*thanks
but if i used the word's full orthography, it would not have produced the desired effect

Anyone else find it ironic Verb plays on normal because he thinks its the way "the dev intended for it to be played"

Even though the Heroic difficulty specifically say "the way the game was meant to be played"

:^
it literally doesn't, though

it only says that for halo 3--a game i haven't touched in years

so there is no way i could possibly know

Lol, the amount of near-misses I've had due to stupid drivers have been insane. I even saw a fucking jeep on its roof in  ditch.
And that doesn't give you pause? That doesn't make you wish you could go back in time and shoot the motherfucker who invented the automobile in the fucking head before he has a chance to invent it or whatever?

i mean, yeah, i know that cars are important, because they facilitate basically everything in society now, but like

i'm just saying
i don't think it's terribly controversial to be scared shitless of driving--what, just because it's mundane?

Gaming / Re: Do you go out of your way to get achievements/trophies?
« on: August 23, 2015, 12:13:20 AM »
I only start aiming for trophies after I've beat the game once, and I'm really bored/have nothing better to do.

If I'm particularly close to getting a platinum, I'll probably shoot for it. Still haven't gotten one yet.
Some trophies are just stupid.

Being a mild completionist, I do appreciate their existence.

Driving? The fuck?
30,000 crashes per year in America alone.

Just the knowledge that you can die a fiery, burning death at literally any second--not even at your own hand.

Having other passengers with you and making sure they're safe.

It's the fucking WORST.

Nothing can console me about that, either. Any attempts at placating me over it will likely just backfire, and make me fear it even more. It's that bad.

It's a wonder why I forgot to mention it.

Oh, another one:

Driving.

I'm fucking terrified of driving. I still don't fucking know how, and I'm almost twenty. Bad.

Well, The Flood is basically Halo CE, except with more detail. Like in the first mission, some grunts all got on the Chief and tried to take off his helmet
Ah. Yeah, I don't know about that. I tend to take a Mr. Plinkett stance on expanded universe type stuff--in that, all that really matters to me is the core line of games, so they're obviously gonna take priority. You dig?

Plus, it just seems like a lot of shit to read, too. How many books are there, and how many do you think are even worth reading? I remember reading an excerpt from the Ghosts of Onyx and thinking it was a joke <_<

Septagon / Add a "don't notify" feature.
« on: August 22, 2015, 10:13:20 PM »
Sometimes, I make mistakes.

I know, I know--"THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"--but it's true.

I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to my grammar (unless I'm in no-caps mode, of course), so if I ever see that I've made an error--even if it's been an hour since I posted the message--I'll still feel the need to edit the post and correct my mistake.

The trouble is, due to how notifications work on this website, if you have anyone quoted in your post, and you edit it, it notifies everyone you quoted. Oftentimes, I've had people tell me to "stop editing my posts", because every single time I do, they get notified.

Sure--this could be rectified simply by me proofreading my posts, but honestly, I don't feel like I should have to acquiesce to one of the site's most glaring flaws. So, I suggest to have an option to disable notifications for that single post/edit. Maybe have it just be a checkbox that says "don't notify", or something.

I imagine this could potentially have other applications as well--this is just one of them.

If it seems too minor, that's fine--just a suggestion.

Couldn't find a copy in any of those flea markets, unfortunately. Decided I would get a copy over at Amazon instead. Should be here in a week <_<

Looks like I won't get the game finished by August after all. Oh well.

Get halo 2 as well, if you can
I already have it. Didn't I mention this?

So are you going to gett a 360 if you decide to keep playing the series?
Ummmm, well, I'll have to if I plan on playing Halo 3, but that's gonna be a loooong time from now. Unless Halo 2's story is so amazing that I must get one immediately after beating it. So, we'll see.

how the fuck do you guys know which consoles I own/don't own, anyway

Will you read a couple of the books?
Ummmmm. No, probably not. I actually bought Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike many years ago, for the sole purpose of looking cool to my friends <_<

Not that I'm not interested in the series lore, or anything--I am, but... I don't know. Books are books, games are games. Games happen to be interactive, and, well, fun. Books can kinda be a drag to read. Unless I'm actually learning something interesting or useful, I don't normally have the patience for them.

I guess I don't want to just flat-out say "no", so, consider that another "we'll see".

What I want to do is finish playing the games first--then I can start getting into all that other bullshit, if I so desire.

I would like to point out that I never argued against improving current drugs or implied that you should be happy with what we currently have available; all I said is that there is no such thing as a perfect drug. Ibuprofen, a drug which hundreds of thousands of people use ever day, has possible side-effects that involve headache, nausea, bleeding, vomiting, et cetera. Until I just googled it, I had no idea that taking an Advil could give you a headache, or make you bleed. That's how rare that side-effect is.

If all drugs had side-effects that occured at that same likeliness, it would be fantastic. And if those side-effects weren't even a thing? Even better. But that's not what's currently happening, and I accept that. I don't think it should stay that way, gOD no, but am I not allowed to speak in terms of the present? In the future, I'd love to see hereditary conditions phased out by advanced genetic screening during before a child is born; I'd love to see someone who has lost their legs have new legs, whether they be artificial tissue and muscle or cybernetic, and even more amazingly a total upgrade from normal legs; I'd love to see surgeries and drugs that assist in living a healthier and/or more "pure" life. But that's what I want, not what I have.

That's not saying that it isn't important to work for the change we want to see. I just don't think saying, "I'm not happy with the current state" means much. I don't think anybody who doesn't profit from it is happy with the state of the medical industry. It just strikes me as either redundant or an absurdly overemotional response to the situation, and Verb generally isn't the kind of person to speak redundantly. That was my issue with your argument.
Hey, fair enough. As usual, we're not actually disagreeing here--we just have a different take on the issue, and that's okay.

Really, I was just trying to poke you into elaborating there. I know you weren't actually trying to say all that.

I just thought it was unfair for you to say that I'm gonna have an unhappy existence unless I, well, change my view to something that looks more like yours--which, of course, is an appeal to emotion in itself. Because, yeah, I know I'm unhappy. So when you said that, it was just like... "Um, thanks? What is this, an ultimatum? What are you trying to say here?" I just didn't like your tone.

That said, I still don't think it's impossible for us to create the perfect drug. I concede fully that there's many things we should be able to do, but can't--but making the perfect drug? I think it's too early to make any calls there.

I think with diligent testing, we could mitigate the side-effects to a point where they are either negligible, extremely rare, or harmless. I'm not saying it's gonna happen tomorrow--but who's to say it can't ever happen?

The Flood / Re: Does anybody else get ASMRs?
« on: August 22, 2015, 09:21:11 PM »
I mean... I guess I do have it in some ways. A particularly weird one: When I was younger, I liked to lightly file my nails on sharp/thin objects. Like... sheets of paper, or knives. Not to clean them--it just... felt good. I don't really do this anymore, though.

The whispering just kinda makes me uncomfortable.

I'm heading to Mackinac Island today, so I won't have a chance to crack at it again. There's a huge marketplace over where I'm headed, however--with lots of video game flea markets. With luck, I'll be able to find myself a new, functioning copy of Halo.

I'm gonna try to focus more on the positive from here on out. It would be redundant if I just went on about the stuff I'm not liking, so in an effort to combat that, I'll try to keep things fresh with every update. I'll also work on keeping the updates shorter.

see you guys around
