Assassinations != lightly punching somebody in the back. Getting hit by someone wearing mjolnir armor is like having a ton of bricks smack your back. That's the amount of force it takes, storywise.
Game logic wise it's a scripted weak spot. Even if you made all players invincible in Halo 3, you can still kill them by hitting their backs.
this thread is about game logic, though i'm not talking about assassinations, anyway--i'm saying if you try to punch a jackal in the face, it won't be enough to kill it so, game logic-wise, the punch isn't that hard (as in powerful)--everything just has a glass spine
