david lynch, stanley kubrick, quentin tarantino (probably more his earlier stuff), hallmark names in breakthrough filmmaking because of their impact, not to mention they had quite a lot of sexual themes in their films too Well yeah, of course. The line "crude depiction of sexuality" that I used earlier matters here. If your art contains something "uncomfortable" in it, it's generally okay as long as it has some kind of artistic meaning or significance to the plot (at the very least). Scenes where characters engage in graphic depictions of drug use (needle injection, coke-snorting, etc.) trigger the fuck out of me, yet the Wolf of Wall Street is a fantastic movie and Requiem for a Dream is in my top 3 favorite films of all time. They have graphic depictions of drug use, sure, but they're absolutely integral to the plot and--in Requiem's case--have symbolic, artistic significance. Without which they'd be overall worse movies. The problem is this: There is no artistic meaning behind 2B's ass. It's only there for the male gaze--period. The kind of scenes I'm talking about are scenes that don't add anything to the work of art, beyond pleasing a heterosexual male audience. In the case of a pointless defecation scene, this pleases almost nobody, because nobody wants to see a defecation scene in Iron Man 4. It's unnecessary. Nobody wants it. It couldn't possibly have any use, meaning, or significance unless you forced it--and that's never good. But yeah, if you can find some meaningful or artistic way to have sexual content in your movie, I can find that acceptable and even tasteful, depending on how it's executed. But it SO rarely is. Especially when it comes to video games.
