What kind of monster puts up fifteen videos on youtube and shuts them out to the public. Reading through the dark souls journey, since I've the time and I'm not motivated for much else right now. Watched the last video with Gwyn. Opening made my stomach crawl for reasons. Great parry chains on Gwyn. Props to playing risky with PW too. I don't think I'd ever heard your voice before now. Weird to hear it. Halfwise what I'd've imagined but not what I'd expect. I guess to make things slightly more on topic with collecting, did you every try out any of the other souls games?
I do own every Souls game, but besides DaS, I've only ever tried DaS2 for about ten minutes before my body viscerally rejected it. I found it revolting. It was like waking up to find all my possessions swapped for replicas with slight imperfections, and it was just the most off-putting experience. I'd like to give it another shot eventually, but yeah. Bad first impression.

I believe it was you who told me to stick it out with the first game, though, when I was still expressing my grievances with the multiplayer and such (which I still loathe). I appreciate that, because now it's one of my favorite games of all time, even if it's starting to fall a little out of favor with the younger generation these days.

Sorry for not responding to your (multiple) other posts btw. I'm not ignoring them; I'll respond as soon as I can.

Same reason why academy members get to vote on what wins an Oscar despite not watching any of the movies.

And I can understand wanting to put cringe redditors in their place, but Napalm is right; TLoU2 didn’t do anything truly outstanding.
the award for innovation in accessibility, at the very least, was well-deserved

not that i followed it too closely at the time, but i seem to recall a similar furor over the amount of bugs with New Vegas on release, and now that game is considered one of the best in the series, if not one of the best games ever

not that games still shouldn't be great on day 1 or anything

oh, good—so you got to see me finish dark souls after all

In all seriousness, like Ender said, despite everything, you being alive is obviously preferable to you being dead, and knowing the truth really is the most important thing to me in the end. In any case, very few people get to know what people will say about them after they die, so congratulations on that. That must've been surreal.

I went ahead and re-examined all of the interactions we've had on this new account of yours, given that they've been thoroughly recontextualized. It was an interesting experience. I've never really had a negative interaction with you as Sandtrap, which I can't really say about almost anyone else here, so I'm happy to say that we've more or less always been on good terms, even under this new identity of yours. A few philosophical disagreements here and there, but if my memory serves correctly, we've never really fought over much.

There were a number of users who called your bluff, and I won't lie and say that I wasn't the least bit skeptical myself, but I chose to give you the benefit of the doubt, because it seemed like the right attitude to have at the time—and I stand by that.

However, simultaneously, I think it's very important for you to understand what you've really done here. People lie, that's whatever. But lying about your own death, I think, is somewhat of a jumping off point for your trustworthiness. It tends to call everything you've ever said to us into question, because if you're willing to lie about something like that, it begs the question as to what you wouldn't lie about. You know what I mean? It's the only logical question I have left to ask.

I don't know how we proceed at this point, but that's how I'm feeling about this little plot twist here at the moment. To reiterate, I'm glad you're okay, because I'm glad when anyone's okay, but I guess I'm still trying to process a lot of this.

Only award worth mentioning went to GOT, the rest of the rewards are shill critics voting on the company that paid them the most/ threatened them the most with legal action.
TLoU2 was winning player's voice until the pissbabies at reddit /v/ and twitter caught wind of it

they all voted for a game that haven't played and don't care about just to pwn SJWs, not because GoT deserved it

not that GoT isn't great, but the circumstances in which it won are mega cringe and make me happy that TLoU2 won everything else, because watching transphobes and epic gamers seethe is hilarious

Is Elden Ring really that hyped? I thought Cyberpunk would've been on the list, although I guess it launched recently so that might explain it.
i mean, it's a collab between the dark souls guy and the game of thrones guy, so not too surprising imo

that said, i did expect it to go to botw2, but i'm biased

You guys tell me once this over who won what, ok?
TLoU2 swept hard, winning game of the year, best narrative, best game direction, best audio design, innovation in accessibility, and best action/adventure, with Laura Bailey winning best performance (7 out of the 11 categories it was nominated in).

Meanwhile:
- Ghost of Tsushima won best art direction and player's voice (would've been TLoU2, but /v/ rigged the polls)
- Hades won best indie game and best action game
- FF7 Remake won best RPG and best score/music
- Among Us won best mobile game and best multiplayer game (despite being released in 2018)
- Tell Me Why won games for impact
- No Man's Sky won best ongoing game
- Fall Guys won best community support
- Half-Life Alyx won best VR game
- MK11 won best fighting game
- Animal Crossing won best family game
- Microsoft Flight Sim won best simulation game
- Tony Hawk won best sports game
- Phasmophobia won best debut game
- Elden Ring won most anticipated game
- Valkyrae won content creator of the year

I bet on that nobody cares.

Would be funny if some newly released games would participate or even win here *cough* Cyberpunk *cough*.
even without the last delay, cyberpunk wouldn't have made the cutoff

predicts:
ghost of tsushima will win game of the year, even though it belongs to Dreams (which wasn't nominated)
doomguy will (unfortunately) be the next smash character

From the same guy, we just added ten N64s:

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko
Mortal Kombat 4
Jeopardy!
The New Tetris
Penny Racers
Top Gear Overdrive
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
NBA Courtside 2 Featuring Kobe Bryant
Bottom of the 9th

178/296 (just over 60%); to get 2/3 of the library, we just need precisely 20 more games

The original Turok has been a bug up my ass for a long time, so I'm delighted to finally have it. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil in particular has been in the collection since before we started collecting—it was literally among the first goddamn handful of games we've had—and now we have the entire series. Given that I refuse to play games out of sequential order, this has been a long time coming.

The Gex games are kind of annoying in that the only other Gex game for the N64—Enter the Gecko—is actually supposed to be called Gex 2, but because of that dumbass "64" titling gimmick, one might mistake it for the first game in the series. The real first game in the series, simply titled Gex, was originally for the 3DO and never got ported to the 64. As it happens, though, it's a 1995 release, which gives me two reasons to pick it up... but probably for the PlayStation, or something, because fuck the 3DO lmao.

Jeopardy! has some increased sentimental value for obvious reasons, and I've always loved the game show anyway, so I was happy to pick this one up at last. To pay respects to my man Trebek, I playtested this game first, and I'm not even joking—four out of the six categories in the first round of my first game were the following: History, World History, American History, and Ancient History. I guess they were still figuring out how to balance these in the '90s.

Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey is an unassuming sports game, it happens to be the final piece to the 1996 collection we've been trying to complete. That is to say, we now own all ten of the first games released for the system during its inaugural year in the market (sans Japanese exclusives, of course): Super Mario 64, Pilotwings 64, Wave Race 64, Mario Kart 64, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Killer Instinct Gold, Cruis'n USA, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, International Superstar Soccer 64, and this one. I, for one, think that's pretty cool. In order to complete the 1997 collection, we'll still need about ten more games, but I need to double-check the release dates.

Mortal Kombat 4 is the most valuable game in this batch, but nothing too crazy—about $24 loose.

Here's an update of that chart I posted before:
Spoiler

And just to make it known: Harvest Moon 64 and Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber are both available on the Wii U Virtual Console for $9.99 for as long as the service remains available, which shouldn't be for too much longer now. I imagine it'll probably get shut down very soon, so it's worth considering picking these two games up in particular, because they're kind of rare and expensive to get legitimate cartridges of. The former is worth about $45 loose, and the latter is worth about $75 loose.

Obviously, having the real cartridges is way cooler, but saving money on a game you'll otherwise never be able to play legitimately is pretty cool, too.

well, the hunt for a collector's edition preorder begins i guess

i normally NEVER give a fuck about these, but this one seemed too nifty to pass up

if i don't end up getting it, it just means i get to save $45 more bucks
Well, I was able to snag one.

Not the most amazing collector's edition, but I think that replica NES cartridge will look nice with my other stuff, and I'm sure the art book is cool. Manuals rock, too. Supposed to arrive January 2nd, but hopefully it comes sooner.

Also, how can you watch cutscenes like this without getting chills? For every dumb Goofy/Donald moment, there's a moment like this.

You guys suck I love Kingdom Hearts, faults and all

Orgasmic music + fun gameplay is all I ask for. Also the story is epic and left me in tears sometimes
gameplay thus far has mainly been mashing the shit out of the X button, which isn't really my idea of fun

When it comes to the gummi ships, there are definitely some things you just tolerate more or just like more as a child. The appeal isn't the same when I come back to it now, but I think maybe it's because it was also the first game where I could not just fly, but also build a spaceship. So 9-13 year old me thought it was the coolest shit ever. Same thing goes for the light/dark stuff lmao, it was very fake pseudo-deep but it tried to be profound in a way I hadn't been exposed to before.
you ever play r&c? the second game has customizable ships, too, so i feel like if you haven't, you'd probably have a field day with that game, because it has the sickest space battles i've ever seen for a game that isn't entirely focused on them

I liked KH1 and 2 as a child and I thought the whole "light and darkness" stuff was super deep when I was in middle school. Coming back to it as an adult made me realize how dumb I was. Still, fond memories. Used to be obsessed with making gummi ships in KH2 to the point where people at school would give me their memory card so I could build them something. Had this notebook with graph paper where I'd draw blueprints and shit. I think for the time it was pretty good graphics and gameplay-wise, but this is the PS2 era we're talking about. The Final Mixes from what I understand don't do anything to remaster the graphics besides upscaling and changing some colors for some reason.

This is the closest you'll ever see me come to anime, btw.
haven't tried building gummi ships yet—i didn't like the space missions in the first game enough to even bother, but things seem to have improved a lot in 2

and yeah the dark/light stuff is pretty comical
when i read this flavor passage late into the first game, i almost shat myself:

"Ones born of the heart and darkness, devoid of hearts, ravage all worlds and bring desolation. Seize all hearts and consummate the great heart. All hearts to be one, one heart to encompass all. Realize the destiny: the realm of Kingdom Hearts. The great darkness sealed within the great heart. Progeny of darkness, come back to the eternal darkness. For the heart of light shall unseal the path. Seven hearts, one Keyhole, one key to the door. The door of darkness, tied by two keys. The door to darkness to seal the light. None shall pass but shadows, returning to the darkness. One born of the heart and darkness, hunger for every heart until the dark door opens."

this series is trash and i regret everything
Why you have been playing it still, lol
boredom, and it's not actually that bad tbh, i'm just pretty disappointed after all the great things i've heard

a buddy of mine is convinced that once i make it to a certain point in the game, i'll turn around on it, so i'm holding out for that—because he said if i'm still not into it at that point, i don't have to play the rest of the series

Pretty good NES haul:

StarTropics
Bubble Bobble
Lode Runner
Mighty Bomb Jack
Athena
Taboo: The Sixth Sense
Werewolf: The Last Warrior
Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll
Castle of Dragon
Pipe Dream
Iron Tank: The Invasion of Normandy
Ultimate Air Combat
F-15 Strike Eagle
Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing
Bandai Golf: Challenge Pebble Beach
Athletic World
Super Team Games
M.C. Kids
Spot: The Video Game
Mad Max
Jeopardy! Junior Edition
Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular
The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout
Sesame Street: Big Bird's Hide & Speak
Fisher-Price: Perfect Fit
...and some weird unlicensed game called Impossible Mission II.

The five games at the top of this list were things I've been trying to hunt down for ages—StarTropics and Bubble Bobble because they're good games, and the other three because they're all classic games from 1987, which is old as fuck, and I've always wanted to collect all of the oldest ones from the '80s. We only need 43 more before we can say we own the entire '80s collection (although there's one in particular—Stadium Events—that we'll never get).

Taboo: The Sixth Sense is neat because it's not a game, but a tarot card simulator. It's supposed to read your future or something, and I guess there's urban legends about it predicting people's murders, or some shit like that? So that's fun.

Iron Tank is interesting in that it's actually a sequel to a game called TNK III, which marked the debut of Ralf Jones, who is one of the Ikari Warriors, who would later go on to star in series like Metal Slug and The King of Fighters. I've always appreciated how basically every SNK game ever is part of a shared universe. I think that's super cool.

M.C. Kids and Spot: The Video Game complete the "corporate food industry" trilogy, as it were, since I've had Yo! Noid in the collection for a very long time. I don't believe there's any more of these to get, so I think I have them all now. These games are sponsored by McDonald's, 7-Up, and Domino's respectively, which is pretty funny. Unfortunately, the cartridge for M.C. Kids is pretty fucked up around where the PCB is. The PCB itself appears to be fine, but it's exposed and difficult to insert, so I'm gonna have to figure out how to replace the casing... but unfortunately, it's broken along the label side, so it'll be difficult to find a solution that keeps the label intact.

You'd never guess the most valuable game in this batch: it's Athletic World. Similar to World Class Track Meet, this is one of those track & field games that requires you to have a peripheral known as the Power Pad. It's basically a DDR pad that produces controller inputs by stepping on it. There's only a handful of games that require it, and it's certainly an interesting relic of technology, but it's not actually why this particular game is valuable.

Really, it's just because of the label. If you have a loose Athletic World cartridge, and it doesn't say the words "Family Fun Fitness" (FFF) on the cover, then the game is only gonna go for about $10. If you do have that label, however, the game shoots up to about $85 loose... and the one we picked up just so happens to have the FFF label, making it the second most valuable NES game in our collection (behind Stack-Up, still valued at about $100 loose).

I don't even think the poor guy who sold it to us even realized, but that's the game. Gotta be on top of that shit.

Progress: 377/678 (56%)

Their grounds aren’t even valid; there’s nothing illegal about running modded ROMs of Melee to work with Slippi.
not to say that nintendo shouldn't let these things slide, especially during times like these, but i think it's a little disingenuous to argue that people aren't running pirated copies of smash to play it online, or that using unauthorized ROMs in general still isn't in a big legal grey area

it's shitty and nintendo sucks, but i don't necessarily agree that their grounds are invalid from a strictly legal standpoint

this is the sort of thing that should only be argued from an ethical standpoint imo
