it's not a problem when grammar is intentionally broken to create an effect, though

or if it's a dialect thing, because that just lets you know where the band is from in a way

>i can't get no satisfaction

despite being an english band, the rolling stones were obviously inspired by a lot of old american blues bands, so the use of the double negative here contributes to the song's appeal by invoking (through dialect) the cool yet rough-around-the-edges attitude of the american south, from which this style of music originated

therefore it's cool

>can i be as my god am
>can you be as god am

this one is probably my favorite example of grammar being broken for the sake of wordplay

by using "am" instead of "is," layne staley creates a play on the term "goddamn," an expression of frustration at the difficulties of heroin addiction, while simultaneously asking if such difficulties can only be overcome by achieving god's level of power (or something like that)

so that's cool too

it's only ever a problem for me when it makes the singer sound like an actual dumbass

subjunctive clause violations are generally pretty forgivable, but nonetheless

so i beat the game, finally

6/10, i think

definitely the worst and most underwhelming games in the main series so far, but not as bad as reddit wants you to think

i have some more in-depth thoughts that i might divulge later, but i'll leave at this for now
what did you think of the battle against the unbeatable™ champion?

Spoiler
i actually found it enjoyable, i was surprised to see his team competently leveled with mine

my strongest pokemon was only, like, 2 levels higher than his, and i barely won the battle with 2 (both badly weakened) pokes
yeah, i had a similar experience

Spoiler
despite what i said before about keeping myself from getting too overleveled, there eventually came a point where i kinda stopped giving a shit (around semi-finals, which is probably the lowest point in the game), and i was pretty much one-shotting everything in my path and not really caring

then the champion fight happened, and just like you, i was pleasantly surprised that his team was stronger than mine

i still stealth rocked the shit out of his charizard, though, so that was funny

i still have around 45 pokemon to get before my dex is complete, so i can see myself continuing to play for the foreseeable future, which i genuinely cannot say for a lot of games that i'd consider to be a 6/10

getting tired of one-shotting so many opponents
l've legit been on a rotation of 18 different pokémon just to stay beneath the levels of my opponents

it's been fun and all, but i've never had to try so hard to keep from being overleveled

not that i care about difficulty that much in a pokémon game, but still

Where can I watch these rebuilds
And what are they, reboots?
starts out like an HD remaster of the show, but then goes in a completely different direction by the second movie while attempting to explore the same general themes

it's like if anno took his meds for the first two, but the third one goes near-EoE levels of fucking insane

the fourth and final one is coming out in 2020

i watch everything on kissanime because i'm a sick animal

the only thing i wish they expanded on a teensy bit more, as far as Rei goes, is her vegetarianism

when she mentioned how she dislikes meat in that one episode, it's one of the few times pre-climax where she actually states an opinion about something, as innocuous as it may seem

it also made me like her more as a character for obvious reasons

Spoiler
they do end up expanding on this a bit in the rebuilds, which is probably my favorite thing about them

1163
The Flood / Re: Evangelion
« on: December 11, 2019, 11:28:57 AM »
well, you do end up finding out that the reason she's like that is because she's an imperfect clone of gendo's wife

so sure, she doesn't really develop much in the traditional character-building sense, but it's not like the show doesn't provide any justification for that, which i think is its own kind of development

her presence provides a mystery that slowly gets unraveled over the course of the show

i think you might enjoy the rebuilds, actually, because it does sort of improve on these issues you have

1164
The Flood / Re: Evangelion

why is it that Rei and her likes are 'lesser' characters because they dont talk and emote all the time

isnt this a character type in itself?
it is, and a valid one, one that i prefer over loudmouth firebrands like asuka

but i think rei's robotic nature is clearly intended to be at least somewhat off-putting

though i don't consider that a bad thing either, i can see how some might, if they don't understand the point

1165
The Flood / Re: Evangelion
« on: December 10, 2019, 07:02:07 PM »
rei not really being much of a real character works out for me, because i like to think of her (and asuka, for that matter) as a representation of a popular archetype taken to their logical extreme

"what would happen if these typical anime girl personalities were taken as seriously as possible"

as it turns out, they'd probably be pretty fucked in the head, and the show demonstrates that very well

when people talk about how the show is a deconstruction, or how anno hates otakus and shit, i think this is what they're talking about, even if they're not fully correct about either of those two things

oh, that's fair enough i think

i watch subs almost exclusively because i just always prefer to hear the original audio of stuff, but i've never been an elitist about that, and i've never understood people who choose to be, since like you said, some people just find the text distracting

the only thing you really miss out on in this case is megumi ogata's phenomenal performance imo, besides the dialogue not always being one-to-one

1168
The Flood / Re: Evangelion

bear in mind that i mean "least likable character," i don't think asuka is badly written or anything

i just don't like tsunderes who are ALL tsun; i think the only nice thing she ever says is compliment shinji on his cello playing

a few more of those moments would've gone a long way for me, because i just found her insufferable for the entire show

which is tragic because you can tell they would've been better friends if not for their shitty circumstances; it's the epitome of a relationship starting off on the wrong foot and literally never correcting itself because they're just too fucking awkward

i remember watching the dance like you want to win episode for the first time, where shinji and asuka have to get over themselves and start getting along with each other so they can be in-sync, and i was expecting that development to last, but then it doesn't really, which always bugged me

yeah yeah her backstory is tragic and whatever but that doesn't make her likable imo; i can definitely appreciate the role she has in the story, but i could never call her a favorite character just based off of her personality alone

she was also sexualized a bit too much for my liking; i always dread those stupid panty/nude gags on rewatches

out of curiosity, did you watch the netflix subs? and if not, did you make sure to watch the director's cuts of the last few episodes

Of course
What’s your take on the ending?
Hopeful or nah?
it's definitely hopeful, almost to a fault really

if you have the opportunity to (basically) save everyone from their own lives, and are tempted to do so because of how shitty people are to each other, i think to ultimately reject it because of some notions of it "all being worth it in the end" would certainly require a semblance of hope in your heart

though i relate with shinji a lot, i'd have to say that shinji's choice to abandon instrumentality and start life anew is where we kind of diverge, since i don't really share that hope and i'd be perfectly content living as a puddle of tang for the rest of time if it meant nobody ever had to feel pain again

i can certainly understand the decision from a storytelling standpoint, though, and i can appreciate that shinji wound up giving everybody the choice to return if they were so inclined to come back

i wasn't actually expecting them to just end the world and leave it there--i'm not even sure if that's what i'd want
