When I did that I was just jesting.

i'm just saying, because that's an interesting point you bring up about that game

you can talk about how in dark souls, i suck at the game because i got myself killed by the giant monster in the tutorial a bunch of times before i figured out that you were actually supposed to run away from it (which goes against all my gaming sensibilities)

i would argue that the game failed to convey what i had to do properly

there's a message below the monster's feet that instructs you to run away, and that's your only hint--and the only way to see the message is if you go near the fucking thing, which will result in your swift death

soooooooo

to tie this discussion back to fighting games

daigo umehara is widely cited as one of the best street fighter players in the world
if you lose to daigo, someone who knows the game inside and out, that doesn't mean you suck at the game

he's just really good at the game, and you
are not as good

"suck" is just... i don't know, it technically means the same thing, but generally speaking, i'm just not a fan of putting down players for simply not knowing as much as i do about how a game works or not having the dexterity/reaction times/etc. required to play a fighting game at a high level

my opinion is that you can't really be "bad" at video games
you can only be "better" or "worse"--relative terms

everyone plays differently, everyone learns differently, and so everyone is going to have their own unique experience
creating this notion of "suck" only serves to create a negative atmosphere, which is probably not a great plan

maybe "bad" means "worse than the majority of players", but that's sort of difficult to measure, so we just sort of casually toss it around to describe players who have a hard time doing X, which is a petty standard

"i did X on my firs try, so anyone who can't do X on their first try sucks"

That's part of what makes people bad
not really though

i know the rules of chess, but i can't even beat the AI on chess titans
i'm really not that good at chess--and i even know obscure rules, like the en passant and shit

i see where you're coming from here, but i just think we're looking at it from different angles
when i hear words like "suck", i think of an innate inability to do something

if you suck, you can't get better, because you suck
if you get better, it means you didn't suck--you just had a few hurdles to jump over

She's not even actually naked though.
If she had glaring nipples and a cunt for the work to see, then sure, you'd actually have a point.
if they could've gotten away with her having nipples and a visible labia, they certainly would have
but that would be too overt--it would be extremely dangerous and controversial to do that

so they made her as visually lewd as possible without being overtly contentious
Quote
There doesn't need to be a reason for her being "naked".
Why did Michelangelo have naked women in his paintings?
there actually is an answer to that, though

nudity in renaissance-era art was often used as a way to convey that a particular figure is, in at least some respects, inhuman
(that is to say, they're heroes/gods/demigods--they were more than human)

for example, aphrodite is always depicted as nude because she's a goddess, and is above such earthly things such as clothing

david was a biblical hero, and heroes, by their very nature, transcend the quotidian functions of man--and thus, michelangelo sculpted him in the nude, to show that he's a more perfect/virtuous being than the average man

it would be silly to argue that we do the same thing today, in the hypersexualized, hyperconscious culture of the now

it's like she's wearing the most skintight clothing ever, then

and if that's not sexualization, i don't know what the fuck is

Gaming / Re: So Cortana's death scene

How? Because she's "naked"?

Yeah, no. That doesn't mean she's sexually objectifying.
why is she naked

here comes some bullshit story-related rationalization
because anything is okay, as long as the story permits it!...

To quote Atticus.

If you lose to youngster Joey's Rattata it's not because that battle was hard, it's because you suck.
well, the only way you could lose at that fight is if two things were to happen

1. tackle missed, every single time (which isn't your fault)
2. you used your debuff attack instead, which doesn't mean you suck--you're just ignorant of how the game is played

if you know how the game is played, it is literally impossible to lose to youngster joey

Yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't sometimes true.
no, i don't think it's ever true

if you suck at a game, there's likely a reason for it

Have you ever seen a fucking woman?
yes

she's sexually objectified

objectively
Quote
A naked woman =/= sexual objectification
good thing i never said that

Gaming / Re: So Cortana's death scene
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:49:44 AM »
Compared to the previous Halo games, she's got the saggy grandma tits.  Her tits in 2 and 3 were more busty while CE had them weird-ass Sigourney Weaver tits.
i realize this

slightly (SLIGHTLY) less sexualized =/= not sexualized at all

40127
Gaming / Re: So Cortana's death scene
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:43:05 AM »
-She doesn't have silicone pornstar tits like previous Cortana designs.
except she does
Quote
-She has natural looking wide hips as opposed to the stupidly slim previous Cortana designs.
except she doesn't
Quote
-She has a body size that any healthy weight woman would have.
whatever
so would any good sexualized character

the examples are particularly egregious on the account of the fact that she's basically naked
if she had clothes of some kind, and not skimpy ones, maybe she wouldn't be sexualized

but she doesn't
so she is

objectively

There is a difference.

A game being difficult is presenting the player a challenge they can overcome only with a lot of effort.

Being bad is unintentionally losing to Youngster Joey's Rattata.
i know the difference, but it's not that black and white, is it

Gaming / Re: So Cortana's death scene

Oh no. How dare things improve over time. How dare they make her look less like an exaggerated woman and more like realistic looking woman.

Asset improvements aren't suspicious at all.

Halo 4's Cortana is the least sexually objectifying next to Halo 1's Cortana (and that's only because of the age of the game).
you keep saying that her halo 4 design is "realistic looking" and i just don't agree

they may have tried, and that may have been their stated goal, but to me, they failed
hard

I have a blister on my thumb from Melee.
Holy fuck do we go hard at smash.

My characters of choice are Warrior and Peach.

Who's yours?
Warrior? Who would that be?

I played as Roy and Falco.

to rephrase that first point, yes, there are feminists who have different opinions and perspectives on what counts as sexual objectification, and i have mine

feminists are not a homogeneous hive-mind of the same opinions echoed at each other  forever
so if she disagrees, obviously, either
1. her view is faulty
2. my view is faulty
3. she doesn't factor character design into her feminism

and there are a lot of feminists who just don't give a fuck about how women are depicted in media
but i do

Gaming / Re: So Cortana's death scene
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:15:33 AM »
Okay. That's nice.
Cortana's appearance isn't sexually objectifying women. The fucking studio head and general manager at 343 is a hard feminist. She wouldn't have agreed with Halo 4's Cortana design if she was a sexual objectification.
unless she was an idiot

are you denying that the studio head and general manager of 343 is an idiot
Quote
How can you not comprehend that a realistic depiction of a woman isn't sexual objectification?
because she didn't look anything like that at one point
she was practically flat in halo 1

am i saying that women have to be flat in video games?

no

i'm saying you should be fucking consistent
because it looks kinda fucking suspicious if you don't

You know what they say about opinions.  The only thing I'm seeing is you doing the usual "arguing for the sake of arguing."
i'm arguing for the sake of defending my position

you don't refer to me as a feminist disparagingly, as if being a feminist is a bad thing, and not expect to have an argument
yes, i'm going to defend myself

how is that being a "brick wall"

i'm fucking right, guy

what game do you find difficult?

nah, you just suck at them

regardless of whether "a depiction of the female body does not equal sexual arousal" (whatever the fuck that means), what i just fucking said still stands

women are sexualized because they think that's the only way men can be interested in a female character

i hate having my sexuality exploited just so some dumbfuck game company can make a quicker buck

as for the women's side, yes, sexually objectifying women is inherently insulting to women
there is no getting around it

how am i even remotely feminist?
do you think women should have equal rights?

yes?

then you're a feminist

the end
