of three different short films, all written and directed by different people, but intended to form a cohesive piece. The first story is called Magnetic Rose and was written by Satoshi Kon of Perfect Blue fame. This is definitely the best of the three stories, and I'd actually be inclined to give it a 7/10 if it weren't so bogged down by the other two lackluster stories, Stink Bomb and Cannon Fodder (very, very appropriate titles). While all three of them have some beautiful illustrations and animation, only Magnetic Rose managed to captivate me all the way through with its story. The creepy sci-fi setting coupled with the deeply troubling themes of how our memories can be seen as both real and imaginary at the same time make this an easy favorite, whereas the others just weren't nearly as thought-provoking. It's a bit of a shame, too; this may have had the potential to become one of my favorites. I'll put it on the rewatch list, though. 4/10

Crayon Shin-chan (Shin-Ei Animation, 1992, ten episodes) For what it IS, this show is honestly pretty great, but for only one reason: the Funimation dub. I remember watching episodes of this when it was airing on Adult Swim, and I didn't even realize it was an anime at the time, let alone a mockery of one. What was originally a child-oriented comedy show in Japan was reworked into a more adult-oriented one with lots of blatant Americanization. Apparently, they even reordered some of the episodes and rewrote certain plots, the result of which is a totally incomprehensible yet extremely entertaining mess. That said, I don't give a fuck about the original show at all, and I certainly wouldn't watch 1000 episodes of it (especially knowing it's not going to be nearly as funny), hence the rating. The dub is merely proof that the West does literally everything better. 6/10

Ranma ½ (Studio Deen, 1989, six episodes) It has a cute premise, I'll give it that. But every single episode after the first is just an unbearable cringe-fest, and I kinda fucking hated every second of it. Granted, it's not the kind of subject matter I expect Japan to handle very maturely or with any degree of taste, but it's still pretty offensive, and I'm told by some trustworthy folks that it only gets worse. I think I've had enough. 1/10

DNA² (Madhouse, 1994, completed) For whatever reason, I decided to watch both this and the 1995 OVA in their entirety, given how short they both were, but I totally regret doing so. While the premise is somewhat relevant to my interests, it may have had a little bit more potential if it wasn't just another schlocky shonen romp. Quite frustrating to watch, and the ending was not only fucking retarded, but borderline insulting. Avoid. 3/10

Shin Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation (J.C. Staff, 1995, completed) There's a reason why Megami Tensei is one of the most inaccessible franchises of all time, and OVAs like this are not exactly helping with that. Not that it's even trying, but still. This is shit. 2/10

Saber Marionette R (Zero-G Room, 1995, completed) I don't even fucking understand this trash. 2/10

Elementalors (Katsuhito Akiyama, AIC, 1995) 4/10

Princess Minerva (Group TAC, 1995, completed) 1/10

Sailor Victory (Unknown studio, 1995, completed) 2/10

Megami Tengoku (Unknown studio, 1995, completed) 1/10

The American Psychiatric Association permits a diagnosis of gender dysphoria if the criteria in the DSM-5 are met. The DSM-5 moved this diagnosis out of the sexual disorders category and into a category of its own. The DSM-5 states that at least two of the criteria for gender dysphoria must be experienced for at least six months' duration in adolescents or adults for diagnosis.

- An intense desire to have the primary or secondary sex features of the other gender
- A deep desire to transform into another gender
- A profound need for society to treat them as another gender
- A powerful assurance of having the characteristic feelings and responses of the other gender

if you're baiting someone, you're not just looking for any kind of response

you're trying to incite an argument

so if people catch on and point out that it's bait, that kind of stymies your effort

to follow up on my last few posts: it turns out that i actually discovered a glitch

i use the word "discovered" because, as far as i'm able to tell, this glitch has yet to be documented on bulbapedia, serebii, or anywhere else, and as soon as i'm able to provide evidence for it, i intend to edit some articles over there

it has to do with the move sweet scent being used outside of battle to produce an encounter during an outbreak

long-story short: during an outbreak, if you decide to use sweet scent outside of battle rather than just walking through the tall grass like normal, the outbreak will end prematurely and you won't get the thing you're looking for

i was able to confirm this after getting arnie to alert me of a second yanma outbreak, WITHOUT using sweet scent that time, after noticing that something seemed a little "off" about the first one

this also confirms that crystal's encounter tables revert back to gold/silver tables during outbreaks, which is so fucking bizarre to me

not sure if the glitch happens anywhere outside of Crystal VC, but given how faithful these ports have been to the original games, it seems safe enough to say that it applies across the board for all gen 2 games on all platforms

at least it wound up working out for me in the end, since i traded the abra i found for a machop and slaughtered the shit out of whitney with it

currently about to fight morty

i've been on it for years now
i might have confused you with the 300 other trans people who still need to get started on bungle

David Attenborough, Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford come to mind.

It's more of a "Oh fuck these vastly famous/influential/iconic people in their field are dead and won't be making more things" than anything else.
What really has me concerned is that we never got new people, not really to replace them, but people that could take up their mantle, y'know be added alongside them in the newer generation.  We don't really have our own Harrison Fords or Sir Ian McKellens.
sure we do

you just have a childhood connection with those actors that you can't have with the newer lot because you're not a child anymore

i can see people like robert downey jr. and ryan gosling and jake gyllenhaal and chris pratt being held up in that light for a lot of kids

i don't know how to answer

i'm very emotional, but i'm also extremely inward about it

the internet allows me to express myself in ways that i do not elsewhere

so i don't really know where that puts me

Sri Mooji. That dude turned me away from a dark path that would've left me so miserable and broken I would probably be dead right now.

I'm beginning to feel the same towards Jordan Peterson as well.
i have no idea what to think about jordan peterson

he's the most down-to-earth and well-spoken person i've ever seen on the right-wing and he's obviously a smart guy, but he's also just dead wrong about so many things, and he comes across as smug to me

john williams would be hard to stomach, but he's so old anyway

stan lee too

I don't know if I will be devastated emotionally but it's going to be weird when George Lucas dies.

It not like he actually does anything anymore but I'm just so used to him... Existing, with his plaid flannel shirt, jeans, and glasses. Him passing away would be sad, certainly, but more than anything I would say that it will feel strange.
Definitely a good one. I fully expect his death to have the Michael Jackson effect, full-force.

Not the most fun thing to think about, I know, but I've actually been thinking about it a lot lately.

Just two people for me: Trent Reznor and Shigeru Miyamoto.

I'm not normally one to get all bent out of shape about celebrity deaths. The last one that affected me in any way was David Bowie, and before that, I hadn't really felt very much at all over any dead famous person's death besides shock.

But Trent Reznor's music has scored my life for as long as I can remember, and has gotten me through so much shit (not that I've "been through" very much shit, but still), and Miyamoto-san is basically responsible for my entire childhood, as well as pretty much everything else that I still enjoy about life, as sad as that sounds.

I put these people on a massive fucking pedestal that I know I probably shouldn't. I've never met them, never will, and I'm not even sure if I'd want to. But their works have had such a significant impact on my life, so I don't think it's completely irrational to be emotionally attached to them in some way.

I can't really think of anybody else. Knock on wood.

jak x is better
i was going to gibe at this post for even entertaining such an idea, but then i looked the game up and discovered that it was actually quite well received

why, i thought it sucked
its really fun

idk naughty dog really excells at racing games if nothing else

the driving itself is like a MUCH faster crash team racing in that it still relies on drifting for boosts, so it retains that satisfying feeling plus it adds a pretty deep weapons system and an awesome industrial rock soundtrack
hmm, maybe i should give it another try

i only played it once, knowing you could play as ratchet, but i don't know if it's because i picked a shitty vehicle or something, or if they intentionally made ratchet shitty as a joke, but the driving just felt really stiff to me

i also had a pretty scratched-up disc so idk maybe that made it play shittier or something
