That is an excellent example. I forgot all about her. for some reason. She's not unattractive, but she's not oversexualized, either. Perfect example of a good female character. Well, I hope. We'll see if she has a good backstory and personality and all that shit when the game comes out, but 10/10 on the aesthetic. But yeah, that's what I'm talking about. More of THOSE, please.

Well to be fair, how many likeable unattractive male protagonists are there? Well, that's my point. There should be more of them—male AND female. The reason I didn't bring up males at first is because, as a heterosexual male, I don't really have the most objective concept of what an "attractive male" is. Because I don't really find any males attractive in the same way that I do with girls.

I also just think it would be an interesting and refreshing spin to see a strong, female character who happens to be unattractive. Not only would that be unique and consistent with reality—it would also make a good statement. Characters don't have to be attractive to be interesting or likable.

Sometimes it helps to dissociate or examine your most closely held beliefs from a different perspective for the sake of discussion. But okay, I'll bite. Allow me to look at it from the perspective of someone who doesn't give a fuck about how women are portrayed in media. So, an idiot. So now I'm stupid, I'm unable to look at things from a critical, feminist point of view, and I'm blind to the fact that women are being degraded and objectified day-in, day-out by the entertainment industry. You could argue that "ignorance is bliss", but ignorance is ignorance. I'd rather not be ignorant. I'd rather stand up and say, "Okay, this is kind of perverted. I wouldn't want to be a woman knowing that my gender is being exploited so often." That will always seem like the mroe rational perspective. So that was useless.

I'm generally fine with sexual characters as long as they have characterization beyond being sexy. Like The Boss, or Cortana. They're genuinely compelling and also happen to be physically (or digitally) attractive, but their sexuality is never the focal point. They don't "happen" to be attractive—they were deliberately designed to be attractive. Let's not act like it was just happenstance, like birth. ...And then you have characters like Quiet, who are there just for the sake of eye candy. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with her if she had an actual story arc and a personality of her own, but she's really just there to look good and shoot stuff. That's distasteful.
Well, I'm glad that we can agree there.

There's no other way I can do this other than by asking you, and picking apart your answers. That isn't really happening though. It's rare. Take a look at most women characters. Most women in the most popular of video games are sexualized in some manner. To the point where it's unnecessary.

So you can't answer the question. Okay. That's the question that needs answering. Show me why I should embrace sexuality, and I'll cease to be against the exploitation of female characters in video games. Male characters, too. You have to prove that since we're the normal ones. I already have. Everyone should know exactly why I hate sexuality and why I think everyone else should hate sexuality. How about portraying them as people and allowing their sexuality to be a factor as well because it IS a factor.

I haven't seen it very often, but it happens. It hasn't happened in any of Anita's examples. Because it's crossing the limit of being acceptable. It's pervy.

I don't see a problem with sexualizing women - to a certain extent. And surprisingly enough women enjoy that type of attention.
