Religion need not have a god or scripture. You do however follow a rigid set of beliefs on humanity, which is almost cult like.
but it's not a religion

the more you say it is, the more obvious it becomes that you don't know the first thing about religion

i know a couple theologians--maybe i'll show them some of your statements so that they can have a good laugh

Quote
You aren't really making an argument, it's just you saying "no" to my "yes".
because i know more about my own beliefs than you do

Quote
As in determinism has religious tendencies, it's religious like in nature.
like what

nothing

because it's nowhere near religion

it's one simple belief

Quote
So we have free will.
nope

Quote
But how can you hold someone accountable if everything is "determined"?

Under this philosophy, if I shoot a baby, it would be wrong to hold me accountable. I had no choice in the matter. I was always going to shoot that baby.
i already addressed this retarded baby-like point in a previous post

and yes, you really do have a baby-like understanding of this subject, that's not even an insult

Quote
But how can you justify this simply because we can suffer?
because suffering is bad

it's that simple

So I forgot to ask people

I mentioned that I felt most of the movie was pretty boring (though the ending was one of the most intense moments I think I've seen in any movie), but I think I know why

Rey in episode 7 was written rather... not so amazing, yes, but the actress Daisy Ridley did a fantastic job with her charisma and all that, thus making her acceptable. Plus I'm forgiving since it's the start of a trilogy, so they'll flesh her out more. Anyway, anyone else feel that the Jyn (main girl) was just... dull? Like a lot of the characters. I guess it was the direction they took since bleak, Saving Private Ryan tier kinda thing, but still. I just found it hard to care about really ANY of them, especially the other main guy Cassian Andor (especially since he straight up murders someone). I just... did not feel a thing for this guy at all.

And another thing, why did Forest Whitaker say he was tired of running, like he'd stand up to a big bad evil, when it was just a massive explosion? I'd understand it more if he was facing down a lot of Storm Troopers or something and went HAM before dying, but eh. I'm echoing too much of RLM, but the boring movie/boring characters thing is something I've really always felt.

I felt the only stand out people were Chirrut Îmwen (I am the Force guy. I actually enjoyed his mysticism in an otherwise bleak universe. Like he was the flicker of hope, a reminder of what was lost, and what could be found), Orson Krennic, and I guess the Droid. Yeah, the droid. I only felt a flicker of something when those guys actually kicked the bucket, because they at least had some pretty interesting personalities to them, even if one was just the comic relief.
The characters were definitely the most underwhelming part, yeah, but I thought Jyn was all right (it helps that she's a qt).

I think they were receptive to the Mary Sue complaints of Rey (she's not a Mary Sue but w/e) by giving Jyn a lot of obvious character flaws and having her outright make a dumb, human mistake during one part: in her stupor of seeing her father again, she failed to retrieve the hologram when she absolutely needed to.

If Device A completes in 30 minutes, Device B completes in 35 minutes, Device C1  completes in 2 hours, and Device C2 completes in 2 hours-- all else being equal-- what does that say? It's not an issue with the internet service, as it's consistent across all devices and Device C clearly has a different result than the other two. It's not a hardware issue with that particular unit, as both units of Device C have the same result.

It's not length of time that is the issue, it's length of time comparatively to other devices.
I have pretty cheap Internet; I live a cheap life. So if I were foolish enough to have an Xbox One, and I downloaded something on it, you're telling me it would be near-instant? Since PS4 downloads are so lightning fast for me, I should be able to download anything on XBL instantly. Right?

Meanwhile, it usually takes longer than 30 minutes to download anything more than 5 gigabytes on this laptop. So clearly I must be living on a different planet or something.

When I downloaded Let It Die, that's how long it took (the first part, not the 16gB second-half) and it only happens on PS4. I'm not saying that it's that long for everyone, which would be silly. Different people have different connection speeds. But for a noticeably higher time using the same connection as other devices, it's a problem.
A personal one--not something we should be blaming PSN for, is my point.

i'm telling you that it isn't

SOME determinists may very well be religious, but i'm not

what reason would i have to bullshit about this

Quote
So why are you pushing this idea of "hard determinism"? Are you all of a sudden amoral?
i'm not amoral because even though everything is predetermined, we still experience life as though we had free will, and we can suffer intensely

it's because we suffer intensely that i'm not amoral

if we couldn't feel, or if feeling didn't matter, then yeah, i'd be a straight-up nihilist

How far you go out of your way to get riled up on the Internet and try to make others angry is just hilarious.

I know the feeling. Took about nine hours to download an 8gB game on PS4 when it would take about two hours to download the same thing on PC or 360.

It's still an improvement over the PS3, although that's not saying much.
This sounded so far-fetched when I first read it, that I had to wait for a big update to verify it. I just downlaoded a 7.6 gigabyte update for SFV.

Literally took ~30 minutes. Is that unreasonable? Because either the "nine hours" was a crazy exaggeration and you guys just have less patience than Dr. Tuchiskidz, or you're legitimately having to wait that long, and it's just a personal problem, not PSN's problem. I think, personally, I can handle waiting a little over the length of my average shower to play a video game.

>Hillary had the most faithless electors since James Madison 200 over years ago.

Every time I think she can't possibly get any more BTFO, she still keeps on getting more and more BTFO, and it's fucking amazing.
Still won the popular vote fair and square. If we weren't a shit country, that would've made her president.
Trump led everywhere but California. America is a federal nation, comprised of constitutionally sovereign states. Allowing California to strongarm the rest of the country would be ridiculous.
No it wouldn't. Why SHOULDN'T the most populous state strongarm the rest of the country?
Because America is a collection of sovereign states, as set out by the Constitution.
Then we need to fix that.
You think America should be a unitary state merely because Trump won?
Whatever it takes. And no, not just because Trump "won." The day I learned about the EC some ten years ago, I wanted it abolished. It's only time and time again that I'm provided with more reasons to.

11592
And just so that we don't lose sight of the original point being made here: Sexual content and violent content is like apples and oranges. It is silly to decry the censorship of sex in media if you're going at it from the angle of, "If violence is okay, nudity should be okay too!"

Why? They're two completely different things that have completely different psychological effects. Depictions of violence being totally harmless, and depictions of sex being insidiously detrimental.

This is dumb because:

- it's based entirely around your own views on sexuality and its portrayal, which I think are pretty stupid and warp this entire discussion from the start. I think they affect your ability to look at this neutrally.
I could say the exact same thing about you, right here. "This is dumb because your views on sexuality and its portrayal are pretty stupid. If you saw it my way (the correct way), you wouldn't be saying this." Do you see how useless that is?
Quote
- I never said it's not the responsibility of the parents to keep little Timmy from playing those games or that we shouldn't have some kind of rating system.
I never said that you did.
Quote
- I never said violent games make children violent.
I never said that you did. But that appears to be the argument you're trying to make, regardless, so I'll be asking you to defend yourself there.
Quote
And no, I don't consider this common sense at all.
It is, though, so... Whose problem is that?

Yours.
Quote
The US is often very prude when compared to other countries and even when compared to one of the most sexually open countries in the world like France, it still sees 70% more rapes (accounting for population). You're so eager to dismiss any suggestion of kids being influenced by exposure to violence as patently ridiculous to the point that we even have to "get real" about it, but god forbid that little Timmy sees a nipple or vagina because it's almost "common fucking sense" that it might turn him into a sexual predator.
You're twisting my words. I never said it would turn him into a sexual predator. I said it could easily turn him into a sexual deviant, which is a slippery slope in and of itself that we won't get into.
Quote
Come on Verb, you can see how ridiculous that is and how your very negative views about sexuality might play a part in why you're seeing it this way.
That doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Really. It doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Sometimes people with innate biases are right about those biases.
Quote
I don't see how watching a prostitute on the floor is a display of such REAL behavior
I didn't say it was real behavior. I said that vaginas are real. And depending on how nascent you are, you may not have even seen a vagina (and understood what you were looking at--the dangerous part) until playing this game. I'm not sure when you first learned what a vagina was, but it wasn't too early for me.
Quote
You could even argue that violence is even more life-like to little children than sex is, as they kick, push, rustle and get into fights with each other all the time as opposed to them being involved in sexual behavior.
And they do that just as well without the media influencing it. Kids get rough with each other, yes--this is also common knowledge. It has little to nothing to do with the media.

Here's a study you will brush off as biased or outdated.
Here's another.

2 seconds of Googling, dozens of articles and studies, couple days of research, and I'm to believe this isn't common knowledge. Granted, a lot of these studies focus on movies or media as a whole (and a lot of the studies have a fucking paywall obstructing them), but I'd argue "video games" are close enough to movies that they'd create similar or exacerbatory effects.

Now I suppose it's your turn to demonstrate how violent video games cause violent behavior in a similar fashion.

No, if someone consents to being eaten, then that's the end of it. Consent is everything.
If you're girlfriend doesn't want to have sex with you, and would suffer emotionally from it, but consents anyway because she doesn't want to lose you. . . You're a scumbag if you have sex with her.
I'd be a scumbag, but it's still her fault for not having the autonomy or the spine to say no. Either way, that sounds like I'm coercing her--something I would never ever do. If I don't know she doesn't want to have sex, then I can't be blamed. If I know she doesn't actually want to have sex, I wouldn't on principle. But I'd consider breaking up with her for lacking a fucking backbone. I mean, gimme a fucking break. I'm not PSU--I can handle being turned down for sex.

So yeah, consent is still everything. Is there nuance? Yeah, but not enough to change anything.

Verb BTFO
I've never been blown the fuck out in my life. Especially not here. Especially not by Meta.

I like how they made the AT-AT's more into the juggernauts they're supposed to be. Hoth didn't really do them the right amount of justice.
These AT-ATs were different types. They had more armor but less firepower than the ones on Hoth.

And how were the Hoth ones not doing any justice? They were shooting those super fast snowspeeders out of the sky and destroyed that Rebel base. I think only 2 AT-ATs were destroyed in that attack whereas in Rogue One they were getting destroyed left and right.

Yeah that post had to have been sarcasm.

An x wing took out an at-at by itself. Like zero effort too.
Oh yeah

I was thinking it ate the rocket and took it like nothing, but yeah then that immediately happened. Nvm.
I don't remember how the scene went exactly, but after it ate the rocket, did it not create a big gaping weak point to be shot at?
Nope just leaves a bit of scorching, doesn't even break the gun it directly hits because it fires from it again until the X-Wing shoots it.
Meh. I'll guess we'll just have to buy the "it was a weaker model" explanation.

Worse or the same as X & Y?
I'm being sarcastic and making fun of people like Husky who fell for the "gen 7 has no post-game" meme.

The post-game is adequate--nowhere on the level of gen 2 or Emerald, but not nearly as barren as gen 6. It's there.

How can you say she won the popular vote if not even half the eligible voters voted on election day? I'll only agree to that statement only if 99.9% of eligible voters voted.
Why do you think so many people choose not to vote? Because they don't want to. Either they're not interested, they don't care about politics, they don't know enough about the candidates, they don't consider themselves qualified, they don't like democracy, or they literally cannot choose and are willfully abstaining.

Why is it a good idea to force these people who don't have an opinion to have an opinion?

Do you think that's an accurate representation of what the public wants/needs?
