We like to hang out in person, or send each other text messages if we want to communicate. there is no difference between sending text messages on a phone and using facebook's chat thing

i'm rather partial to ex-, contra-, counter-, ante-, hetero-, infra-, octo-, tera-, yotta-, and juxta-
perhaps a few others, too, but my least favorite is a-
just do prefixes, though fuck suffixes--suffixes suck

Out of the top ten posters, I have the lowest number of pages--but Elegiac, even though his post count nearly doubles mine (he is indeed seven posts short from being the #1 poster right now), doesn't even have 200 pages The highest I've seen is Das, who has 419 pages

Can't say that with 100% confidence in mind either. A perfect simulation is, after all, a perfect simulation. We don't live in one, though. Send me to hell for all eternity if I'm wrong.

I'm just asking, because I don't think there's actually a universal, agreed-upon distinction.
They're virtually synonymous, if you ask me.
I would agree that wisdom is something else entirely, though. Wisdom is knowledge gained through experience--you can't gain wisdom through reading books, for example.

Knowledge and intelligence are different. I'm inclined to agree. But to you, what separates knowledge from intelligence?

Ugh....okay, you got me? Obviously, your brain develops while you're a child and teenager, but this isn't fucking relevant to what I'm talking to Loaf about. I don't know what you're talking about, especially when you say stuff like we can't make ourselves smarter. Like, do you mean that we can't change our IQs? Our capacity to learn? I would agree with that, I guess. Some people have learning disabilities.

« on: June 19, 2015, 10:08:52 PM »
No, you can't really make yourself "smarter". I'm pretty sure I was smarter after I learned language than I was before I could speak/read/write.

I wouldn't say a natural progression of the conversation equates to derailment - there have been plenty of threads that have done that and remained unlocked.
However (using old Serious as an example) - if Meta were to make a thread on the EU, and suddenly on Page 2 Chally and Kinder are screaming about North Korea with no natural progression to connect the two topics, that would equate to a derailed thread.
Well, then, I'd like an apology for at least three warnings that I've received.

That rank is achieved by 117 days online. i thought it was 117 days on top of having 17,500 posts because oss has 125 days, but he doesn't have a custom title set

I'm not, it's not even that hard I always thought this was an asinine thing to say, and the Mythics on b.old would say it all the time. It may not be hard for you, but you're failing to account for the fact that not everybody is you. Some people are opinionated, and angry. I haven't seen you express too many controversial opinions before--hell, I don't recall seeing you having an argument with anybody. Not saying you have to, but this is why you haven't really ever gotten in trouble before. Because you don't... really... post anything. You probably actively avoid engaging in heated discussions about your convictions/passions (if you have any at all), and though that may be easy for someone who lacks such convictions, for those of us who do, it's a little bit easier to have a run-in with the mods. And sure--a lot of it has to do with our own lack of self-control at times, but really, it's just an irritating thing to say. "It's not that hard". I don't know--maybe if you had opinions you felt like were worth losing your privileges over, you'd understand.

"Derailment of threads, or purposefully going off topic, is not encouraged and should be kept to a minimum."
That's the stated policy.

This is why that chat thread that was pinned would have worked. But we all bitched at how stupid it was remember? What I didn't like about the chat thread is that Cheat said he was gonna delete all of the old chat threads when new ones were made. Why? Because our post counts would get "inflated". Like, who cares? That's just dumb. We could do away with post counts entirely and I wouldn't mind.
