I'm not saying we're quite there yet, but we're close. I think the Alola forms are a great way of sidestepping that issue, if it even is one (I could just be overthinking it).

I mean, there has to be a few of those stupid creatures based on inanimate objects, though. They've always been around, and they're never gonna stop. Might as well expect them. I think the sandcastle is a fuck of a lot better than Kefki (least favorite Pokémon of all time).
I was kinda hoping they wouldn't go too overboard with theming every Pokémon around a tropical island, though. X/Y had Furfrou and Aromatisse, but it didn't go overboard on the France thing. Unova had Braviary and... Garbodor, but it didn't go overboard on the US theme.
If you go too overboard, it makes it seem less like a generation, and more like a holiday-themed expansion pack or some shit. Next generation is gonna be based around holidays. We'll have Christmas Pokémon when it's not even Christmas.

Among other things, the update introduces a new reminder not to play the game while driving a car. Playing a video game while driving, or doing anything else that distracts you, is a bad idea.
The patch notes were listed on the official Niantic website and are listed below. In addition to the new reminder not to play "while traveling above a certain speed," there are bug fixes and the ability to change your nickname. It's not mentioned in the patch notes, but apparently the "Nearby" feature is gone, replaced by "Sightings."
Pokemon Go August 8 Patch Notes:
- Added a dialog to remind Trainers that they should not play while traveling above a certain speed. Trainers must confirm they are not driving in order to continue playing.
- Made improvements to the accuracy of a curveball throw
- Fixed a bug that prevented ”Nice,” ”Great,” and “Excellent” Poké Ball throws from awarding the appropriate XP bonuses.
- Fixed achievements showing incorrect Medal icons.
- Enabled the ability for Trainers to change their nickname one time. Please choose your new nickname wisely.
- Resolved issues with the battery saver mode on iOS and re-enabled the feature.
- Added visuals of Team Leaders Candela, Blanche, and Spark.
- We’re currently testing a variation of the “Nearby Pokémon” feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI.
- Minor text fixes

Yeah. Worry Seed would also have the same effect. Two issues, though:
1. Sacrificing one of your teammate's moveslots for an otherwise useless move may not be the best idea, and
2. The effect wears off as soon as you switch out, so you'd have to keep reapplying it, which is pretty unwieldy.
Sounds like a fun strat, though. I haven't thought of that before. Perhaps Regigigas would make a better beneficiary.
Regigas won't work. Getting rid of Slow Start means you won't get the good stats. It needs to take those 5 turns to get going.
Nah, that's how it worked in the Japanese version, but they fixed it. If this Ability is replaced due to a move like Skill Swap or Worry Seed or suppressed by Gastro Acid, the Pokémon's stats return to normal.
In the Japanese version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, removing Slow Start does not undo the Attack and Speed drop; it must still wait five turns. This was changed in localized versions as well as in Platinum.
