Serious / Re: Censorship
« on: August 09, 2016, 06:46:05 PM »
Censorship is acceptable in several different scenarios, such as incitement to violence, NDA's, security clearance, intellectual property rights, harassment, defamation, licensing, endangerment...

So I'm not going to vote, because the poll is lacking and doesn't include a "yes, in certain cases" option.

The Flood / Re: Movies that critics dropped the ball on
« on: August 09, 2016, 06:21:45 AM »
The Empire Strikes Back. When it was initially released, it received mixed reviews from critics.

Thankfully, it is now recognized as one of the greatest films of all time, as it should be.
Y'know, I used to adore this film, and yeah, the critics were nowhere near the ballpark at the time, but idk if it warrants the critical acclaim it's recently gotten anymore. I mean it's a good film, don't get me wrong, just not the masterpiece it's made out to be. If you try not to look at it through the prism of nostalgia you'll begin to notice all it really did was reinvigorate the medieval knight's tale, with a twist.
This. The Star Wars films are great movies, but much of their acclaim really is unwarranted.

Seems like a good and balanced overview. I especially agree with the low-skilled workers ones. After being told over and over again how the EU bureaucrats are stealing their money, giving their jobs to immigrants and passing undemocratic bullshit laws screwing over the little man, they're likely to be hit the hardest by the post-Brexit hardships. It's a shame.

3934
Honest question for those who are more familiar with the EU: If the EU would have simply been a trade organization like NAFTA, CAFTA, etc. do you think there would have been the need for a Brexit in the first place?
I disagree with his final sentence, but Meta's right.

I didn't really expect it to fall, if people have got money to spend then chances are it's going to be spent.
It's when redundancies start flying and debt starts mounting that they become unable to spend money (as opposed to unwilling).
Yeah, this is good news but nothing unexpected. No one is going to go, "what a beautiful summer day, I think I'm going to go shopping for that new shirt I need and get an ice cream while I'm out! ...on second thought, the UK is expected to leave the EU by 2019, so maybe I shouldn't." As far as I understand, the concerns are that on the short term, Business To Business will continue to get more expensive and fall in activity (which will ultimately start affecting the consumer too) and that the uncertainty stops people from making major investments (cars, houses, property, loans...). For the longer term, people worry that the fall in business activity and squeeze of incomes will result in the economy continuing to shrink. But all of that is likely manageable, with the question on what'll happen after article 50 gets triggered being the deciding moment.

That was absolutely amazing, the best final I've ever seen. No doubt about it for me, Quake is hands down the best esport there is. If this was its last major tournament, it ended on a brilliant note. Well played Rapha, but props go out to Evil for the amazing plays. He would've definitely deserved that win.

I start off with a small spoiler, but if you keep up this trend I'm gonna spoil bigger things
you realize you can get banned for that, right
Yeah, but it's such a small spoiler that it can't be too severe

Oh and I'll sacrifice myself for the greater good
Intentional spoilers are against the rules. Use the spoiler tag. You received a 20% warning, the next one will receive a ban.
What did you even change in that reply? It says last edited by flee
You mentioned the spoiler again. Not literally, but you mentioned who it was and given the reaction people had, I figured that one line deserved to go anyways.

Damn the new quake game looks dope but I'll stick to casualwatch. No way I could ever be good at that
Most Quake players are not that happy with it yet, because most of the gameplay they showed was somewhat slow and sluggish. Strafejumping was only shown at the very end and none of the players were good. There should be actual people playing it at Quakecon later tonight, but it's not sure if it will be streamed for all to see. Still hopeful thoguh.

Fucking hell that game was great. Zero4 (USA) beats Fraze (Australia) 3-2 with 3 consecutive overtimes.

You're not alone. And as far as I'm aware, there's no way to get them cheaper as their price hasn't dropped and they've never gone on sale.

To be honest, I think this should do a lot to silence the anti-UN sentiments many people have.

mfw this one asshole was hiding somewhere as the last man standing and I couldn't find him because he was at the very top of the tower

It was fun indeed. Maybe I'll use a mic next time.

Favorite two moments were the second Zombie map we played (dark one with SMGs) where 3 humans were holed up in a small tunnel and I somehow found a back entrance to it and stabbed some crouching folks in the back for a triple kill. And the Jenga tower one, where I parkoured through a falling building, made it up a walkway, got pushed off by Psy in his plane (fuck you Psy) and then shot a hail mary plasma bolt straight up while falling which stunned and killed Psy.

Good games, although I'm not much of a fan of the slow gametypes.

Drinking age here is 16
lmao that's amazing

it sucks being an adult for two years and still having to get alcohol illegally
Yeah, it's 16 for light beers, 18 for anything past a certain % of alcohol and liquors. Never understood the point of the 21 drinking age in the US.

lol did they ID you?
Drinking age here is 16, so you have to look extremely young to be carded. They just had a booth set up down the first aisle and handed me a beer when I walked by, lol.

Quake Champions looks pretty good so far. Plenty of reports coming in from the closed showing that it's fast and plays a lot like Quake 3 / Live.

I never felt that Belgium was as much of a beer country as earlier today, when I walked into the supermarket downtown and was handed a free small glass of beer as a free sample. Usually, it's things like chips / cookies / lunch meat / fruit / cheese that you'll find around the store as samples to try, but today they were serving full on beer in the proper original glass to walk around the store with as you shopped for groceries.

The beer in question was Kwaremont. Pretty good, although rather bitter with a strong aftertaste.

Discuss the best free samples you've gotten or something.
