I dont understand this class of vegan, if you dont wanna eat animals, cool I guess, there's ways around it, but products some animals make, why's it wrong to consume that?

*sips tea*
because we keep animals in captivity to harvest them, often in painful/inhumane ways

obviously

if we could ask a cow for permission, i wouldn't have an issue
but we can't

Couldn't someone say that great things do come out of suffering?
Well, this is obviously the case.

The suffering of 107 billion humans before us is clearly outweighed by the long-term benefits!

The only fighting game I've owned was Virtua Fighter 4 or something.
I don't like fighting games, they're not very fun.
you just suck at them, get good

gave you some help, but the rest was up to you.
and that sort of thing is my shit, but the reason i stopped playing dark souls wasn't because i "got stuck in the tutorial", unlike what so many people here seem to believe, but that's a different discussion

i wouldn't just stop playing a game because it was "too difficult" for me

Gaming / Re: Favorite Fighter Game?

you can talk about how in dark souls, i suck at the game because i got myself killed by the giant monster in the tutorial a bunch of times before i figured out that you were actually supposed to run away from it (which goes against all my gaming sensibilities)

i would argue that the game failed to convey what i had to do properly

there's a message below the monster's feet that instructs you to run away, and that's your only hint--and the only way to see the message is if you go near the fucking thing, which will result in your swift death

soooooooo

to tie this discussion back to fighting games

daigo umehara is widely cited as one of the best street fighter players in the world
if you lose to daigo, someone who knows the game inside and out, that doesn't mean you suck at the game

he's just really good at the game, and you
are not as good

"suck" is just... i don't know, it technically means the same thing, but generally speaking, i'm just not a fan of putting down players for simply not knowing as much as i do about how a game works or not having the dexterity/reaction times/etc. required to play a fighting game at a high level

my opinion is that you can't really be "bad" at video games
you can only be "better" or "worse"--relative terms

everyone plays differently, everyone learns differently, and so everyone is going to have their own unique experience
creating this notion of "suck" only serves to create a negative atmosphere, which is probably not a great plan

maybe "bad" means "worse than the majority of players", but that's sort of difficult to measure, so we just sort of casually toss it around to describe players who have a hard time doing X, which is a petty standard

"i did X on my firs try, so anyone who can't do X on their first try sucks"

Gaming / Re: Favorite Fighter Game?
« on: April 18, 2015, 09:55:50 AM »
That's part of what makes people bad
not really though

i know the rules of chess, but i can't even beat the AI on chess titans
i'm really not that good at chess--and i even know obscure rules, like the en passant and shit

i see where you're coming from here, but i just think we're looking at it from different angles
when i hear words like "suck", i think of an innate inability to do something

if you suck, you can't get better, because you suck
if you get better, it means you didn't suck--you just had a few hurdles to jump over

She's not even actually naked though.
If she had glaring nipples and a cunt for the work to see, then sure, you'd actually have a point.
if they could've gotten away with her having nipples and a visible labia, they certainly would have
but that would be too overt--it would be extremely dangerous and controversial to do that

so they made her as visually lewd as possible without being overtly contentious
Quote
There doesn't need to be a reason for her being "naked".
Why did Michelangelo have naked women in his paintings?
there actually is an answer to that, though

nudity in renaissance-era art was often used as a way to convey that a particular figure is, in at least some respects, inhuman
(that is to say, they're heroes/gods/demigods--they were more than human)

for example, aphrodite is always depicted as nude because she's a goddess, and is above such earthly things such as clothing

david was a biblical hero, and heroes, by their very nature, transcend the quotidian functions of man--and thus, michelangelo sculpted him in the nude, to show that he's a more perfect/virtuous being than the average man

it would be silly to argue that we do the same thing today, in the hypersexualized, hyperconscious culture of the now

it's like she's wearing the most skintight clothing ever, then

and if that's not sexualization, i don't know what the fuck is

Gaming / Re: So Cortana's death scene

How? Because she's "naked"?

Yeah, no. That doesn't mean she's sexually objectifying.
why is she naked

here comes some bullshit story-related rationalization
because anything is okay, as long as the story permits it!...

To quote Atticus.

If you lose to youngster Joey's Rattata it's not because that battle was hard, it's because you suck.
well, the only way you could lose at that fight is if two things were to happen

1. tackle missed, every single time (which isn't your fault)
2. you used your debuff attack instead, which doesn't mean you suck--you're just ignorant of how the game is played

if you know how the game is played, it is literally impossible to lose to youngster joey

Yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't sometimes true.
no, i don't think it's ever true

if you suck at a game, there's likely a reason for it
