Serious / Re: Is morality objective?
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:09:39 PM »
Yes, obviously.
How so?
The presence of negative sensation in the universe mandates that we curtail it. That which prevents the most negative sensation in the universe is, therefore, objectively good.

There's no way that could be anything else but good.

I just don't think Open World is a good idea for stealth games since they so heavily depend on your environments.
it does seem like an odd concept

Subjectively objective.
i actually like that

because, like... even though it's objective, our interpretations of it are obviously gonna vary
which is why we debate

the nice thing about it is that the best ideas always come out on top in the end

Ignoring the sequels, he is a pretty cool character. His humanity fighting the cold machine that replaced most of his body.
i see

i appreciated a lot of the messages it was trying to convey, but

it just reeked of that late-'80s cheese, and that's always a turnoff for me

People ITT aren't getting that this isn't representative of the state's people, or where the character was created or whatever. They literally just took a poll from all 50 states, and those were the results.
I figured. Some of the characters on here are like, "What?..."

the only reason i want to take away everyone's guns isn't because of any safety reasons

i just want to drink hunter tears
But hunters can still use bows/x-bows. Are you going to ban those too?
of course! :^)

Exactly. Hence, strict moderation.

31551
Verb stop. Please.

It wasn't improper, it's an actual definition. No amount of damage control will change this.
The fact that dictionaries aren't law isn't damage control. It's just a fact. You can cry into your pillow all you want, but it's never going to change. You. Were. Wrong.

And this right here is actual off topic discussion.
Your fault, not mine. I was trying to stay on-topic—you were more interested in whining about how badly I fucked you in the ass.

Now, I ask again—what is your actual stance on this issue? I feel like I've asked this five times already.

Only because you get to do less work.

Which is the probably shittiest possible reason to vote for it.

31554
Except this doesn't substantiate your claim. Sex and procreation means both parties are equally responsible for the results. Just because the dude really wanted to fuck and the girl was just "meh" doesn't mean he is more responsible for the resulting pregnancy/child than she is.
As I stated earlier.

there is a big difference between being responsible and taking responsibility
You are conflating the two for no reason.

When it comes to taking responsibility, sure, both parties are equally responsible. That's AFTER sex.

BEFORE sex, it's more important for the male to be responsible and keep his sexual advances in check. Because, traditionally, women don't ask for sex as much as guys do. It's typically the guy who initiates the sex. Unless you have the numbers to contradict this piece of COMMON KNOWLEDGE, uh, shut the fuck up.

31555
If you had no desire to discuss it then why did you engage in conversation with me?
Because I'm still trying to figure out where you stand on the issue. We already both agree that people who think men are hornier than women as a rule are wrong, so we don't need to discuss it further. It's not like there's much else to add.

and now you're flip flopping and pretendng that words can only have one definition.
I never said that. Your use of the word "myth" was improper. I'm sure if you look up the dictionary definition of the word "theory", you're going to find the definition of a "hypothesis", too, even though that's not what a fucking theory is.

I'm just saying dictionary definitions should generally be taken with a grain of salt. It would be great if dictionaries went into detail about a definition's origin—like, at what point did people start calling hypotheses "theories"? Or, at what point did people start calling mundane untruths "myths"? That would be awesome. But they don't do that.

I'm just trying to prevent you from looking like a fool to those of us who actually know our shit. Because I really do cringe whenever someone says "myth" that way.

It would also help if you had an OUNCE of humility. I'm not one to talk, but FUCK, man.

31556
The only reason it would is because the man chooses to take on greater obligations because to him sex is more valuable.
Exactly. And he's a stupid motherfucker for thinking sex is more valuable—that's my point.

So, you're not disagreeing with me at all, and you're either too stupid to realize that, or... I don't even know what's happening.
You can't just keep saying "it does", you have to substantiate your claim.
You can't just cut out the part where I substantiated my claim and then say that I failed to substantiate my claim. That's called being a shithead.

31557
What the fuck are you talking about. You haven't given any reasoning as to why men having greater desire for sex creates an obligation for them to have greater responsibility. Nothing about wanting something more means you have to sacrifice more.
Uh, yeah, it does. If the thing you want is something as dangerous and as stupid as sex. It ABSOLUTELY does.

31558
If men tend to be "hornier" than women, it logically follows that men ought to be more responsible.
No it doesn't? The only thing that that establishes is that men are more willing to be more responsible than woman.
Yeah, that's why the overwhelming majority of all rapists are men. Because they're willing to be more responsible.

What the fuck are you talking about?

31559
Considering that "men are hornier than women" was something being used in this thread to justify peoples views
But not my view. I have no interest in talking about views that neither you nor I share, if what we're doing is arguing. No—you present your argument, I present mine. Whatever other viewpoint there is, I'm not really interested in that right now. It's irrelevant.

I'm saying, no, I don't think men are hornier than women, or vice-versa. That was Simse's dumbfuck interpretation of my post. All I said was that, generally speaking, men are societally conditioned, as you pointed out, to be more... I don't know, forthright with their desires than women are. You're saying...

I don't even know what the fuck you're saying. You're just asshurt for not knowing what a myth is.

Quote
No one really cares about your made up definitions. If you want to discuss things with people in the real world you're going to have to be grounded in reality.
I'm going to say this as nicely as possible:

It's not a made-up definition, you stupid fuck.
The very definition you copy/pasted contained the real definition of the fucking word. The first. One. Listed.

YOU were applying the SECOND definition. A myth is a fucking story that is passed down from generation to generation and has some kind of collective historical significance. That's what a fucking myth is. I didn't take a whole fucking mythology course just to be told by some fuckhead on the Internet that that definition is actually made up. Cunt.
