and i realize that's a big generalization but i'm pretty confident that i'm mostly right

Literally the worst logic ever.
Sure, if the game was awful and you modded it to make it somewhat good, then you'd have a point.
But for games like Skyrim? A game that's generally praised? Yeah, no.
"generally"

the only people who like vanilla skyrim are the same people who play games like call of duty and madden
and... nothing else

you know, casual gamers
you know, people who don't really care about games that much

So it's not insulting.
Because other idiots don't find it insulting? Why should I care about their incorrect opinion?

You're literally retarded. Modding absolutely does not mean you don't respect the original work.
Yes, it does. If you respected the original work, you wouldn't mod it.

Does it hurt you? No.
Does it suddenly replace the original work? No.
Do they get every single scrap of credit? No.
Can you stop it? No.
Are they ruining my story? Yes.

I really don't give a fuck if it doesn't replace the original work.

All the more reason to be upset about it.

Because developers support it.
So?
Quote
Because the original work still fully exists.
But no one uses/respects it but me, apparently. And apparently I'm boring for doing so.
Quote
Because it harms literally nobody.
Insults don't typically hurt anyone.

It's fanfic. You don't decide anything, they do.
It's their own story built off of yours.
And why should I be okay with that? Because every other author is? No thanks.

Just because you find it insulting doesn't mean it's an insult.

See how this works?
While that's true, you've yet to show how it's not an insult. I've given my reasons for why I think it's an insult already.

Gaming / Re: The purpose of mods

But if I don't take it as an insult, then it's not an insult.
...But that's wrong.

If you called me a cunt right now, I probably wouldn't mind, because I don't really think much of you to begin with, so I don't care if you're going to insult me. But that doesn't change the fact that what you did was an insult.

As an amateur writer, I don't find it insulting if my book gets enough fanfare to the point where people can take characers, places and events from my world and pour their own creative juices in it.
That doesn't mean anything to me. Just because you don't "find" it insulting doesn't mean it's not an insult.
And just because it may not have been intended as an insult, doesn't make it not an insult, either.

Gaming / Re: The purpose of mods

You should feel good that your book has a big enough following that people will add their own creations to it for Fanfiction.
Why? It's insulting. Not to mention, plagiarism.
Literally how?
Because NO. There AREN'T any fucking My Little Ponies in my story. That's not what fucking happened. You don't get to decide what happens--I do.

Are you familiar with the term "desecration".

I shouldn't have to explain why plagiarism is bad, either.

Gaming / Re: The purpose of mods

By your standards, okay, well trying to force yours on other people is pointless.
I'm not "forcing" anyone to believe what I believe, though. I don't understand why people keep saying this. You can mod the fuck out of your games--I'm just going to tell you that I think that's stupid.

But Lemon, art and stuff.  ART.

Modding ruins art with....MORE ART!
You probably think graffiti is okay, too. JUST because it's pretty.

Gaming / Re: The purpose of mods

That really doesnt mean that they dont 'respect their own art'...
By my standards, it does. If I wrote a book, and someone edited it, adding a bunch of My Little Ponies, and tried to publish it? I'm not supposed to take umbrage with that? I'm supposed to LET him to that? I'm supposed to ENCOURAGE that?

So what if developers encourage modding? Like Bethesda with their dedicated modkit.
then they don't even respect their own art

how can i have any respect for a developer who doesn't even respect his own art

What is it then?
RATIONAL!  :D
Respectful of art!
Dismissive of iconoclasm!
Maybe a little bit of purism!

Well, I'm definitely a purist--that's why I hate mods so much, because you're literally breaking the fucking game to your whim, and I find that disgusting.

Yeah, Verbatim, if you don't have the maturity or the mental capability of having a discussion then you shouldn't even bother. There are other eight billion people out there, each one with their own shit going on.
I've already have how many pages of discussion already? I don't really feel like repeating my arguments because you think you're special.

7.3 billion, by the way.

Only games that are loved in the first place get the biggest, and most dedicated modding communities.
Well, that's just a lie. If you loved the game, you wouldn't mod it. Period.

They don't love the game; they love modding the game. Maybe the developers gave them ample opportunity to piss all over their art, and people like that. Well, guess what--I don't.

I think LC said something about only downloading lore-friendly mods earlier, too, and I forgot to touch upon that.

There's no such thing. There are no "lore-friendly" mods. If it wasn't in the game originally, then it's breaking the game's lore. It doesn't matter what it is. If it's a graphics mod, or some kind of mod that fixes a bug, that's still changing the game. You might not consider stuff like that part of the "lore", but I do.

Verbatim, please.
Sure, you can have your own personal copy of the art to do whatever the fuck you want with it. That's not my point, though. My point is that modding games is retarded. It's stupid. I'll never do it, and no one else should, either.

why can't you just love the game for what it is

I'm not, nor have I ever. I'm simply saying that I think using mods is stupid as fuck.

Or, you could play a different game.
Buying another game means spending more money. The truly dumb thing is not wringing all of the possible enjoyment you can out of something before moving on.
Modding a game is doing the opposite of that. Most people who mod games haven't wrung out all of the possible enjoyment they could out of the vanilla game. Which is stupid.

Video games are not paintings; you are not throwing acid on a painting when you mod a game.
Yeah, you basically are, though.
