Well, there are the recordings from the cockpit and the flight path that strongly suggest this isn't a mechanical issue.

Well he locked the pilot out, and you can hear the screams of passengers, so yeah...
Link?
On my phone now, so I'm not going to link stuff, but pretty much every news outlet has covered that. The captain briefly left the cockpit and found the door locked when he tried to come back in. He then tried to use the his key code to override the lock, at which point the co-pilot manually engaged the safety lock (which is only supposed to be used in emergencies like hijackers trying to gain access to the cockpit) and started to descend. When the captain realized they were rapidly descending, he tried kicking down the door to still get inside (which was obviously futile, as the doors to cockpits are all bulletproof and extremely sturdy after what happened at 9/11). The final moments of the flight, the passengers realized something was wrong and started screaming.
Says who? How do we know he engaged the manual lock?
are you even trying to do your own research

Again, apart from several news networks getting this from the exact same source, what proof do we have apart from them saying this happened?
The exact same source being the French authorities and French prosecution? Here's footage of the press conference where this information was released.

I don't se why you're so opposed to this. This isn't coming from the airline or any corporations or interest groups. This is coming directly from the French government. This is a very recent catastrophe. Of course the story is going to change and evolve as we get more information, but that doesn't mean that this is some kind of conspiracy or cover up trying to hide something.

Gaming / Re: What does Bloodborne do different than Dark Souls?
« on: March 27, 2015, 12:23:23 PM »
Why does everyone think DS2 was so hard? Shrine of Amana unpatched and the snowstorm area in the DLC were terrible, but other than that?
it wasn't that it was hard, it was that rather than making interesting boss mechanics they just did stuff like "here fight multiple bosses at once "

Dark souls 2 is much easier than dark souls 1 imo
Yeah, boss design is definitely lacking in most of DS2. There still are certain gems though, like Darklurker.
I really liked the Pursuer fight. It was what taught me to roll. I just wish 80% of the other bosses weren't just his knight mates.
Double Pursuers or bust.

Do we need to give pilots mandatory psych tests?
Pretty sure that's already a thing.
I have friends that are pilots. Can confirm.

It's a thing for US pilots. I don't know the status of it for other countries though.
Same in EU, I believe.

You're forgetting that the co-pilot engaged the manual lock. That's a key element right there.

How do the Souls fans think the game compares to DS1 and DES? Mainly in terms of the lack of variety in environments, weapons, equipment, armor and the removal of actual magic, miracles, pyromancies and hexes? The addition of limitless healing during PVP and the removal of aspects such as equipment burden and poise?

Sony already confirmed that any rumors of it ever coming to PC are false. It's staying exclusively on PS4.

I can only imagine how awful this must be for his parents. They first learn about a plane crash, 150 people dead. Then, they find out their son was actually on board as the first officer. They're brought over to France to be with the families of the other victims, visit the site and get support. While they're there, mourning with all the other people, they are taken aside by the police and informed that it's actually their son who is solely responsible for the death of all the other people on board, and that intended to take them all with him.

Ted Cruz is a great orator and brilliant speaker? The man knows how to talk and rile up a bunch of conservatives that'll fall for anyone who as much as claims that the gay is evil, I'll give you that, but he really isn't particularly outstanding from what I've seen. An impressive background for sure, but I'm not wowed by any of his speeches or debates that I have seen.

Have you heard and seen these things for yourself? Is it available to the public?
I assume that the recordings will be made available eventually. Either way, this isn't a media / airline coverup. It's not them who are in charge of the investigation. It's the French government, collaborating with a large number of other nations and international experts, that deals with this and released this information directly to the public in a press conference.

Besides, if the airline would be trying to cover this up, they're not doing a very good job at it. Instead of being blamed for a mechanical error, they are now going to be blamed for letting a person with (alledged) psychological issues and panic attacks fly an airplane with 150 people on board. It wouldn't make any sense.

Serious / Re: "We need more guns in the US!!"
« on: March 27, 2015, 08:29:55 AM »
And in some Black Helicopter-type scenario (which is what you're probably thinking of), the US would most likely cut out mass media (which is incredibly easy to do), so the population would be deprived of information. And information is power as we all know.
>internet
You do realize how easy it is to blackout the internet in a single country, right?

There goes the entire information network.
It's not something I know much about, but is there no way around a government blackout?
There are things like low frequency radio transmitters / receivers and such that there isn't anything the government could do about other than deliberately jam the signals, but these things are rather rare, complicated and not something the general public would use en masse. If the government wants to screw up communications and the internet on a large scale, they definitely could. There's ways around it, but the vast, vast majority of people would still be in the dark.

I usually just use lol, partially because it's an actual Dutch word meaning "fun".
The Dutch language is a meme
"Dank" in Dutch means "thanks" or "gratefulness". How's that for a meme language?

It's really not that easy, I'm afraid. We have to find the fine balance between upholding the rules and making this place enjoyable for everyone on the one hand, and not getting rid of our rather limited userbase on the other.
