Marine biologists prefer that you call them "jellies" because they're not fish in any way/shape/form. "Jellyfish" being the common name doesn't make it any less technically wrong--it's just that nobody cares.

and in this case chances are most people aren't going to know what a "demisexual" is because it's not an actual sexuality. it would be like if you made up your own name for jellyfish and only called them that within a small circle of people and you know and then started proclaiming it's the actual commonly accepted name for them

I'm not aware of anyone proclaiming it's the commonly-accepted term--just that it is a term that can be used if you please.
