for starters, NMS had 20 developers--so it was kinda bound to flop the game's disappointment is rooted almost entirely with the developer's broken promises this is Team ICO, and as far as i know, no big promises about the game have been made the game has been been hyped up to high hell, but there is no way it'll be as reviled as NMS was

I'm guessing that UBs =/= Pokémon. They're entirely separate creatures--which has a lot of interesting implications.
If you can catch them, you won't be able to use Poké Balls--there'll be some other way.
What's more interesting is that, judging by their designs so far, it looks to me like they're going in a completely different direction. They don't look anything like how a Pokémon should look; they look more like something out of a Shin Megami Tensei game. Which isn't a bad thing; it's actually kind of exciting.
Maybe at this point, they figured that the typical Pokémon's cutesy/cartoonish/relatable designs are too limiting. So, by introducing an entirely new life form, they're no longer burdened by this restriction. Whereas most Pokémon are based off of familiar, recognizable elements of real life, the UBs we've seen so far are just so bizarre-looking, in a cool and mysterious way. Like, what the fuck is UB-01 supposed to be? Some kind of jellyfish alien thing?
I can only hope future UBs will introduce some eldritch Lovecraftian shit down the line. Judging by the serial coding of "01," "02," etc. it's safe to assume that there'll be at least 10 of these things. Pretty exciting.
