It's a compilation and analysis of stastical data and empirical evidence.*Inhales* Ahhh! That site is full of credibility and unbiased media! : DIf you're interested in reading more, I can definitely suggest this site. It usually goes very in depth and provides detailed and sound rebuttals debunking a lot of the most common pro-gun arguments, such as the "more guns = less crime" one.I'm not so much questioning the data, but I think you can do better with some of these sources Meta.I'm in the middle of revising my position in light of Flee's data. It is rather clear that they are in support of gun control to a certain degree, but that doesn't mean their source material is wrong. 9423

Apply yourself better.
Even if this class is "below your level", which might be true or not, your attitude and image greatly influences how your teachers think of you and end up treating you. Even if this teacher isn't the one who's directly involved in you graduating, antagonising her by openly sleeping in her class and having this "fuck everything, see if I care" attitude really isn't going to help. 9431

Serious / Re: Capital Punishment« on: February 19, 2015, 04:12:40 AM »It's catching up. Not all states still have or apply the death sentence and the amount of actual executions and convictions has been steadily declining over the years. It's mainly a few states (Texas, most notably) that still make up most of the country's capital sentences.(as it is perhaps the only first world country still applying the death penalty)How surprising that America is behind the rest of the Western world. 9435
Serious / Re: Capital Punishment« on: February 18, 2015, 06:41:55 PM »Well, I'm saying that if you want to definitively find out whether or not the death penalty is an actual deterrent, you'd probably have to apply it more. Just for reference sake, there are about 15,000 murders commited in the US every year. And if we're going to be honest, few crimes are considered as bad and as worthy of the death penalty as homicide. Yet for all these 15,000 homicides, there only are around 30 executions taking place a year. Looking at these numbers, the odds that you commiting such an awful crime is going to result in you being sentenced to death are so small that it is unlikely that anyone is not going to commit a crime because of the extremely small chance that he'd receive the death penalty for it.Also, Meta, one of the main issues with the death penalty (in all likelihood) not deterring any crime is the extremely small chance of actually being sentenced to death and being executed. This was a topic in my Criminal Sanctioning Law class last semester that partially dealt with a study showing that since there's only 35 executions in the US every year (for example), the odds that you'd ever get sentenced to death for anything other than the most heinous of crimes (serial rapists / torturers / killers, for example) are so remote that there is almost no way it would actually deter anyone. So, what you're saying is. . . We need to kill some more motherfuckers? And then there's also the clear difference of being sentenced to death and actually being executed. The numbers of actual executions has been consistently declining over the years, and so has the number of convictions to the death penalty, meaning that the current executions taking place are still the remnants of decisions made years or even decades ago. I can't remember the exact number, but the average time spent on death row is well over a decade, giving plenty of time for near endless retrials, procedures and appeals, making it even less likely that you're actually going to be executed. tl;dr: using the US as the obvious example (as it is perhaps the only first world country still applying the death penalty), we can make the pretty safe conclusion that the miniscule odds that you're actually going to be sentenced to death (and that is just being sentenced to it, not even considering whether or not you'll actually be executed too) for all but the most terrible of crimes, make it so that virtually not a single person is actually going to be deterred by the extremely remote possibility of the death penalty. 9436

Serious / Re: Make Britain safer; bring back handguns« on: February 18, 2015, 06:11:38 PM »Yeah, the illegal guns in Europe are definitely a pressing issue. And yet French police cadets can find an AK-47 on the streets within two hours.Evidently the cheese eating surrender monkeys across the Channel have a firearm homicide rate fairly equivalent to the UK at 0.06 per 100,000 people. And to my knowledge, handguns and semiautomatics can be purchased by civilians, provided you have the appropriate permits.Crucial aspect is that French citizens can only buy guns when they have a valid hunting or sporting permit. 9438
