I mean, I'm not voting for her, but you know what I mean. Trump supporters might have it in their head that attending his rallies will somehow secure his victory, when in reality, they were supporting Trump anyway--so nothing changes. Meanwhile, Hillary's supporters are already confident enough that she will win regardless of whether they attend her rallies. Just the way I see it, I could be wrong.

I've heard worse analogies. I think there's a distinction between simply lacking self-control and actively taking a stance against self-control. He's a hedonist, and he knows and embraces that. Hedonists tend to be very ambitious, and climbing Mt. Everest is more ambitious than climbing anything else. Carpe diem, and such. It would take a degree of self-restraint for a person who wants to climb Mt. Everest to not ever actually try it (because, spoiler alert, trying to climb Mt. Everest is dumb as fuck).
