i mean, what do i care if it's harder for thieves to be thieves?

i'm just saying, if you're gonna bullshit about emulation being "simple", at least admit that it could be a LOT simpler

That assumes there's only one emulator out there. There are dozens, depending on the system it's emulating. Also different emulators that work on different architectures. You can't play a Windows emulator on a Mac, a Mac emulator on an iPhone, etc.
i said "the required emulator" for a reason

all those caveats would be brought attention to on the wizard

have a checkbox for windows users
have a checkbox for mac users

if it's still a question of which emulator they should use, i'm not sure why that would really matter--just... pick one
or, have an entire list of available emulators (the most popular, maybe) and check the one you want

33002
ignoring for the moment that an emulator should just come packed with each ROM, unless you specify otherwise
Wait, are you saying that an emulator should come prepackaged with every ROM?
i'm saying when you download a ROM, there should be an option on the downloading wizard (unchecked by default) that, when checked, will allow you download the required emulator as well, just in case you need it

maybe that's already a thing--i wouldn't know

it's just to expedite the process just a little bit--and make it more intuitive for the technologically disinclined

33003
Like I said, I'm not interested in debating the ethics of emulators or downloading ROM's.
that's what it boils down to

Quote
There is, though. A ROM is just the file format that holds the game's code. It's desgned to only work on and be read by the designated Nintendo system. You need something else, an emulator, to emulate that system / console and run the ROM on it.
i realize this

but you're forgetting winrar--why is winrar necessary

ignoring for the moment that an emulator should just come packed with each ROM, unless you specify otherwise

I often wonder how verb joined bnet, considering he hates halo.
i've explained it probably a hundred times

2007

"hey jake, i know you hate bungie, but you should check out bungie.net--the community is great"
"okay"

came for the community, stayed for the community

The older ones certainly haven't aged well. But Halo 5 and even Reach/ 4 feel very much suited to the modern day. Though of course, they haven't been given that much time to age yet.
no one likes those games, though?

because halo is super outdated
LOL
probably as outdated as goldeneye 007 was in 2007

33007
- do I have to spend a fair amount of money on an outdated system and game that I might not even like? No.
- do I have to spend time searching the internet for a good deal on one and then wait days or weeks for it to be delivered? No.
- why is all of this necessary? It isn't.
- Would I be better off not spending the time and money and instead rather just take 10 minutes to download it and get the extra emulator options? Perhaps.
you misunderstand the point

i'm not asking "do i have to"
i'm asking "should i have to"--big difference

should you have to spend money on a game and its console?
ethically speaking, in our capitalist system, that's what we have to do, yes

should you have to download anything to play it on PC?
no--there is no logical/ergonomic reason that you should need anything but the ROM

once you weigh the "should you"s, playing the real deal will always round out to be the superior option

33008
Its necessary if you want to play the game?
which is bullshit
it shouldn't be necessary

that's my argument, dumbass

sheik:

accidentally using burst grenade instead of vanish/bouncing fish when trying to recover -_-

33011
- obtain the console
- unbox the console
- set up the console (power supply + TV connection)
- obtain the game
- unbox the game
- insert the game
- set the TV to the right channel / settings
- press power button
- play
i get what you're trying to say, but

some of these shouldn't count as steps, because they're intuitively obvious to anyone

you'd be hard-pressed to find an individual who doesn't know the basic functions of a TV, or what you're supposed to do with an unopened box <_<

it's not about the number of steps
or the complexity of the steps

it's about questioning the necessity of the steps

"should i have to do this?"
Spoiler
no
"why is this necessary?"
Spoiler
it isn't
"would i be better off doing it another way?"
Spoiler
yes

this is all ignoring the fact that piracy makes you a reprehensible fuck, of course

terrible

it doesn't help that i'm not into racing games in general, but i mean, mario kart is just... ugggh

33014
except this is a case where it is possible

i have a game--i put it in the machine, and i flip the switch
now i'm playing the game

no extra downloads
no sifting through files
just... playing the game

that's how it should be

Anyone else think 1v1 victories are shit unless they use the exact same loadout and no buffs or weapon pickups are not allowed?
i think they're shit if the map isn't perfectly symmetrical

a player's walking distance to certain powerful weapons is kind of a big deal, and i think that hurts your victory a little bit, yes

i also don't have it, so i couldn't participate

like i said before, bad games (like halo and mario kart) are tolerable if you're playing with friends

but i'm just saying--there are lots of games out there that we could play instead

33019
Gaming / Re: Halo 3 1v1: Deci vs Chally (Theater Mode Versions out now)

because halo is super outdated and FPS games aren't really fun and interesting anymore

i mean, just a guess

i think it's a good idea, but we just need a better/more relevant game

33020
I already have it
that's what you use to open it with

you can't just click on the file--you have to tell it to open it with winrar, and then you gotta sift through a bunch of shit to find the emulator

it's very unintuitve

Jesus fuck. All I'm getting from this is that Verb wants life to be a perfect cake walk where his every want is delivered instantly.
are you saying you wouldn't want that?

33021
you download 3 things, one is commonly used (win rar)
too much

pressing one button > downloading three programs
fuck that shit
Quote
It's all super, super simple to use.
it's not a matter of how simple it is to USE, shithead

should you have to do it at all

no
no you shouldn't

33022
actually no, you're absolutely correct

everything should have you download a few extra programs first in order to work

that's how things should be--what the fuck is a default!?

incan for president 2016

33023
am i being tricked right now

is this serious or not i can't tell
you still haven't explained how you shouldn't be able to just double click on an icon to immediately play the game

why do you have to download five thousand fucking programs, and why is that better than playing on the original, real device

yes, anything more than A SINGLE BUTTON PRESS is an overcomplication--it shouldn't take any extra downloads at all

the fact that you can't understand this is pathetic

33024
you know what i use to "pack files"

my fucking harddrive.

i don't need "winrar"

incan is an idiot

33025
Thats probably why he can't wrap his head around mods.
yeah that's totally it

33026
yes

wacky software

that a huge amount of site use to pack files

yes

that huge wacky software
wow, that was coherent

explain to me how
1. flip power switch
2. play game

is less complicated than downloading bullshit software

how is that less complicated

33027
ugh

he probably needs fucking winrar or some shit

this is another reason why you shouldn't bother pirating--it's so fucking needlessly complicated
yes

getting software for a commonly used file type is complicated
it is when the alternative is:

1. have game
2. press the power button
3. play game

fucking idiot

you shouldn't have to download any wacky fucking software just to play a simple game

Maybe speed them up to x2 speed or something? I mean they're both a half hour long, I think.
youtube players already have that option
