Xbox OG units have a history of laser-reader blockages. Just pop open the console and clean the lens.

Actually, the stated reason for my not-having-been-chosen was simply because the staff was looking for "friendly faces"--and because I've only recently "cooled down" in terms of my general demeanor. They didn't say anything about my outbursts--of which I've had none of over the summer.
There might be more to it than that, of course--maybe some mods just straight-up don't like me, and that's fine--but that was the reason given by Psy in that thread.

Even giving the OP of a thread the power to view everyone's post, before they post them (to deem if they're okay), would be better than nothing. YouTube has this option, where your comment has to be approved by the uploader before it's public.
This way it mitigates the effect of an asshole.
I mean... I like that, too, but the trouble with that kind of system is that it wouldn't be very conducive to fluid discussion, and it may disincentivize some people from posting at all because the OP might take too long to look over the post.

A button that can collapse a user's post (complete with "Moderator action has been taken against this post. View at your own risk" message) would be the easiest way to combat this imo. This doesn't really oppose the idea of a forum-specific moderator, but with a combination of both ideas it would be more effective than what we have now.
Yeah, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I'm always too hung up on punishments, because I just resent these fuckers, but yeah, that's a... decent solution. The trouble is preventing it. If we have a particularly persistent case, like what we have tonight, how long can we rely on the mods to censor every single post (and in a timely manner)?... There has to be a preventative measure at some point.

Oh, I've had this idea for awhile. It's not like other forums don't do it--if anything, it's silly that we don't. A long time ago, I proposed that Meta should be a mod presiding over Serious. I still think he should, but he's AWOL right now.

He wasn't talking punishments there--he's talking the length of the grace period in which you would (ideally) be able to peruse the forum without fear of getting spoiled. I see Byrne's point: 6 months is a long time. 2-3 seems good enough, the more I think about it.

I don't think it should really matter. No matter how old the media is there will still be people who haven't consumed it and care about spoilers.

As for punishments, well, I really do think this would be tough to moderate unless you take intentions into account. Someone who forgets to put spoiler tags around something once shouldn't be punished the same as someone maliciously and deliberately throwing out spoilers. Perhaps +15 to +20 warning points for a first slip up and +50 to +60 (basically 2-day lite-ban) for someone malicious?
That all seems fair. I mean, I would ban them into Half-Life 3's release date if they were being malicious, personally, but whatever you think is right, I guess. I'd rather see SOMETHING done about it rather than nothing.

I don't want to hear anything about how "spoilers are harmless" or "it's just a game", or whatever. That would be missing the point. The point is, it's a malicious act of trolling--pissing people off, ruining their fun, and laughing at their expense. So, I propose the aforementioned missing rule--prohibit the posting of all unmarked spoilers. The user in question admits to intentionally spoiling the unreleased content for the sake of "being a dick" and being malicious, and he should be punished for it. Discuss potential punishments. Personally, I say fuck warnings--if you're gonna spoil something with malicious intent like that, it should be an outright and swift ban up to a fucking year. One week minimum. Unintentional spoilers can receive a little more clemency. Thoughts? edit: Oh, and concerning the potential for "fake" spoilers (because there's been slight confusion over the content's legitimacy): This should be treated with equal austerity--if not more. It's akin to shouting "FIRE" in a crowded theater. So it shouldn't go unpunished, either.
