Fuck man I really want to use Hawlucha but I can't think of a good setup for it. Goddamn I wish he had a mega.
Ooh, how about this: Hawlucha @ Power Herb Ability: Unburden EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Acrobatics - High Jump Kick - Sky Attack - Drain Punch/Swords Dance Power Herb lets you use Sky Attack right away, but only once. Then Unburden will trigger, and you can start going ham with Acrobatics and High Jump Kick after a Swords Dance, or maybe have Drain Punch for longevity's sake, and if you don't like HJK's accuracy.

If Gems were still a thing, Flying Gem + Unburden + Acrobatics would've made for a pretty nice combo. The only other disposable items I can think of that would work similarly are Sitrus Berry and Focus Sash.

I've never been a massive SF guy but I saw it on Netflix one day and really enjoyed it. The movie's version of Ken's theme was great.
Yeah. I think you'd love SF5's music. Actually, you probably heard some of it already...

I'd say winter begins November 20th, spring begins March 1st, and summer begins June 1st
but why
because that's how the fucking months work
december is cold and winterlike, google image search "december" and see if you see leaves and turkeys or snow and christmas trees
but didn't you just say it has nothing to do with the weather

The date determines when fall starts and ends, not the weather.
That date is September 1st, not September 22nd.
This isn't hard.
why do you pick this date does winter begin december 1st what about spring

I find his descriptions and general obtuseness kinda funny.

Verb what did you think of Assasin's Fist
I never watched all of it, but I dug what I saw. It's easily the best attempt at live-action Street Fighter yet. And I enjoyed the '94 movie.

Why not?
Let's forget bad relatives, why should you cut ties with your parents and brothers/sisters? They're the most important people in the world.
Just one of my cousins is worth more than one hundred people to me.
see, that's the exact mentality that i try to avoid--nepotism, proximity bias no one person is worth more than another just because you happen to be close to them--all those hundreds of people you're disregarding have families, too i and many others prefer to just place everyone on equal footing--i'm not saying you have to "cut ties" with your family, and you certainly don't have to stop loving them, but you've gone too far when you start saying things like "they're worth more to me than hundreds by default"

Why not?
Don't you value your family? Family is what civilization is made of.
i value my family in the sense that they've provided for me for two decades, and that they raised me reasonably well but i don't think it's always necessary to maintain any kind of close relationship with your family if that's not what you're about personally, i'm lucky to have a family which i'm happy to be a part of--just to be clear

I guess that makes sense, but its still a valid criticism in a movie. One that goes out of it's way to be artsy for the sake of being artsy, without actually saying or doing anything substantial. I just think it shows an unwillingness to understand what the director was going for with a particular shot. It's easy to look at an "artsy" scene and think "Wow, this is so stupid and pretentious and doesn't add anything to the movie," but how hard are you actually trying to find meaning in the scene? Unless you're of the opinion that you shouldn't have to think too hard about movies, and I'd fundamentally disagree with that. You would probably despise Lars von Trier.

You do realize they're trying to calm your anxieties about driving? Good god dude. No, they're not "trying" anything. They're exerting the minimum effort to say, "You don't matter enough to me to tell you the straight-up truth, so I'm going to engage in meaningless niceties that society has deemed 'polite' so I can convince myself that I'm a good, honest, helpful, and thoughtful person." It just communicates to me that they don't give a fuck about me or my feelings. Which, no one has to. I just wish people were more honest about it.

you can, but one reason makes the film needlessly pretentious and one doesn't
this whole "you just say it as a synoynm for dislike" business is asinine - I would just say I disliked the movie
I just don't see how it's even a problem if a director is pretentious while simultaneously having something to be pretentious about. If a movie kicks ass on every level, the director has a right to be proud of his work. You act like it's a bad thing or a criticism, when it's not. I can't think of a single conventionally good movie that prefers style over substance, and I don't even think preferring style over substance necessarily makes you pretentious. Pretentious is when someone makes a style-over-substance movie, yet claims otherwise. He claims that it has more substance than it does. But if a director makes a flashy action movie that's very stylish and self-indulgent, it's not pretentious if the director acknowledges that.

everything you do in a film should contribute to what the film is about or what it's trying to express
if the main character is clinically depressed and the movie is in black and white, the style has a content reason
if it's just because the creator thought it looked cool, that's being pretentious
You can do it for both reasons. I can't think of a single notable director who doesn't do it for both reasons.

Still waiting for mine.
I was actually really hoping that I'd get in a crash the first time I went on the road--just so I could see the faces of all those fucking idiots who said shit like, "You'll be fine" and "Driving is fun, you won't crash" to me. Just lazy bullshit lies that I would be perfectly cool with proving wrong. Just to see how much they care when I actually do get in a crash. Just to see what platitudes they'll say then.
If no one can just look me in the eye and tell me the truth--"You might get in a crash if you're not careful"--that's all anyone has ever had to say to me, but they haven't--if no one can say that, I'd love to see what they'd say then.

when something is done for style alone, and no content reason, it's pretentious
not personal dislike or like that's pretty dumb Sometimes you just wanna do cool shit, because it's fun, and it takes talent and vision.

When the movie clearly parades itself around with unnecessary camera angles, concepts, or cinematic techniques that while flashy, serve no use in the broader themes or meanings of the film. It's like if I wrote a novel and used a cursive font for the entire text.
maybe you want to give the impression that the entire story is some character's diary--that's not pretentious anyway, it seems that i was right you personally deem those techniques unnecessary (ie. you don't like them) and that = pretentious that's a very pretentious way of going about expressing your dislike of a film

obsessed with itself, thinks it's the best thing ever even before it's released, etc
really not a hard phrase to grasp
you just keep piling on more meaningless definitions "obsessed with itself"--what does that mean how can a movie be obsessed with itself it's not a hard phrase to grasp if you look at it from the perspective of some dumb philistine, sure but for someone who understands what art is, it's completely meaningless
13855
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:52:42 AM »
pretension to me has always just meant that the artist thinks highly of his own art--artistic narcissism
it's a word to describe the artist, not the art itself
13856
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:46:52 AM »
maybe that's just you being triggered by a word a lot of people use correctly
pretentious is a very specific word that refers to when something is so full of itself yet masquerades as high-high-concept art. Which fits Memento to a t.
i haven't seen the movie so i can't comment on that "full of itself" is another meaningless term, though literally what does that even mean
13857
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:42:52 AM »
you kinda do
even if I did come up with it, who cares? I wouldn't have the means to produce a film around it
i'm just saying--the word "pretentious" just gets thrown around all the time, and it seems like another non-word to describe anything that you don't like, anything you don't understand, or anything you wish you had the talent to write or come up with, and the wherewithal to make it work
13858

Memento is so pretentious and overrated
The Prestige is his best one
"pretentious" has become code for "i wish i came up with that"
I'm not a screenwriter
you don't have to be x to be envious of people who are that's kind of the whole point of envy, actually
