Bras are a cultural thing? Or are they specifically designed for women.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_bra
Yes a majority of men wear bras and we obviously think of men when we think of bras
That's not the point, though, is it?

Men can wear bras. It's certainly not a normal thing, but a thing nonetheless.

He's talking about the father is the first quote unless I misread that which I'm sure the OP will correct me if I did
No, he's not.

Challenger said, "If it was up to OP he'd be wearing dresses next." OP then denied this.

Good, encourage it, don't let a kid grow up thinking there's anything weird about crossdressing. That's how homophobes are born.

Are you fucking retarded?

He is, yes.
i mean, is he wrong about there not being anything inherently wrong with cross dressing?
Because clothes for women aren't for men. It's just ridiculous. They're designed for women. Sure, a man could wear them, the same way he could wear a fucking dog harness.

If we're gonna go down that route you might as well make clothes that are gender neutral.
the thing is, it's really a one-sided issue; no one these days except maybe the most conservative middle aged people really cares when women wear clothing that lean more to the masculine side (see: tomboys)

it shouldn't be a big deal. what clothes are feminine and what clothes are masculine are a cultural thing-- they're not inherent. and yeah some cultural standards like "don't rape people" or "don't sacrifice your children to gods" are pretty important but when it comes to something as benign as men wearing skirts or whatever it shouldn't be seen as wrong when it's just a person being themselves and not harming anybody in the process
this isn't the serious board goddam let us have fun
they're having a conversation

What's wrong about it is the fact that they're taking pleasure in knowing they're violating a taboo and that's unhealthy
Not if the taboo is harmless and arbitrary.

HOLY FUCK everyone in this thread except Ian is fucking dumb as shit.

Street Fighter V:

Because Shitcom is an absolute joke of a company, this game has sooo many issues that need to be ironed out ASAP for Season 2. It's hard to pick just one thing, but I think the DLC characters desperately need a balancing overhaul. They're all pretty bad.
i actually despise capcom
#1 on my shitlist for sure.

Well, maybe #2, because it's hard to argue they're worse than Konami, but they're still way up there.

I get really squeamish when I see childbirth-related and bloody stuff in games so the first time I saw this in Bloodborne I felt very uncomfortable.

Bloodborne really seems like it tries too hard to get that edge in.

Like, apparently you can pick up umbilical cords as items? WOAH THAT'S SO METAL xDDD
fuck that's metal

Serious / Re: Emotional Appeals
« on: November 03, 2016, 01:09:06 PM »
In all my debating and english classes, emotional appeals were among the first types of arguments taught in persuasive writing. The effect will vary from person to person in a genuine argument (namely because people tend to get angry and personally insult you the moment they feel they're at a disadvantage) but I never really gave it a second thought in trying to get better marks.
Pathos is good for the blackmailer, the brown-noser, the religious nut, the lawyer, the salesman, the politician, the journalist, the storyteller, the artist, and the liar--there's basically nothing else.

« on: November 03, 2016, 09:04:32 AM »
why is logic put at a higher pedistel than emotion?
the two concepts go hand in hand in the very end
At least you have THIS guy on your side, Turkey. Feel good about that?
He's right though.

Emotionless writing of any kind comes off as soulless, disinteresting and far less likely to persuade your reader to your stance/argument/belief.
Yes, if you're a moron. Which is my point. I never denied that pathos is persuasive--just that you're an idiot if you're swayed by it. It's a mode where you insult your audience's intelligence. So no, he's not right. I'm right.

Yeah, it's fucky, and fallacious, but that's rhetoric. It's the art of effective persuasion, which is basically code for deception. Turns out, one of the most effective ways to persuade and deceive people is to pull at their heartstrings. No one ever said rhetoric had to be honest or fair.

>sport where winner is determined by the amount of roids they took
This isn't the 90s anymore lol

And MLB has super strict PED tests/rules these days. First offense is suspension for 50 games, second offense is a 162 game suspension and can't play in the postseason, and the third offense is a lifetime ban from MLB.
i wonder how they arrived at 162 games for a second offense

Every single time you pick up a missile upgrade in Super Metroid, an interminable textbox appears, teaching you how to use them for the 497th goddamn time.

This Nintendo-ism is present in a lot of games, unfortunately.

Hell no, baseball salaries are nearly double that of NFL players.
NFL is just 10x more popular here (ugh) than any other major league sport, so that's always just been my perception

obviously i'm not gonna know these things

Progressive Field (the Indian's stadium) has been open for nearly 25 years now and there are no plans to touch it (yet, at least).

Honestly, only baseball field that's getting dumped right now iirc is the Braves' Turner Field by the new Suntrust Park, which is perfect timing considering that the Mercedes-Benz Stadium is replacing the Georgia Dome at the same time.

Salaries are a much better thing to complain about than a new park once every generation or two.
agreed, that shit's absurd

though i imagine MLB players get payed relatively less than NFL or NBA players, just because fewer people seem to care about baseball these days

could be totally wrong though

Verbatim's hated for sports I still find silly, but at least he can respect that baseball players are classy.
They are, I was impressed. I take sportsmanship seriously because it shows that the players are adults who all understand that it's just a game. They're not gonna throw shit around or cause riots if they lose.

if people like the sport itself so much, then cut the stadium budget in half and give the proceeds to something that helps society
Wrigley opened over a century ago, and they're only renovating it instead of building a new one. Feel like they're doing dandy in terms of stadium budgeting.
wrigley's one stadium though

To put it bluntly, looking at the two versions displayed of so called "spitefulness," there's a clear cut difference.

One version could lightly be considered as being a dickhead about things.

And the other is merely pointing that out in a reserved and respectful manner.

That's why it's okay. If Luci came out with the same obnoxious tone then it wouldn't be.
The principle that it's unacceptable to dislike something that's popular is still implicitly there, though.
